This is a great idea but very poor design
by Choddie (1 out of 5 stars)

This is a great idea but very poor design. The headrest does a good job in allowing kids to fall asleep in the car without falling over or banging their heads on the car door window. However, there is an extremely high chance of the product failing at the elbow joint where the wings attach to the back bracket. The elbow is held together with nothing more than friction of a metal pin in a hollow molded plastic cylinder. After some use, the metal pin can either lose friction with the mold and keep sliding out or the plastic cylinder can break off all together. I have used 2 of these over time and both failed for the same reason. I am not an expert, but for $50, this is a poorly made especially at the point that takes the most stress when in use.

The idea is perfect but the lateral headrest are too far from one each other.

They should be more close

Nice headrest
by TheUnscented (4 out of 5 stars)

Works well, really difficult to put on some seats. It's a high quality piece and works well once in place. We rented a minivan for a long family vacation. (Chrysler tonn-n-country) . The threaded shafts for the hooks are maybe 3mm too short, it was extremely frustrating to put on. When I installed it in my Pathfinder, a bit easier but it's not made to be easily installed and removed. So if you do any hauling in your SUV, where you need to fold the seats down, it's a hassle.

As far as functionality for the headrest itself, five stars. My five year old really likes it for long trips. If they could only make a quick-release one....

Teens love it

I bought the Cardiff Headrest for my then 12 year old daughter, who was in just a seatbelt, being too big for a booster. She is now 13 (almost 14) and still uses the headrest for any trip over 30 minutes. We drive a lot, due to the distance from music lessons and other things. I paid $50 for this headrest, which was a lot, but I can say it was worth it. My daughter stays in place when asleep. Her younger brother is now out of a booster and uses one of her wings to keep him in place when asleep. It took me a little while and a phone call to Cardiff to get the headrest put together and installed, but it's been holding its place well. I often have to fold down the back bench of my minivan and simply remove the headrest with the Cardiff headrest attached, so that I don't need to reinstall it again. I have not had to adjust it in over a year.

Horrible Design
by KM (1 out of 5 stars)

This item does not fit our cars (subaru legacy and outback) and took FOREVER to set up. It seems like if it had fit, it would be a major safety issue, as the metal is hard and if there was an accident, it seems that the child's head would slam into a hard metal bar. The headrest is a good concept, but this product is poorly designed and I do not recommend it. My will be sent back ASAP.

Disappointed
by Kboeds (2 out of 5 stars)

Purchased this for a long road trip so that my 7 year old grand daughter would have a place to rest her head while sleeping. She was sitting in the middle of the back seat. I did not have the difficulty installing that some have mentioned. It was very easy to put together if you follow the directions. I do feel however that some of the materials used for this product feel cheap and the moving parts seem very fragile.

In the end, we found that once the child relaxes while sleeping this product becomes useless. Clearly the children in the photos provided by the seller are not actually sleeping. NOTE: My grand daughter is of average size for a 7 year old and was sitting in a booster seat.

I am giving this product 2 stars because although this is a good idea this product didn't make the cut. The product is also way to expensive for the way it is made.

Our 6 year old loves it. Works as advertised and is easy to install and operate
by Jason Viana (5 out of 5 stars)

We purchased this for our 6 year old in preparation for a 10 day road trip where we hoped he would be able to sleep more comfortably. I installed the device before our trip to see what he thought and it has been an unquestioned hit! He loves it and uses it often. He generally does not sleep in the car, but since the addition of the headrest he has slept on multiple occasions, and thankfully slept well on our trip out west.

Installation was simple and should work on any vehicle with a headrest that raises to expose the two metal poles. Took less than five minutes and I could easily move it between cars just as quickly. The device is well made and has held up to frequent use over the last six weeks. Lowering the headrests is simple as well, and my 6 year old figured it out on the first try. He easily raises and lowers it when he chooses to.

It is important to have reasonable expectations though, this device does not cradle your kids head, it provides support. We brought a blanket that he placed between his head and the headrest for additional support and it helped make it even more comfortable.

could be better

I replaced my son's bulky car seat with a backless booster seat for versatility. But naptime became compromised with the absence of head support. This is a wonderful complement to a backless booster seat. I read in one review that you cannot install it if you have a non-removable headrest. You can as long as the bars of your headrest are straight. In my case, it's too slanted so the little hooks doesn't reach out to attach through. No big deal. I just resorted to using wire velcro. I have a low head clearance compact SUV so it voided the swing back action of one arm. Still, not a big deal for me. I really don't need that swing back action and I just keep the arms down. But I wish the arms were adjustable. They seem too far apart and the padding was thin, not enough for cushion. To resolve that, I attached those seatbelt pillows to the arms to keep my son's head steadily supported. So far it does the trick. He now sleeps comfortably and longer. But I think I paid too much and adjusted a lot to make it work for me. So, I may be happy that it serves its purpose but I can only give it three stars.

Funcitonal but not great

The small hooks are a bit of a poor design but they work for now. I fear these will probably strip over time and make this product useless however, for now it is ok. At $50 I don't see the design quality other than in the ability to roll the pads up and down otherwise I would think $30 would be a much fairer price.

Easy to assemble
by Michael J Troutman (5 out of 5 stars)
August 6, 2016

Bought 2 sets for 2 cars that our 6yo tends to fall asleep in. Pretty easy to assemble and install. Took a little work to get the seat belt routed correctly, but no problem. Plenty of tension to hold her head up but doesn't get in the way.

Would like to see a quick release method as this took a while to install on my smaller vehicle. Fortunately we don't really have to move the booster often.
