Defective Part and worst customer support
by Malathi Ramakrishnan (1 out of 5 stars)
April 28, 2018

Probably the worst customer service I have seen in my entire life. The first call was answered after 30 mins wait time and the agent disconnected in 2 mins after getting my details and asking for the product manual.

The second call was answered after ~ 40 minutes wait time and she was so rude.

The product I bought is a brand new one and just assembling it. One of the part is defective. Today is 04/28 and the Agent said the product can be shipped only in 10 business days after 05/02. Effectively I am being asked to wait for 3 weeks. When I said I need to speak to the supervisor, she disconnected the phone.

The product being defective is not a customer's problem and Greenworks should own that. My whole afternoon got spoiled waiting in phone for more than 90 minutes and an arrogant attitude shown by Support team.

If I am not going to get any response, I would never ever buy any Greenworks product and recommend the same to all my friends.

The cut quality is great. 2

I was a bit skeptical at battery powered mowers so I took some time and did a lot of research over this last winter before purchasing this, and notifying my yard guys I no longer needed them. I have now mowed 5 times this season (2018) and so far my expectations were exceeded .....by a LOT (I don't say that often ;). I don't have large yards, front or back, and don't even come close to using up all of the batteries, even with mowing, trimming, and blower all with the same battery. I alternate between batteries each mowing to keep them 'moving'. (I know, too many () and ,)

Summary:
1. The cut quality is great.
2. The mower is super light.
3. It's quieter than my vacuum cleaner.
4. The batteries charge quickly.
5. No gas to purchase.
6. No oil maintenance.

I should have done this years ago.

Great mower, versatile battery system, great service
by Julie Thomas (5 out of 5 stars)

This is a great mower! It's powerful enough to get through my rather thick grass even when I've let it get taller than I should. I LOVE having a quiet, efficient, easy to use mower that doesn't belch smoke or required me to buy gas! The two battery system is great - I can do both my front and back yard twice before both batteries are exhausted. They charge quickly. Plus, the batteries can be used in other GreenWorks devices, which is super convenient and avoids buying more batteries.

I did have a problem with one of the batteries a few weeks after I got it, after having used it a few times. But I called customer service, on a Sunday even, and they sent me a new one, no problem. I saw some bad reviews of their service, but they were great for me.

Excellent mower as long as you aren't lazy
by A. Schuett (5 out of 5 stars)
April 20, 2014

NOTE: This is for the 20" mower only! Apparently Amazon merged several mower sizes into this one product.

My wife and I wanted a mower that wasn't as loud and noisy as a gas mower, didn't require burning oil, and didn't vibrate as much. This mower fulfilled all of our wishes. We have a 1/3 acre lot, and this mower with two batteries works just fine. The only time we need to recharge the batteries half way through mowing is when we wait way too long between mowings, and the motors need to do some extra work to chop down the tall weeds. This mower is fairly easy to push, since it is much lighter weight than a gas mower. We also bought the electric trimmer that uses the same battery system, so we were sure to buy that kit with an extra charger and battery. Sometimes we use the extra battery, but it is nice to have just in case. Overall, I would buy this again and am quite satisfied.

Update 5/17/2014-

Still using this mower all the time, and it still works great. I've taken to only using one battery at a time, and keeping the other on the charger while mowing. Not sure it makes a difference, but I like it anyway to take a little break while mowing to switch batteries. When done mowing, I do tip the mower on its side and clean the underside. Some more expensive mowers have a water hose attachment to clean the underside, but I'm not sure I would spray water into the motor on this unit. :-) Using a stick works just as well, and seems to keep things working better.

Update 9/25/2014-

So, I may have let the lawn go a little. I ignored the grass for a few weeks thanks to overtime at work, family matters, and just generally being lazy when I got home. The grass in the back yard made it up to a good 8-10" tall. I thought for sure I would need a gas mower to power through that. Sure enough, my battery powered greed thing powered through it. Sure, I had to empty the silly bag way more often than I wanted (I never mulch), but the mower never stopped mowing because it was too thick. I'm still impressed, and still happy. Only thing I'm looking for is a grinder to sharpen the blades. Apparently a set of two replacement blades cost less than a "jackson" on Amazon with Prime shipping. I've found if I wait until the afternoon to mow when the grass is more dry, there is no need to clean the underside of the mower. Still 100% satisfied with this device, and 100% recommended.

Pros and cons.. but the biggest con may be a deal breaker
by Rob in Maryland (3 out of 5 stars)
June 14, 2016

I really want to love this lawn mower. I hate dealing with gasoline around the house, and I'd like to switch anything that uses gas over to electric whenever possible. The run time is pretty good. It's pretty quiet, certainly don't need ear protection with it. The lack of self propelling isn't a big deal as it's very lightweight. It just doesn't cut the grass very well -- You go over a stripe of grass, turn around and there's a little mohawk of grass in the middle of the stripe you just mowed I'm guessing where the two blades don't come together closely enough or overlap. I'm going to keep working with it, but after two mowing sessions, I'm not loving it so far...

4 Months of Use - Subpar
by Maria Dziedzic (1 out of 5 stars)
September 14, 2017

I have been using this mower all summer, and while I was pleased at first, I am less than impressed now.

Pros
-Battery life is still rock solid, I have an 120' x 60' lot and have never run out of power
-The start up is a snap, no more gas fumes!
-Bagging is easy
-It's lightweight and easy to manuever
-Height adjustment is easy

Cons
-Severe lack of power. I have sharpened the blades, but the mower tends to push the grass just as much as it cuts the grass.
-The mower's ability to adjust the power on the fly, so as to give more juice when in thicker areas, has ceased to function at all.
-Everything, except for the electronics, is made of plastic. So it flexes and squeeks when pushing at normal speeds.
-I have to mow most of my lawn twice. This was not the case earlier in the year when I bought it, but the motor seems to be losing power.

I was mostly satisfied (4 stars), with this product in early summer. But it is not working as described, after less than one mowing season, here in Michigan. Due to it not functioning properly or efficiently as described, I cannot recommend this product.

Major disappointment.

As I unpacked my new mower, the first thing I noticed was it's size. Compared to my old electric mower which has the same sized cut, it's gigantic. Fully 3 inches wider and at a hefty 62 pounds, but I figured I would not be picking it up very often, after all, just pushing it. I charged up the battery and installed it, thereby noticing the first design flaw. The battery compartment not only has a spring loaded plastic cover on it, necessitating a two-handed operation to insert the battery, but the battery terminals are on the top of the compartment rather than the bottom, causing it to be more difficult to slide it in and engage them. They also snap in. More on that in a minute. As I took off to mow, I ran across the second design flaw. The starter button is a good foot away from the bar you have to depress to make it go, which means starting it up is also a two-handed operation. My old mower only requires one hand to get it going, as the starter button is up near the bar you need to depress. Not that big a deal so far. As I approached the end of the first run, and came up upon a block wall, I discovered that due to the twin blades, with one behind the other, this mower does not cut as close to the wall as it should. Okay, the nits are mounting up, but the thing plowed right through the thickest parts of the yard like nothing, so that was very nice. Nor did I notice the uncut portion between the blades that others have reported. It cut nicely, thoroughly, and quickly. My yard had been mowed only last week, so it was not exactly overgrown, but here in SoCal the rains we've had have been causing vegetation to go wild, so I've been trying to mow weekly to avoid the "forest" look. It was now that I noticed that the heavy weight of the mower made its presence known when I tried to turn it around or turn a corner. Much more difficult than it should be, I thought. But I went mowing merrily along until I just just past the 20-minute mark, when the mower suddenly stopped! The battery had run out of juice! Are you KIDDING ME? So in order to mow my yard.....well, let's face it, I really couldn't mow my yard with that kind of battery performance. Not even if it charged in an hour. It was when I went to remove the battery that I ran across yet another design flaw. The battery is held into the battery compartment with a stiff retainer, so it pretty much takes two hands to remove the battery from the mower. The only problem is, with the spring loaded plastic battery cover to contend with also, I found myself a hand short. Terrible design. My old mower, which uses a 24-volt lead acid battery is designed so that you just walk up to the mower, reach down and pull the battery out by the handle. After charging, you just pick it up by the handle again, and drop it right back in Easy Peasy. In fact, this mower made me fall in love with my old mower SO much that I packed it up, sent it back, and spent $77 for a second battery for my old one. I'm good to go now. But my advice is, in case you have not picked up on it, is don't waste your money on this thing.

Going Green! 40V Twin Force 20-Inch Mower, 390CFM Cordless Blower, and 13-Inch Cordless String trimm
by Gordon Isherwood (5 out of 5 stars)
September 23, 2017

Going Green! 40V Twin Force 20-Inch Mower, 390CFM Cordless Blower, and 13-Inch Cordless String trimmer.

I have to say I was skeptical when I decided to purchase these GreenWorks tools. However, I have to say I am very happy with my purchases and very impressed with the quality of the equipment. All three pieces of equipment were very easy to assemble; I did not need to use the instructions that came with the equipment. There are some things to understand about these three pieces of equipment. Compared to gas powered equipment mower, blower, trimmer are all very very light. The lack of significant weight can be misleading and interpreted as a lack of power, however, this is untrue as all three pieces of equipment perform just as well as any gas-powered equipment that I have used.

Pros and cons

The pros to all three pieces of equipment do not very significantly. All three pieces of equipment are light, easy to maneuver, and appear to be very sturdy. The mower mulches grass significantly better than most of the gas-powered mowers I have used. I noticed a significant reduction in loose grass that was clumped and blown all over the sidewalk and driveway. One feature I particularly liked was the ability to start and stop almost instantly. This came in handy especially with the blower when needing to change direction. Finally, one of the pros is that the equipment is less intimidating than gas powered equipment. My wife ran the mower and the blower with ease considering this was the first time she ever cut grass. My mother came with two batteries and a charger while the blower came with one battery and one charger. This combination gave me one four-amp battery and two two-amp batteries. I have a small yard but the four-amp battery and one two-amp battery was more than enough to cut my grass, in fact the four-amp battery was completely used and the two-amp battery only used one green dot. The trimmer is as nice as any gas-powered trimmer I have owned. I especially like the edging feature, which works very nice.

I cannot find too many cons to any of the equipment. Certainly, it takes time to learn how to work with new equipment however, none of the GreenWorks equipment appears to be overly complicated. I did read some negative reviews of the string trimmer. Understanding that you have to release the throttle and wait for the spool to click which indicates an advancement of the line is a key to understanding how to operate the trimmer. I find the included trimmer line is somewhat light and I will change it out once I use it all.

Recommendation

I would recommend this equipment anybody who desires equipment that is easier to work with and wants to move away from using gasoline. I would eventually like to try the snow blower especially here in Pennsylvania during one of our typical winters. In closing I will say this if you are on the fence go ahead and go green you will not be sorry.

Love it more and more

We bought this mower last season and were happy it with it right away...but I decided to wait a bit before posting a review. We have a 1/3 acre property, mostly flat with a few small to moderate hills. Our grass is not usually particualrly thick or lush. Both my wife and I enjoy being active, so pushing a non-self-propelled mower is no problem. This does a great job cutting evenly and mulching finely. It's quiet, starts with a push of a button. We got the two batteries, one larger and one smaller, and that works very well for us. Typically, I can cut either the front or the back with just the larger battery. Although you can put both batteries into the mower at once, I tend to just use one, and then if it runs out, I can pop it in the charger and let it charge while I use the other. This AM, our grass was unusually thick and lush, and I wanted to get it cut even though it was still wet. The big battery did ~90% of the back before pooping it, so I just switched to the smaller one and finished. I was concerned with batteries not holding charge, but after a year, this does not seem to be a problem. I was not very good about charging the batteries over the winter, but they still seem fine. The mower has held up well, with no areas of concern so far. I also feel fine with gettting out there 9 AM,as it is considerably quieter than gas mowers - although there is still "moderate" engine noise - it's much less than a gas mower. I'm really happy with this mower!

Great mower, weak ability to vaccum.
by alfman3310 (4 out of 5 stars)
April 18, 2018

I have about 6000SQ Feet of lawn to mow. If I do not let it go too long, then I can complete the entire lawn on one charge. Having to empty the bag once or twice in between. I was very surprised by how good this mower is. First impression when I started it up was "uh oh". It is super quiet and sounds so weak and my grass was very tall. To my surprise it handled the job with ease. Never once did it fail or flutter.

My only complain is the desire for a stronger vaccum/sucking ability. When the lawn is not too bad it has no issues sucking up the clippings, when it is longer, you might have to go over the same spot again. The worst part is that it is not really strong enough to pull up leaves and other lawn debris like little twigs. My previous gas mower would eat anything you ran it over so that your lawn was spottless by the time you finished. It does an ok job pulling these things up, but my lawn tends to be partially littered with half clipped leaves and twigs after the cut.

All in all I recommend it for its intended purpose, mowing the lawn and grabbing lawn clippings. Just do not expect it to handle denser lawn clips like hedge trimmings, leaves, twigs etc.
