I purchased 3 starter kits and 15 extender strings from various sellers.

PROS

Easy to set up.

Good light spacing between lights.

Nice to have app enabled lighting with color control.

CONS

Overpriced. They should be less than half of the retail price.

Glitchy bluetooth. Fails to connect sometimes when right in front of it. Keep trying and it will get connected. Disconnects on it's own randomly.

Limited Bluetooth. I need to be 15' or closer to each unit in order to control it. Should have been wifi enabled.

My biggest concern is that water will get in and destroy everything. It doesn't look well sealed from the weather.

Limited light control interface. There should be more choices in patterns and effects.

Light is dimmer than I expected but still better than some other brands of C9 LED sets.

Power must be on all the time in order to keep your settings. App should be used to turn the units on/off rather than switching the line power.

Customer support has not returned any of my emails (not the seller, the manufacturer) 1 bad string out of 18.

Connecting cords are shorter than expected. I would like extension cables in the future.

No sync function when running more than one controller.

App needs to be redesigned for more usability and control over features.

I would normally return these but I have decided to give them a try and report back in one year. My hope is that the company improves the quality of the product on the next generation if they are going to sell these at a premium price. Online search of reviews seem to point out many more flaws and failures.

Update: I purchased a total of 18 strings and 5 controllers and they have all failed except 3 strings and one controller. I have given up on lumenplay. After a deeper look in to the failures and taking a more forensic look. Water and wind are the culprit. The units can't handle much before they get infiltrated with moisture.

I have tried getting these lights to work, without success multiple times. I have used an Galaxy S4, S7, S7edge, Ipad, Iphone 8, and Iphone X. I have had a new controller shipped to me. I am done with this terrible product, and I have invested a lot of time, and money. Lumenplay no longer seems to support their product, as there has been long months since the last update, and no news about long standing issues being addressed. This is the worst product I have ever bought bar none. The only way to get these strands to light, is by putting them on a campfire, to watch the various metals burn up in toxic multi colored bliss! Merry Chrristmas, Lumenplay. I wish you into bankruptcy.

We bought two sets as well as the extensions. The lights are gorgeous, but the tech is wanting. At the time I purchased this in November 2015 a speaker was also promised in the Amazon listing. We did not get one with either set. One of our sets works great. The other makes you spend 5-10 minutes loading firmware every other time you turn it on. I called tech support (which makes you leave a message) and never heard back (I don't think anyone works there anymore). The app is cumbersome. You can do all the things the ad says, but it takes a while. Also, it won't run in the background (at least not on iPhone 6) so you have to commit your phone entirely to the tree or light string if you want a display set to music.

The concept is awesome.

Put up the lights once, and program different themes for all the holidays.

We've had some issues, but customer service has been responsive.

We love the product, but I think we bought a little early in the product's development.

This may not be the product for everyone. If you don't mind some tinkering with toys, and you have some patience and understanding with app-enabled internet-of-things you will probably like these-

But don't expect a pure plug-and-play experience.

This is absolute garbage if you have an Android phone. The description and Brookstone's own site read: "Control 16 million light colors from your iPhone®, iPad® or Android™ device using the free Lumenplay App" but that isn't exactly accurate. App for Android does not work as advertised, or control lights as it is supposed to - what is selected in-app is not what is displayed by the light set. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lumenplay&hl=en I spent $150 on these light sets last Christmas (2014) for a friend to use at her small boutique hotel, as well as the same combo set for myself. Because of the phone she was using, she could get her lights to only display green. I have tried mine again almost 1 year later and had only a minor improvement over that experience - I can get the lights to display 2 colors at a time...but not colors of my choosing.

Stopped working after 1 day, can't contact seller

I tried these lights out, and they seemed great. For about a day and a half, until some software update issue caused them to stop working. I tried everything their website listed, and much more. I even tried contacting the sellers on multiple occasions, but was unable to do so.

I would not recommend buying them, and if you do, make sure to buy from a seller you trust, instead of buying on here.

I bought these lights in early November because of the advertised music function.
"Music visualizer allows you to choose a set of colors and make them dance to the beat of your own music."

Until November 20, no music function was available despite the promise, and now despite the claims, there is only the option to pulse your lights (on-off) to your music.

So if you want lights that you can turn on and off with your phone, you could buy these lights, or you could just hook your existing Christmas tree lights to a WeMo switch.

The app to control the lights does not work well at all. Returned them. Won't buy again, not worth the money you pay for then.
