Best controller for Mainstage
by Vocalead (5 out of 5 stars)
December 7, 2018

This thing is awesome, just make sure you know what your buying.

I use this in conjunction with my Fishman TriplePlay and Mainstage and there's nothing better for it. All the controls are customizable, you can choose which message # you want to send, notes, CC or both at the same time. You can change the colors of the LEDs, and you can even choose one controller to be motion activated. To do all this however you have to make sure you get the right app as there's an editor that is only available for desktop computers.

Some research required to get the right apps as I found a lot of broken links when downloading the software, however it's not that big of a deal if you know what you're looking for (the desktop editor). Once you're up and running, it's a great piece of gear.

This is the best controller for Mainstage out there imho if you're a guitar player. A quick warning regarding the physical form though, it will fit your les paul or your variax JTV59, however not as flush as it's a bit small for it and you will see the plastic bending. The backside also holds the battery compartment which is not that comfortable on your body when using this guitars, I had to modify mine to make it fit perfectly, wasn't hard at all to do.

Thanks to guitar wing, I am able to play ...

Thanks to guitar wing, I am able to play shows with my tripleplay guitar synth wirelessly and rarely have to go to the pedal board.

I also had difficulty connecting w bluetooth but solved that by using their Mac app that also programs the buttons. It is becoming crucial to my show so I may buy a backup.

Not programable! Buttons are tough to press.

Really disapointed!

Buttons take a lot of pressure to activate. Sliders are OK.

You are stuck with what they think are important Midi CC numbers so you'll need a CC converter to make it useful for anything but their effect dll/app.

Doesn't connect easily to your DAW. Pads are not velocity sensitive
by Matty (1 out of 5 stars)

I got mine for Christmas from my girlfriend. We are professional musicians working for Disney Cruise lines. I produce on Ableton and since having the product I have managed to connect it successfully only a few times. I was so excited for this product to use during performances but I was let down hard and I'm really sad about that. Unless mine is a dud, I found the pads not sensitive at all and struggles to connect instantly. Having to open my DAW a number of times for it to register. Also it's not durable for traveling musicians, although I don't use it at all I take it everywhere just to promote its coolness and it's already coming apart.

Instructions and online documentation bring down what should a fun first day
by Commander Schlock (2 out of 5 stars)
December 18, 2016

I realize this is not exactly the kind of product for the faint of heart, but come on. I did not have the best time getting this thing to connect to my very new and up to date iMac. Online instructions and Livid's wiki are well below average - they look pretty with cool graphics, but not well thought out. There is apparently no thought to telling people a sequence of actions to follow and simultaneously providing clear links to apps/downloads required. Where they do provide instructions seemed to suggest it was so easy and simple, but not a shred of troubleshooting tips. The result of following supposedly easy peasy set of instructions left me unable to connect. The USB receiver connection is still no go for me, but I am able to connect via Bluetooth. Figuring that out was pure luck. Or is that what I was supposed to do all along? Did I miss some essential detail in my 4-5 retries? Who knows.

After all that fun (trust me this would ruin a Christmas morning) I have it working with their app LividWingFX (yawn), Guitar Rig and Ableton, but there is no shortage of complaints on their lack of support for Ableton 9.7 (and more). Am I missing something really cool, or should I be happy I can use Ableton learn to manually assign this thing to effects parameters and more? In actual use, I'm not sure I like the huge 4 buttons being momentary only. Seems like a waste. Can't see the sliders too well when playing and they don't seem to consistently react to my slightly chubby finger tips. One quibble - if you want this to fit on a Les Paul kiss your pick guard goodbye.

Livid needs to hire someone (qualified) to really organize their online documentation. It is 2016 and everybody is selling more than apps and hardware, they are selling the "User Experience." This was not a good one to start. People should have a nice clear set of actions to follow to get up and running. Gee whiz, how about actually numbering steps!!! What a concept. Next how about troubleshooting steps for each step instead of having to dig into the morass of their wiki for troubleshooting information?

Before all the whiners and haters jump on me, I don't rant about this kind of thing unless I think it is constructive. Livid has something really neat and fun. I think we all expect a wireless MIDI controller to be challenging and a bit more complex to set up than a printer, but a great and innovative product should never be impacted by a bad website (unless it is open source, then we expect that).

Arrived quickly with everything to get started. Had to download some software etc. from the Livid site, but I got it working on a MacBook Pro with the standalone Wing FX program and with Ableton Live :)

Very cool wireless controller at a good price. Except for the ACPAD for acoustic guitars, there's nothing else really like this. Only minor criticism is I wish the pressure sensitive pads were a little more responsive. Overall everything works great, but makes playing dynamic drums a challenging.
