Outstanding Product

Absolutely exceeds my expectations in every regard. The wood is very attractive and well finished. The structure is very firm ans sturdy. I sprayed an extra coat of clear enamel on the exposed surfaces and it came out looking like fine furniture. The capstone is the hardware. All the machine screws use nyloc nuts. This eliminates the problem of hardware coming unscrewed during repeated open and close cycles.

This is a well designed and built table.

Treat it nice and it will treat you nice.

I already have a plastic version of this same type of table, so I knew what this was all about.

Probably the most important thing to understand about this table (and similar tables made of plastic or aluminum) is that they are not as sturdy as solid wood picnic tables you find at campsites and picnic areas. Let's be fair. Solid wood picnic tables are great and almost indestructible. But they also don't fold up and they are really heavy.

I really like this table (and my plastic one), but there are some things to consider about using it. I am 6ft tall and about 185lbs. The seat it a little small for me, but I sit comfortably enough. Anyone over 6'2" is going to have more trouble with it. The seats are listed as able to support 220lbs. Products usually put this max weight figures low to give you some wiggle room to go over. With this table, I wouldn't push that upper limit, nor the table top limit of 110lbs.

I find it especially important to set these up on as level of a surface as you can, using extra care on grass. You also need to make sure that when you flip it over after unfolding it that you make sure the chair legs are in the proper position. Usually you have to slide them out a little as the weight of the seats when you flip it over causes the whole thing to flex inwards such that the legs from the seats on opposite sides of the table get too close to each other. I would say never sit in it until you have checked that it is set up on level ground and you've checked the chair legs. Once set up right, it's good to go.

Be careful getting in and out, especially if you're tall. The table is not very heavy, which is good for being portable, but that also makes it easier to tip over. Especially when you are getting out of the seats, your legs can hit the table top, and if no one else is seated, there isn't much weight to keep the table in place.

As far as the sturdiness of the table, try to keep the weight evenly distributed. For example, don't try putting a 5 gallon water bucket, or a fully stocked cooler on one side. That much weight, with no one sitting it the seats, will make it very top heavy and easier to tip over. The table supports are also towards the center, so too much weight on the outer edges will cause it to flex and lean. Similarly, don't lean your elbows on the table too much. Didn't mom tell you that is bad manners, anyways?

Just like not putting a stocked cooler on top of the table, I also would not recommend putting a camp stove or grill on the table. The wood might be able to handle the heat better than plastic (although I have seen my fair shair of scorched campsite picnic tables, too). But, I would be too worried about the table getting knocked over with the stove on.

More about this wooden table itself. The wood is solid, not plywood. It's obviously a cheaper wood, not oak, cedar or teak. It has a smooth finish coating. most of the edges are rounded. A couple of corners are a little pointy, but a quick hit with sandpaper will smooth that out. I didn't look closely enough at the photos, but the top and the seats are slats and spaced about 1/8" apart. The plastic version of this table has a solid table top surface (the seats were a simulated woven pattern which completely failed and I "fixed up" by replacing with thin plywood).

I like these tables a lot. I just think it's important to keep in mind what it is and what it is not. Would it be good for you and your college buddies to take out for a booze fest in the woods? Not really. Is it good for a decent place to sit when car camping with the family? Sure, just follow my advice above. My kids love using this table.

Looks and smells so nice!

I was pleasantly surprised by what we got for fifty bucks. Came out of the box smelling like freshly cut pine. All the joints and supports are in good shape. All edges and corners-clean and aligned perfectly.

Its not a $250 or $1000 table-quality but the quality is definitely there, and very much a bargain for the price. It looks like something you would get at a indie shop in Portland. It should provide years of use as long as it's not abused. I really questioned whether adults would be comfortable using this smallish table as I got it for camping. Sitting down on it, I found it very useable-but I am also a person of average height and weight. If you are a group of four, 6'5" 250lb humans, you may find this table too small and uncomfortable. I can imagine 4 drunks guys of this stature even falling over and accidentally breaking a table like this if they weren't careful. Saying that, I wouldn't call this table fragile. I think the table itself could easily support 50lb or more-plenty enough for plates of food or crafts. Overall I'm very pleased at it's cuteness and portability.

A MUST to keep littles happy at the ballfield

We're a baseball family. My son has 3 younger sister who come to his games. Why do we need a portable picnic table? Bring a chair or a blanket you may think. We'll we've done that for the last 7 years. They never stay in the chairs and the umbrella messes up the blanket and someone ends up with dirt all over them (heaven forbid, I know) or eaten by ants. The picnic table is clutch! We had a tourney this past weekend. 2 days of baseball, 4 games later and they used electronics for a total of 30 min! They colored and crafted! Whoop. Ok, so the table, be careful setting it up because it can wobble. Make sure everything is clicked in place before sitting on it. The wood itself is soft. It will scratch easily. The 5' Ultimate Wondershade umbrella (not using the stand) works fine with this table if you don't use the plastic piece that goes in the hole. I weigh close to 180 lbs and sat in it. I didn't feel like it would break. I did ease myself in and out. Folds up nice, I stand it up in our utility wagon and it doesn't take up much room. People would come over to check out our setup. This was by FAR our BEST weekend of baseball as spectators!

Decent value folding table.

I purchased this for our kids to use while we travel on vacation and for that purpose it has worked just fine. It is not the sturdiest table nor is it the most elegant, but it works and it sets up / takes down quickly and fairly easily, and it is nicely compact when folded. Be careful with the plastic bits and slides when opening or closing! Do not force the plastic, just be patient and it will work and things won't break. I could wish for higher quality materials... but then it would cost 5x as much. So for value, I'm happy and the table is still working fine.

Capacity is good for small kids. Adults can sit too, but be cautious.

Cool concept... thats where it ends.

So, this is best suited for a kids table for play, but even then it's a little sketchy. I was OBSESSED with the concept and for the price I said, let's give it a shot. I gave it an extra star for how hard my husband and I laughed when we set it up and tried to sit on it. Its VERY shakey, the seats are VERY small, and the places it held together is very scary looking. I would save your money. However, the return was very easy.

I love this table! it is exactly like one i grew up camping wth just with wood instead! it is a perfect table for out and about i understand some of the concerns about it being wobbly however what do you expect? you shouldn't be wiggling around too much when your sitting but the table ca still handle it.. we had 4 grown adults sit at this table and none of us had any problems or concerns

Wonderful picnic table!
by Elaine May (5 out of 5 stars)

I would not say this is exactly "lightweight", but it is not overly "heavy". I can hoss it around with the handle pretty well (I'm over 70 and 5'2"). I LOVE the sturdiness of it. We take it for picnics and have found that the "wood" feature of ours over shadows the "plastic" one we used to have. Parts seem sturdier, too. Its fun and easy to take with us in the car and have gotten LOTS of questions and positive comments on it when we've been out.
