For centuries, the cork had to be removed in order to enjoy a glass of wine-that era is over. The Coravin System is a transformational new technology that allows users to pour wine whiling keeping the cork in the bottle, where it's been since it was first sealed in the winery. Now you can enjoy your favorite and finest wines by the glass whenever you like, and feel confident that your wine will be protected until the next glass is poured. Now you can share and enjoy the same bottle, or bottles on multiple occasions, over weeks, months, or even longer - without wasting a drop. How do we do it? When the Coravin System is put in place, a thin, hollow needle is inserted through the cork to extract the wine. The bottle is then pressurized with argon, an inert gas that's in the air we breathe. Once the bottle has been pressurized, the wine flows through the needle and pours into your glass. Once your wine is poured, the needle is removed, and the cork reseals itself. The Coravin System will work best with natural cork closures, including closures made of agglomerated or multi-piece natural cork. It is not intended for use on synthetic closures since they are unlikely to re-seal completely. If you do use the system with a synthetic closure, store the bottle upright afterwards. Synthetic closures will permit some oxidation, and may result in leakage when stored or poured. The Coravin 1000 System cannot be used with metal, glass or screw top closures.

First bottle we used it in went bad almost immediately. Laid bottle on its side and it leaked into our refrigerator. The "tiny" hole it pokes isn't so tiny, and the cork is left porous.

very costly malfunctioning

i bought this product one year ago and initially was very impressed. within a month i discovered that the argon containers were not working consistently. sometimes they petered out after two or three jets of argon and sometime nothing came out. it did work more times than not but i was using a lot of containers for little benefit. now it is just not functioning. the container for the argon will not screw in properly but go in just enough to have the gas released outside the bottle. given the cost of the containers this is totally unacceptable. i am about to see if thewarranty will be honored.

This product is difficult both to assemble properly and use effectively. The capsules are expensive and last for 1-2 uses.

Stop the price Gouging!

System itself is fantastic, easy to use, compact and portable, it will change the way you drink wine!! Downside...A clear cut price gouging scheme when it comes to replacement Argon cartridges. Coravin cartridges have an exclusive fitting that no other cartridges have so they will not fit the unit. They're then charging more than TRIPLE what the other Wine preservation manufacturers are charging for essentially the same thing. 2 Coravin cartridges= $25 after shipping or $12.50 per cartridge (almost $1 per 5oz. pour). Other manufacturers come in around $3-4 per cartridge after shipping. C'mon Coravin, that's just dishonest, you're already making your $$ up front with the astronomical price of the unit itself, regarding the cartridges it's just greedy. A disappointing tarnish on an otherwise fantastic product.

I use this more often than I thought I would. I travel a lot & like to have a nice glass of wine before my trip, but don't want to have the whole bottle. Use Coravin, and it is waiting for me when I return. Longest I have kept a bottle was 3 months, will try more as this worked well. Fantastic tool to taste different years next to each other. Wouldn't be without one! Will order one for my island home as well.
