DO. IT.

I'm a tropical ecologist (in the making to be precise) and I've had a few awful experiences with bed bugs and I TAKE THEM VERY VERY VERY VERY SERIOUSLY. Don't mess around with bed bugs. They are incredibly hard and expensive to get rid of. Overall I've bought two ZappBug ovens (This large one and their smaller unit). I'm still waiting for my big one (more on that later). I've made my bosses buy two of these as well.I trust this company, and their products, 100%.
When I was working in Ethiopia the house I stayed at had them... and they followed me around for three months. I hand washed in scalding water everything I could. I wiped down EVERYTHING I OWNED with Ethanol- I mean every little bandage. The process was horrific, especially since I only had one day off a week. I would repeat the process, just in case I missed any, every other Sunday. When I got home I put everything inside my ZappBug RIGHT away. Forgot to even take out the deodorant- I didn't even care. I'm 100% sure that this is the reason why I didn't bring them into my home.
Now, whenever anyone in my team travels we come to the lab, take out our samples and Zapp everything. It's effective and so much cheaper than treating your whole house if you get infected. This unit also fits our largest bags and it's incredibly convenient. The smaller one doesn't fit a regular suitcase.
I've recently (a day ago) purchased my own home and imagine my HORROR upon discovering four, three-bite, clusters three days before closing. My worst effing nightmare, in my apartment (which I share with two other people), in the USA...Right before I moved into my home. I tried to have my unit from MA shipped to FL but it would have cost $100 dollars. So I splurged on this (buying a home is so expensive so it was truly a splurge). To be honest, though, it's so worth it. This company and their products have brought me, and my team members, so much peace and security. I know I will continue using it whenever I travel. I've given my little unit my sister and her husband who love traveling. Bed bugs are becoming an epidemic and this is your best preventive measure and will facilitate eradication.
I also use D-earth powder and rubbing alcohol to wipe down things I can't put in here like ink packages etc. I also use a combination of giant Ziplock bags (never travel without them!). If I have the bugs at home (or think I may) I also use construction grade garbage bags (which I put the ziplock inside of), as bed bugs can get through thinner plastic.

A lifesaver...

First I want to say that this was easy to set up. Took about 10 minutes. Second, it is even bigger than I expected - the size dimensions listed under technical details are (I believe) the dimensions of the packaging in which the oven was shipped - not the size of the oven once it is set up. I am including a picture of the oven with a 12-inch ruler sitting on the bottom left corner to give you an idea how big it is. I would say it is about three feet wide by three feet deep by three feet tall - plenty of room to treat most loose items in your home (including books). Third, the oven heated up quickly - on the first test run the internal temperature was already at 139 degrees within about 5 to 8 minutes. After about half an hour the oven was at 160 degrees (just to give you perspective, the manual indicates that when the temperature is at 115 degrees, it takes 7 minutes for bugs to die; at 160 degrees they won't even know what hit them). The directions indicate that a consistent internal temperature of at least 120 degrees for at least an hour is a sufficient amount of time to kill any bugs, nymphs, and eggs. Of course, the more items you treat, the longer you will have to run the oven because the heat has to permeate into the more insulated areas of the items you are treating. The oven came with two timer plugs (because there are two heating units) that automatically turn off the oven at the time interval that you set (half hour, 1 hour, 2 hour, 4 hour, or 8 hour). I am including a picture of the plug timer. I am convinced that this bad boy, along with treatment of my home by an exterminator, will help me to finally get rid of these Satan's Spawn pests.

UPDATE 1 year later... Still don't regret purchasing this oven - after enduring the nightmare of having to get rid of most of our furniture (beds, nightstands) and buying fold-up cots that we could regularly treat in the oven, we no longer have an infestation. In the last six months I have only found 3 bedbugs (which I promptly killed by spraying rubbing alcohol on them). We are able to sleep peacefully with no bites, and I have not seen any signs of further infestation (and believe me - I am constantly on the lookout for signs, as these cursed bugs have made me paranoid). If you have been suffering with these bugs for any amount of time, DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND BUY THIS OVEN! The peace of mind that you get is well worth the $350.

The instructions specify use of two circuits with at least 15 dedicated amps. The outlets cannot be more than 15 years old. I have to pay $1000 to have an electrician plug the thing in. People need to realize that this is an appliance with special needs.

Saved my sanity!

I read all the reviews before I bought this product. There are other products such as packtite that do the same thing and are twice as much money. Some of the reviews talked about a smell when you first start it, others that they thought it was a cheap knockoff. I can tell you that I bought this for a boarding home that housed 15+ people and had a pretty bad bedbug issue. We had hired a lot of exterminators, did whole house heat treatments and nothing seemed to really get rid of them for good. After about $20k worth of treatments and buying new furniture, mattresses, we finally had an exterminator tell us about this product. I was leery about it, but I think it has spoken for itself. This mean machine has been able to treat mounds of things that could never be fully treated before, such as TV's, Stereos, CPAP machines, book bags, Suitcases, paperwork, books. If you think that stuff is safe, think again. Bed bugs love to lay eggs in books. After having this machine for a couple of weeks, I can say I see a huge improvement.

When I first got the machine, I was leery. The machine itself looked as though someone had dragged it through gravel. It had places on the seam on the bottom that were ragged, which upset me. I just paid almost $400 for a machine that looked used. I was upset. I couldn't wait to get another one, so I went ahead and kept it. It works great. We normally get all out things up to about 147 degrees. Yes, it takes about 6 hours, but it is so worth it! I haven't used any of the other heaters, but I would recommend this one fully.

Their customer service is excellent. When I got my package I was missing the net that hooks on the inside. Called them and they had it to me in 2 days. I called later and asked if I could buy more support blacks for the inside of it. They didn't charge me for them. I just had to pay shipping. Because of all this I never mentioned the bags condition to them, and it hasn't effected the workings of it.

Also, some people mentioned it was hard to pout together or that the directions were confusing. I am not the cleverest person when it comes to building things and I can say with absolute confidence, I had no issues. Simple!

Easy hack for baking larger/taller items!!
by Swim Mom (5 out of 5 stars)
November 3, 2016

This oven has given me a sense of control and allowed me to feel 'safe' in my home again! Mostly now it's just being used to bake suitcases after travel, but in the heat of battle we used it for just about everything that fits in it and even for things that don't!

In particular we have several taller cat trees that I wanted to bake in case the cats had attracted any bugs that might be hiding in/under the carpet on them. The base of each of these cat trees fit in the oven but they stood 3-4 feet above it's top. My hack was to buy a package of those mylar 'blankets' that they give to runners at the end of marathons. I just draped the mylar sheets over the top of the cat tree and used about a dozen small binder clips to secure the mylar sheets to the top 'rim' of the oven (leaving the cover flap inside, but clipped back to keep it from blocking the heater vent) and a few more binder clips to secure the multiple mylar sheets to each other at the top and around the tree. It worked really well -- didn't even take any longer to get up to 120 degrees than a normal oven run with the lid zipped shut. Even though we haven't seen or been bitten by a bug in months now, I'm still baking the cat trees once every 7-10 days just in case there are some scattered holdouts that our cats might be feeding :)

Note: I was not at all worried about any potential bugs escaping the oven, I assume if they're in there they just hunker down and bake in place like a crab in a pot :)

Love this, and a few notes on setup.

This thing is way bigger than I thought - it would hold 2-3 of my largest suitcases. The unit worked great for me, with very little smell when I started it up. Set up was easier than I thought, but here are a few notes:

When you open the unit, it's L shaped. You have to reach in and pull the other two sides out so it makes an enclosed cube, which unzips at the top. (I unzipped it first; I don't think it makes a difference.)

The ventilation tube where the heater goes is pretty stiff. Stretch it out a few times and it'll be easier to fit around the heater.

The heater is ON as soon as it's plugged in, so don't plug it in until you're ready. As for the noise, I have house fans that are way, way noisier than these. The two knobs on the top are for decoration only. There's a little white or black plastic piece that looks like a suction cup on the bottom of the heater and THAT'S the tip-over switch. The weight of the heater presses it in so the heater stays on. The stiff ventilation tube was raising the heater, so I had to put a 1-2" book under each of the heaters (not under the ventilation tube) so it didn't keep turning off.

The two white plug-in units/timers can go into the wall or between the heater and the extension cord, according to my call to ZapBug. There are On & Off buttons on it - when you press On repeatedly, a little light rotates through the timer options: 0.5, 1, 2, 4, and 8 hours.

When the batteries are put in the base station, a clock starting at 12:00 am appears at the top of it - so you can keep track of how long the oven has been on.

The Customer Service info is clearly marked on the back of the instruction booklet.

Peace of Mind!

Purchased for extra assurance against bed bugs. Found bed bugs in the couch of a vacation home we rented. Fortunately, we discovered them the first night we were there. We immediately packed up and left the home. When we arrived to our home we unloaded everything onto a table in our garage to protect against any possible hitch hikers and ordered the ZappBug Oven from Amazon. The product was received in 2 days. We immediately unpacked and set the oven up. The oven is easy to set up as the oven compartment unfolds on its own. It comes with 2 heaters and some support blocks for the bottom of the oven. It is quite large and easily able to accommodate a large suitcase. The included temperature gauge lets you know when the items in the oven have reached the right temperature to kill bugs. We left most loads in for about 2 hours and reached temperatures somewhere around 145 degrees. We were able to put all belongings including backpacks, books and shoes without any problems. Although the manufacturers says you may be able to place electronics in the oven we did not for fear of damage. Overall it is well worth the money.

Travel for work? Stay in hotels regularly? You need this!
by OtisPaul (5 out of 5 stars)

If you travel and stay at hotels, this is perfect to ensure you don't infest your house with bed bugs. Two months ago we found out we had bed bugs. Since my job has me staying at different hotels each week, it seemed inevitable that one day I would bring some home. Now, whenever I get home, I place my bag in the compartment, turn it on and within hours my bag and contents are thermally treated. You could use your clothes dryer but have you tried placing a suitcase in it?

Best decision for peace of mind. And my wife lets me stay at home now (kidding)..

I do not work for this company and am in no way compensated by anyone for my review. just fyi.

Not reaching out 120 degrees even after 14 hours
by omid sassani (1 out of 5 stars)
July 23, 2018

Ok. It took 14 hours to reach 109 degrees. Are you serious? Do you know how much I have to pay for electricity bill just to watch your piece of trash fails reaching 120?

Why do you insist on putting the wireless temperature sensore in deepest coolest part between the cloths, when you know your weak heaters are not gonna make it to 120?

I followed all instructions on how to prepare room and areange clothes inside it. It just fails after 14 hours

Easy to use and arrived quickly.

For the first time ever, discovered a few bites after a recent trip. Immediately encased mattress, box springs and pillows, caulked around baseboards, did a perimeter around the room and around all furniture legs of diatamaceous earth, and ran all clothing through the dryer on high heat. Got one of these heaters to run shoes and other non-dryer items through. Also will proactively put suitcase, purse, coats through upon arrival home from any trips in the future. Really hope that I've nipped the problem in the bud but will now be extra vigilant.
