If you have a problem putting it together...
by Erin M. Coyne (4 out of 5 stars)
January 1, 2018

I did my due diligence and read all the reviews before purchasing. Most people had no problem putting it together but it got a lot of 1 star reviews because people were having difficulty. I decided to take the leap and try for myself. I will update this review once I've actually used it, but it hasn't quite snowed yet for me to even try.

My review is based on the ease of putting it together. The instructions are precise and clear. Very easy to follow. However, I definitely hit a snag. There are about 3 real steps to putting it together, and if your unit is pieces together perfectly, should be zero issue. You have to insert the upper handle piece into the lower handle, but I wasn't able to. It just wouldn't go in because there was too much cord in the way. If you've ever put together a floor lamp, it's the same deal. You have to pull the cord through from the bottom.

To do this, you have to unscrew the 3 screws attaching the handle to the shovel. Then pull the handle up, pull the cord through as you have the upper piece in place and voila! Screw back in and you're in business. Super easy and anyone can do it. I get the frustration of not having it go together, and nowhere in the manual does it tell you that trick, but save for that, it was incredibly easy to put together and I think it will have been a great buy once I find occasion to use it!

The power is great! A helpful hint when assembling-- it is impossible ...

I bought this to clean my deck and steps. It was able to move a foot of snow off the deck, although I had to take my time. The power is great! A helpful hint when assembling-- it is impossible to insert the upper tube into the lower tube-Save time and swearing by removing the 3 screws on the base of the lower tube, pull the tube up and it will allow the upper tube to insert. Make sure the upper tube is NOT upside down when tightining the mounting screw, this too will invoke swearing. Replace the 3 screws and the machine is ready. Good luck.

Just like having a mini snowblower!!
by Chris W,Top Contributor: Photography (5 out of 5 stars)
January 24, 2016

I purchased this electric snow shovel just in time for a historic blizzard that dropped roughly 30+ inches of snow in my area.

Long story short -- this thing is a life saver!!!

It was like having a mini snow blower and I couldn't imagine trying to shovel 30 inches of snow without it.

Item arrived in just 2 days, was extremely easy to assemble (about 5 minutes), battery charged up in roughly 3 hours, and I was ready!! With a good charge expect to get about an hour of continuous use with it.

Couple of suggestions, use either Pam or WD-40 on the blade to prevent snow from building up. In addition, you'll want to hit the snow while it's still fresh and not frozen. I was able to clear 30+ inches of fresh snow in about 1/4 of the time with this little gadget.

Pros:

Portable

Lightweight

Strong

Easy Assembly

Cordless

Electric (no gas or oil to deal with it)

Throws Snow 20-25 Feet

Cons:

Battery shield easily pops open when in use

Handle shifts a little bit with heavy use

Not as advertised!
by Dr. J (2 out of 5 stars)

The machine is very heavy with the battery to run for a long time. There are no wheels, no instruction, no user manual, not ergonomically friendly for a 5'4" person, not balanced for easy usage, no way to adjust anything. The screw for the handle is in the battery box (being there are no instructions I didn't know where it was until I took the battery out to charge it. You'll need pliers to get it apart so you can use the screw and then there isn't any way to get it tight enough that it doesn't flip around on the machine. We have 19" of heavy snow (a bit of ice on top of it too) on the ground, it cannot handle a depth of more than 8 inches so it took 3 passes with each area to get it done; much faster with a manual shovel. The plus is, it does throw the snow a great distance and it's not as loud as some of the gas blowers. However, it can only throw in front of you. This wouldn't be much of an issue if it did a big path but it really only does about 10 inches in width so if you have 28" sidewalk and 19" of snow you need to do 9 passes; it takes forever and kills the back because it isnt ergonomically correct and being it only throws in front you need to throw and shovel side to side or you'll just create even more work for yourself. There is no way to adjust a thing except that handle which you can't tighten! Also, the battery is a pain! I charged it for two days, it showed two green lights but when I took it out to the machine it didn't work! I put it back on the machine and it shows it is empty, I went through this three times and it does the same thing every time. Thankfully, I had ordered an extra battery and that one works but it cost me over $100 more just to have a working machine! Needless to say I'm not impressed! Oh for those that need to know there is a gray lever on the battery and you need to move this up and down to get the battery in and out! Took me about 10 minutes to figure this out and how to run the thing. There is a tag on the machine in 4pt type font that says "to Start" instructions. But nothing in the box as to putting it together or usage. Seriously it is a back killer so if you have a bad back and are short like me, don't get this! So after this review you may be saying why not one star then, because it does work and throws the snow a long way which helps so that I don't have mountains next to the edge of the sidewalks, patio and deck. I bought the snow joe big blower too so I hope it is better.

I'll try and see if they will do anything about the battery, but being there was no manual I'll have to find out where to go. My expectations are very very low that they will replace the battery without more costs to me based on the quality and poor experience so far. But I could be surprised, and if so, I'll update this to let you know!

I am seventy two years old and was so happy to have this delivered before a snow
by louannsbusy (5 out of 5 stars)

I am seventy two years old and was so happy to have this delivered before a snow! Thankfully two gentlemen were here when it arrived and I asked them to help me get it out of the box, yes it is that clumsy! Fortunately also that they were moved by the guilt trip that I said I would not mention if they left me alone to try to get that handle together (yes, it was that difficult).

But I charged the battery and then ventured out onto my driveway.......It worked great......it was a heavy wet snow by then but it moved it without difficulty. I plan to use it to clear my porch and deck and steps and a trail for the dogs, which should be fine!

The only drawback is that it is heavier than I thought, but probably not for most people

DO NOT BUY

DO NOT BUY>>>>>>>>>>>Don't waste your money. Has no power to handle even 1 inches. So mad I can't return this. Tried and I stress tried to use this to just do a basic clean up after a real plow cleared my driveway. This video is a scam. No way it could ever work like that. If the company is listening please take mine back. SO frustrated. Hope I can save a few others the hassle. Don't believe any fake adds saying this thing works . It does not work as advertised. HUGE WASTE OF MONEY>

Heavy & Awkward
by Savvy Shopper (3 out of 5 stars)
March 4, 2018

This Snow Joe is heavy and awkward. I'm 5'8" and it is taller than me when it is upright. Also, for me, there's a lot of "care" necessary to keep the battery functional ... i.e., always keeping it partially charged, from winter to winter; never letting it go below 30%, etc. So, unfortunately, I returned it. I opened the box, put it together, read the directions and packed it back up. I never used it in the snow, so I don't know how well it would work. If Snow Joe would add wheels to this, I think it would it would be a lot better. If I should decide to go this route again, I think I might try a hybrid (battery & electric), and definitely something with a wheel.

I operate a snow removal service and I carry one ...
by Ryan Bierly (4 out of 5 stars)

I operate a snow removal service and I carry one with me. It doesn't do a prefect job but it gets 90-95% I use it to back breaking work and touch up with a standard shovel. You can't change the direction of the blow, but a little common sense you will know how to get it to work. I would buy another one.

Moves Lots of Snow, Just Not Where You Want It.
by LinkinT (2 out of 5 stars)
January 24, 2017

Bought this snow shovel based on the Amazon reviews. After trying the shovel during our first snow storm we were less than impressed. The shovel definitely moves snow. We had about 7-8" for the first storm. However, as the snow is shot out in front of the device, when the snow falls back to the ground, it tends to cover up some of the lanes you've already shoveled. And if there is any wind at all, the ejected snow is in such a fine grain that it blows all over the place and lands everywhere you have already shoveled and all over you. There were times I couldn't even see and I was covered head to toe in snow when I was finished. In the end I had to go over the entire drive way again using a standard shovel and clear the 1/2" of snow that had drifted back down. My wife also likes to shovel (believe it or not!), but this machine is too heavy for her and after 5 mins of working on our driveway, she had to switch back to a regular shovel.

Ultimately we returned this battery powered snow shovel.

Perfect if you are looking for something easy to use!
by hikergirl (4 out of 5 stars)

I love this. Just got it and used on about 1 to 3 inches of snow (powder mostly). Works great but there is blow back but after a couple times I found a way to avoid that and get the snow to blow where I wanted it. I'm older and I could push it with one hand if I wanted to and easy to carry where I needed it. Doesn't really go down to cement but gets very close and enough for me. I only have a single driveway, some front walk, and patio and I was able to do it all in about 10 to 15 minutes and still had plenty of battery left. I like the fact it has no cords, gas, and isn't bulky, easy to carry and virtually no upkeep required. Get the model with the battery and charger included if not you're going to spend a lot of money.
