and I love that I can track multiple meats at once
by Dave in Vegas (5 out of 5 stars)

I had a single version of this for a few years, but needed more now that I have a smoker. This one works just as well as the single unit, and I love that I can track multiple meats at once, both on the LED display on the unit, and through the app on my phone. With the single unit I already owned I can now track three cuts of meat (yes, I am a carnivore) at once, on multiple grills / smokers or multiple sections of the same large cut. I sometimes use one probe to monitor the ambient temperature of the grill to be sure I am on track. I don't trust the cheap bi-metal thermometers that come in most grills.

The unit is a good size, easy to handle and easy to use. Pairing is simple with the smart Bluetooth setup. The magnet on the base of the unit is great for placing it wherever I need to, and the range is plenty for grilling outside in winter while I stay cozy indoors and monitor the action on my phone.

I did have a problem with one probe showing inaccurate temps, but Weber, the new owner of iDevices, sent me a replacement right away after a little troubleshooting. They have upgraded the probes to a more durable design, which is great.

DO NOT BUY - Does not work as advertised.
by Erik Neu (1 out of 5 stars)

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. It used to be great, until iDevices sold the product line to Weber. Weber discontinued the old app, and their app doesn't work. You must have the app actively open in order for any alarm to sound, and that defeats the purpose. The audible alarm from the unit itself is useless soft, which has always been the case but now it's a particular problem. We have now ruined so much food that we had to go out and buy a regular $20 probe thermometer, which is a shame, because we used to love this.

Their customer service promised a possible correction to the app in the future. Let's face it. They make grills, not software. My hopes are not high given their tepid response.

Great Product You'll Want to Use Repeatedly (with minor inconveniences)
by David (4 out of 5 stars)
February 5, 2015

I very rarely write reviews, but I've enjoyed and appreciated this product so much that I wanted to add my two cents. Overall, it's an excellent idea for a product, well-executed, a product that I find makes me want to use it more, with a few minor inconveniences.

In terms of what it's supposed to do, tell you the temperature, I've found that it did it's job and is accurate. Also, having the combination of the temperature on a large display on the unit and on my phone made it extremely easy to keep track of the temperature. Having used it in multiple situations (one probe, two probes in the same food item, two probes going into different food items) I found it worked perfectly every time. Since my oven can be temperamental about having an accurate temperature, having something I can literally set and walk away from is extremely helpful.

I have a few minor quibbles with it that reflect including what other people have said about it. I found the Bluetooth connection to disconnect sooner than what is advertised. Granted, this could be my home and any interference in the home, but it appears to be less than advertised. If you're like me, you don't wonder too far from the kitchen when cooking so it's Bluetooth range is far from a deal breaker for me. Second, syncing my phone (or my wife's phone) with the thermometer seems to either take a long time and/or multiple attempts. When my wife went to use it for the first time, it took multiple attempts. For me, the app recognizes the thermometer immediately but seems to take a long time to sync (more than a minute).

Lastly, this is a very expensive thermometer when you compare it to a traditional food thermometer. You can pick a food thermometer for low price, so this kind of purchase might seem spendy. I purposely waited for the price to drop before I purchased it (~$55), and even then I wonder if I was spending too much money. But, the convenience of it, especially if you are cooking multiple things at the same time allows you to focus other things while your food cooks. I find that I use this thermometer repeatedly and more than my traditional food thermometer because of how useful it has been. For me, that made any issue with the price disappear.

Paid for two probes, but only one works
by WrkngGal (1 out of 5 stars)

If I could give zero starts I would. This thermometer worked great...until it didn't. One probe still functions, but the second probe reads ridiculous temperatures - e.g., 105 degrees for room temperature (when the first probe reads -- correctly -- a comfortable 70 degrees). We've switched out the two thermometers and the base is not the problem - it appears to be the second probe. This is my second iDevices thermometer, and I was so hopeful that this one was going to be better than the last. It's a great concept, but the quality just isn't there. At this point, I'm just waiting for the first probe to fail.

If You've Got a Phone Give it a Go
by Jesse (5 out of 5 stars)

Bought one of these when it was on-sale after seeing a posting on a blog I frequent. I hadn't heard of the device prior to reading the article but it seemed like a cool idea and worth the sale price so I gave it a shot.

It works great and is easy to use. I downloaded the app for my iPhone which allows me to set food temp and walk away without having to set timers or cut into the food to check if it's "done". The thermometer can be used without the app if you want but putting it in a place you can see it (there are magnets in the base you can use to stick it on your oven.

I've found myself using this on pretty much everything when we first got it but after a few weeks the novelty wore off and now I just break it out when I'm looking to get the perfect cook on things like steak. That's not a knock on the thermometer itself it's just another step to set it up and clean it and I find I don't need it for simple recipes I've cooked 100 times over.

Overall if you have a smartphone that its compatible with I'd say it's a worthy purchase. I probably wouldn't buy one if you aren't going to use the phone feature though.

My Advice on The iDevice
by Bbqsmoke (5 out of 5 stars)
May 26, 2016

I don't know why for years I have allowed myself to worry if the meat I am cooking is JUST RIGHT. You don't need a college degree to figure out if your food is cooked perfectly. Just an iDevice. I use to probe the meat several times upon the finishing cooking process which works, but you watch all the juices from the meat escape when you remove the probe. And it's always a guessing game as to when to start the other dishes you plan on serving with the meat. With this device, you gets results throughout the whole cooking period allowing better meal planning. The device works great and makes me a champion when cooking meats of all types.

temperature is wrong
by Kindle Customer (3 out of 5 stars)
September 2, 2018

This is a really nice device, was a little hard to figure out, but once I got the correct software, it connected to my phone and that made it easier to control and see the temperatures. Now that I have used it, I now have a problem with one of the probes. One probe reads 80 the other 135 and its only 80 in my house. Doesn't matter what port I plug the probes into the high temp follows the same probe.

Best Thermometer
by MJD (5 out of 5 stars)
January 2, 2017

This was the best thing we have ordered!!!!! :) We ordered this for Thanksgiving to do our turkey. Downloaded the app and we watch the temp on our phones. Once the turkey came to the right temp, an alarm went off on the phone. The plastic ones that are in the turkey don't worked and made our turkey dry. When the Idevice came to the right temp the plastic thing in the turkey didn't pop. The turkey was so moist. We just recently used it for our pork roast and turned out great. We will use this for all of our cooking for now on.

Overall I like it. I had one probe go bad in ...

Overall I like it. I had one probe go bad in like 4 days and they sent me a new one. Sometimes it won't reconnect with my phone and so I have to reset it during the cook (so far this hasn't cost me a destroyed brisket but it might one day). And I really wish it used wifi and not Bluetooth because my bedroom is at the peak of the 100 ft limit so it goes back and forth being connected on my overnight bbq cooks.

Android App Doesn't Work
by Tactibunny (2 out of 5 stars)

I can't find the Android app that works with this thermometer. There's an iDevices app in the Play Store, but it doesn't work with this thermometer.
