Product Description

The Madd Gear Mini Trift Trike is a unique blend of big wheel fun and BMX style. The aptly-named Mini Drifter features a big 16" front tire and 2 extra fat rear tires that let you get some serious drifting action. You'll be speeding and spinning all over the place - that is, if you can handle it. This trike has a low center of gravity that ensures maximum drift and slides. The front tire is extra grippy, and the Drift Trike comes equipped with a front brake so you can quickly and easily slow down and stop when you need to. The frame and bars of the trike are made from super strong and stiff steel that can handle the bumps and scrapes that come with riding. MGP is known for their high-quality pro scooters and parts, and now they've stepped into a new realm of fun with their MGP Mini Drift.

Fun for Everyone!!

Used this @ Makers Faire as a free use on our race track.. Age range 4-70 yr olds... Yes, I'm 52, 5'-10" and 210 lbs and I got on it to chase the kids around our track. I was care full getting on and off and not at full tilt boogie, but it held up just fine and I had FUN! We used duck on the back tires to make them last longer, so it toke away some of the sliding. Front tire worked much better than the hard plastic other type big wheels. We are buying more very soon..

wish i had seen one in person first :(

I have some issues with this thing. at first glance it looks cool, but theres some definite flaws. i have almost 30 years building bmx and mtn bikes, so when i saw the clamp on stem, bike front wheel and v brake i had high hopes. well that 16" steel front wheel came a bit bent, so the crappy brake cant be dialed in. it either rubs, or if you adjust so it wont rub, the lever squeezes all the way to the bar before the pads touch the rim, and wont stop it. you can see the horrible amount of flex in this system. i have already ordered a shimano v brake to replace the CHEAP STAMPED STEEL V- brake , and a tektro alloy lever to replace the CHEAP PLASTIC one that came on it. Now about that stem- its a typical mtb type steel 1-1/8 threadless stem but the fork is NOT THREADLESS. you have to clamp on the threaded portion. its safe to say clamping a steel stem on a thin threaded fork steerer tube will ruin these threads which ARE used for the old school THREADED headset bearings. the welds look like crap too. spatter everywhere covered with a very thin layer of black paint. i say its thin, because the rear axle came scratched down to bare metal. you could see the hole thru the cardboard, so looks like it left the factroy poorly packaged too. i am debating just returning this and getting a triad drift trike instead. I WANT this one to work because its smaller than the smallest triad one, but if i cant make it feel safer for my 6 year old its going back for sure.

My kids are enjoying it. There really aren't too many other options if you're a trike family outgrowing the radio flyers. It's a much heavier frame, although that doesn't appear to affect the speed (just makes it harder for dad to lug it back into the garage!). Also, I had to tighten the thing several times to stop the handbars from falling out of allignment. The most surprising negative was the inability of the trike to turn sharpely without the pedals hitting the ground. Now, I suppose if your whole goal is the 'drift' turn that won't be an issue. But it greatly complicates doing normal turns.

All in all--for the money--a decent, sturdy product. But I wish there was an alternative (a radio flyer 2.0 for 9 or 10 year olds.)

Worth the money.

First order was lost by UPS. Cancelled first order and requested item again. Order was quickly filled. The trike is a little big for my 6 yr old boy. My 10 yr old daughter loves doing 180's. Assembly was pretty easy. Watched the MADD Gear assembly video and was done in less than 45 minutes. Love how the brake cables are internal! Well constructed.

Daughter loves it

Bought this for my daughter over 3 years ago for her birthday, and she loves it. it went together with ease, is stylish, and has seat adjustments that allow it to grow as she does. its still her bike of choice when riding in our neighborhood, just because of the ability to slide around. if there is any negatives, it would be that (at least at the time of my purchase) there was only the black/green available. my daughter would've loved a pink/white (or some color more appealing to girls) and I would've loved a brighter colored bike that makes it more visible to people/cars, especially since its so low.

My kids literally lived on these this past summer. They are a little long from seat to pedal and are more comfortable for 6-10 year olds however my tall 3 year old can whip around on this thing like nobody's business. Great quality and good customer service directly with the company.

I Like It, But I Don't Love It

We've had this bike for less than a month. Certain parts broke within 2 uses of the trike on the first day, nothing essential, just covers on the outside of the petals. The front wheel was initially put on backward by my husband so the petals weren't working, but that was quickly resolved. The front wheel turns so far it is easy to scrape the ground with it and scratches the front wheel cover up a bit easily. The brakes work well so far. My 5-year-old son is 3'10 and had a bit of trouble initially but has learned how to sit and reach the pedals and can really move on this thing when going down the street. He leaves the kids on the plastic big wheels in the dust. He has a little bit of a stretch to grab the brake, but it hasn't been an issue thus far. His favorite thing to do is to fly downhill on the driveway and turn around the back of the house and go into the grass -- he's been doing this on his old toddler trikes for years.

Haven't opened it yet. I don't know why a new item would come in a box clearly opened and taped back shut. Can't wait to see what's been borrowed out of the box. Smh... Taped back shut by a 4 year old to boot! Having opened it all the essential parts were there. Everybody has talked about stripping bolts and Allen keys. I think everybody is overtightening everything. Use common sense. Not an automobile guys. Not a lug nut... It went together alright. Still tweaking brakes which are kinda crappy. But other than that and stickers having been taken out of the box( now I see why it's been opened and ramsacked) seems alright. Time will tell.. 90 day warranty and my boys will probably wear the backwheels out before that!

Needs a design overhaul....
by Tammy (2 out of 5 stars)

Over all the functionality was disappointing and the design is poor. I was not able to tighten the handlebars enough to keep the wheel aligned with the front wheel, after one "drift" the wheel was at a 90 degree angle from the handlebars. Even after putting tape on the pipe to try and make the fit tighter it only lasted a dozen or so more drifts. Ultimately a bolt needed to be driven though the post to keep the handlebars aligned with the front wheel. Also a bike mechanic was required to make the brakes functional and even with that they don't work all that well. Unfortunately there isn't much choice in a bike like this at this price point. I wasn't looking for a high performance bike, just something my son can ride up and down the street I would have thought that for $100 I could have at least gotten that.

Returned b/c it was not great quality

We bought this for a Christmas gift and my husband, who is very handy with these types of assembly, got it altogether but had a terrible time getting the brakes and wheel positioned as needed so that the bike would actually "drift." You have to install the brakes and wheels yourself, which isn't anything out of the ordinary in general, but the brakes weren't high-quality. For the price, we weren't expecting outstanding quality, but working was a definite must.
