I liked the build quality a lot
by KyllerCG (3 out of 5 stars)

I bought this item to use with my Olympus OM-D E-M5 II.

I liked the build quality a lot. Before purchasing it I was worried that the anchor link was not same enough. But it looks very solid and it does not appear that it will detach very easily. I like that a lot.

The clutch is very easy to attach to the camera. At first I started playing a bit to see how safe it feels in my hand. I didn't feel very safe at the beginning, but I supposed I didn't had enough time to get used to it. I don't think that the camera will fall from may hand very easily.

My problems started when I decided to click. That is impossible with my camera. The problem is that on my e-m5 (and I think this true for most mirrorless or smaller cameras) the place were you attach the straps on the camera is to near the shutter button. So, basically, there is no way to use this clutch and shot using your index finger.

Take a look at the top view of that camera and you will understand what I mean. There is no way that my finger will be able to click the shutter button. Unless I use my thumb, which is very weird (IMHO).

However, I'm quite sure it is a great product to use with a bigger DSLR camera.

I'm giving 3 star only because Peak Design doesn't says clearly on the product description that it may not fit well on smaller mirrorless cameras.

It works but it should be half the price.

For the most part, this hand strap works quite well. I have rather large hands and this does fit me (Granted, almost completely drawn out). But this should work for most people, small to large. The strap functions as you'd expect. It's easy to install and once it's on, easy to take off if needed.

I've used it quite a bit over the last 3 weeks and haven't had any issues with the strap. I was using this with my D500, with the MDB17 Grip, and an L bracket with some heavy glass. 85 1.4's, 70 - 200's. I didn't have any issues and I didn't feel like the strap couldn't hold that weight. I even used it with my Sigma 150 - 600 Sport lens (2860g/ 100.9oz/6.3lbs), while I wouldn't recommend it for extended periods of time, and I definitely wouldn't put ALL that weight on the strap, it did hold up.

My only problem with this is that this feels like something that should be $20 - Not $40. The quality of the materials just isn't there (At the $40 price point). The strap your hand is up against is extremely cheap and isn't something you can tell by looking at it. Once you get it, you'll probably be disappointed. The little metal clasp that holds the strap to tighten/loosen also feels extremely cheap.

If this was $20 then it would be amazing and this wouldn't be an issue because this strap FEELS like a $20 product (Seriously, compare it to other $20 hand straps - It's about the same; sometimes worse). But for $40 it seems like a pretty big rip off to be quite honest.

But with that said, it does work. It's just not worth $40.

The day this arrived it was installed on a full frame Nikon DSLR with large /2.8 lens and I went to photograph election marches for two days back to back in the rain. Though the camera was wet and I was jostled as I moved through thousands of people marching through the city streets the camera remained securely held. It was easy to get my hand in and out using bare hand and also while wearing a thin glove liner. Some people have commented that the strap is uncomfortable but I found it quite comfortable to wear for many hours in cold, wet weather.

This wrist strap is used in conjunction with Capture Pro clip. Occasionally it seemed the oval plastic piece on on the bottom of the wrist strap interferes with inserting the mounting plate Capture Pro clip. Perhaps that's due to user handling style, I'm not sure. If it does occasionally make insertion require extra effort it is not a show stopper and the convenience and security of the wrist strap outweigh any minor issues inserting into the Capture clip.

Works as advertised - just double check compatibility before ordering

Very comfortable. Tighten the strap while walking around an event and my Sony SLT-A55 with 18-250mm lens will not fall off of my hand. Get to an exhibit and quickly loosen the grip to take a shot. It does everything as advertised. Since my tripod is not ARCA, I have to remove the connector every time I want to do a tripod shot and that gets a little frustrating. I would not buy this again for that reason. Most of the ballheads that I want do not have ARCA mounts so I don't see any future relief for this issue. If you're considering buying don't make the mistake I did and assume that your tripod is compatible. It turns out the "standard" is not so standard.

Best hand strap that I have used!
by Brad Truxell (5 out of 5 stars)

I haven't used an actual camera strap for years and have been using the Camdapter Pro Hand Strap along with the Manfrotto tripod adapter. I recently upgraded to Arca Swiss plates and got a dedicated L-Bracket for my camera. While switching them out, I noticed the nylon strap starting to fray. I really liked the way the leather was wearing after 3 years of continuous use, but there was no way to replace only the nylon strap since its attached to the leather grip. I started researching new hands straps and came across the Peak Design Clutch. I was hesitant due to the tiny anchors and the plastic clip where the anchors slide into. I was also hoping for leather since I really like the way leather wears after years of use. When it arrived, the Clutch is a much higher quality design than I anticipated. The strap itself is high quality dive suit material with a thick pad. The black and red design also compliment Nikon cameras very well. The anchors are also higher quality than the pictures show and it's easy to attach/remove from the camera and super easy to adjust.

Peak Design - Upload higher quality images of this product! I almost didn't purchase this due to the pictures on your site. The strap looks worn and the stitching looks sloppy! Also the anchors are definitely not the same as the high quality ones that I received! Maybe it's a prototype?? I was sold on the Clutch when I read a review on a photographer's blog with pictures of the Clutch and it looked much better than the ones advertised on your site. I'm really glad I made this purchase.

Better Than Most But . . .
by The New Mexico Man (3 out of 5 stars)

I just got this and have to spend more time with it but here are my initial thoughts.

Pros: It is well made and the tension release and tightening feature is great! I can loosen it and get to all the camera's controls and then snug it up so it feels secure in my hand. The quick release plate it comes with is an Arca-Swiss type that fits my tri-pod head perfectly so no stacking quick release plates!

Cons: It's not as comfortable as the Spider Hand Grip. The padding on the Spider is more supple. This just may be a matter of getting used to it. But that may be the trade off to getting the tension release feature.

Conclusion:

A little pricy for it not being made with real leather that would conform to your hand. I gave it 3 stars. It is better than most but not quite the best one designed and made. I am still looking for that one!

PROS: I appreciate the design of this strap and the hardware seems really nice. I like the quick release tabs (and the fact it comes with an extra one) and the carabiner seems pretty solid.

CONS: The strap isn't very useful for my particular camera - Fuji x-e1 mirrorless, which isn't a product flaw, so your experience may differ. The X-e1 has the shutter button directly on top of the body, not slightly in front of it on a grip. That means if I put my hand into the strap, as intended, it's uncomfortable for me to contort my trigger finger to reach to the shutter release. I usually end up keeping my figure out of the strap which isn't as secure. I'll honestly stop using it as soon as I find another solution.

Another con, is another one of preference. I wish the mount had a pass through for another screw OR a quicker way to remove it. Currently I have to keep track of my little allen wrench. Which I'm not awesome at.

Bottom line is, this is going to be perfect for most people, I think. Build quality seems nice, design is good, hardware seems quality. I just wish it worked better for me.

If you don't always like to wear a camera strap on your neck.
by Amazon Reviewer (5 out of 5 stars)

The Peak Hand Clutch Strap is a well designed, and sturdy hand strap with a unique clip that allows the strap to be tightened or loosened with a touch of a finger. There are times that I prefer to not use a neck strap, such as in a studio setting or when doing some phases of location shooting. This clutch allows a very secure grip on the camera while moving about yet the quick release allows it to be loosened when shooting and the fingers need to access some camera controls. The material used in construction is soft and easy on the hands and does not cause any chafing. The plastic connectors on the attachment loops are soft enough so they do not damage the camera surfaces. The easy on easy off feature of the clutch makes changing from the clutch to a standard camera strap quick. If you don't always like to wear your camera around your neck and like to wander with the equipment in your hand, then I recommend the Peak Hand Clutch.

Good, not Great
by L. J. Walker (4 out of 5 stars)

Although I like this strap, I'm somewhat disappointed in its fit and flexibility. Generally, I'm pleased with Peak Design products, but they still feel a little "off" in their design, something that would take up far more space to address. I find that this strap is no exception. I appreciate the strap's ability to secure my camera, but it isn't a natural fit with my hand and as a result rubs the top of my hand, even when it's adjusted. I attribute this to the stiffness of the material. To add some padding, I will probably cut and secure moleskin to the underside to keep my hand from being chafed. Other than this, the product seems solid.

I use the clutch strap along with the Peak Design CapturePRO Camera Clip and the Peak Design Slide Peaks Edition Lassen Padded Camera Mount, Red
. I have been using it for almost a year now. Definitely a must if you are using the Capture clip, you want to be sure you have a good grip of the body as you unlock it from the clip. With or without the Capture clip, I have got used to the clutch strap and makes me feel secure. Using it with the Nikon D810 with Nikon 70-200mm 2.8f VRII and other pro lenses. The quality of the strap is superior and so is the design. Gels really well with other Peak Design products. Make sure you have tightened the clamp regularly.

Nice design, however NOT practical for Olympus E-M5 series bodies.
by M Dodge Thomas (3 out of 5 stars)
September 29, 2015

I REALLY like the capature clip series of products, unfortunately this one is not practical for use with the Olympus E-M5 series of bodies as the combination of the body and strap design makes it impractical to reach either the shutter release or the right side rear controls - the shutter and forward dial are *somewhat* more accessible with the accessory grip installed, but this does nothing improve access to other right rear controls, in either configuration my hand began to cramp up within a minute or two if I attempted to keep finger on the shuttter release - and I have small hands for a man.

Likely this strap would work better for larger bodies, but I suspect it's impracticable for any small body camera with a top mounted shutter release.
