Allows fast touch-typists to blast through work in a mobile way
by AA (4 out of 5 stars)
March 7, 2017

Great keyboard. Fits in jeans back pocket and is usable. key placement is standard and allows for fast touch-typists to blast through work in a mobile way.

pros:

Keys are big (not as big as surface keyboard but almost).

bluetooth seems solid.

cons:
70$ is a bit much i'd be happier if this cost me $50 instead

bottom line: i have new found mobility that was not formerly possible. i carry my iPhone + keyboard and get work done without the need for a laptop. This is great for someone who writes a lot or blasts through emails at coffee shops / airports... cramped situations where working with tablet / phone would benefit from a physical keyboard.

see video for a quick unboxing and sample of how typing sounds.

Very nice keyboard, but experiencing pairing issues
by Alyssa P (4 out of 5 stars)

Based on MY personal experience with this keyboard that I've used for 2 days now:

Likes:
- the design; very comfortable, easy to type on
- the controls; all of the buttons work well with my Galaxy Note 8.0 tablet and my Galaxy Note 3 phone, as well as my work-issued Dell Latitude 10 st2
- setup; first time setup was a breeze; easy to connect to each device for the first time

Dislikes:
- Does not remember the pairing to any device! (same as Gary from a previous Amazon review)

First time setup for each device was easy. However, pairing back from one device to another is my issue. It would not automatically pair back with Device 1 when pressing that button. I would have to open my Bluetooth settings, UNPAIR the device first, then pair it again to get the 6-digit key. Same with Device 2. After much experimenting, this is the only way to use this keyboard. Simply pressing on the keyboard's name in the bluetooth settings will tell me that the device is unable to communicate with the keyboard. So it was necessary to unpair then pair again to get the 6-digit key. Needless to say, switching between devices was irritating and not seamless at all.
- Re-pairing devices

So having to re-pair the device, I'd have to repeat the first time setup procedure (holding the Device 1 or 2 button for 3 secs to get the blinking light to switch the OS). It would take me quite a while to get this done, as the keyboard would not seem to register that I'm trying to pair to a device again. I would just have to keep trying until I got lucky.

I really like this keyboard, but the one reason that I bought it (easy pairing between 2 devices) is the one thing that does not work.

A wonderful gift for the writer in your life.

BEST. THING. EVER.

Confession - I own two of these. One sits on my nightstand and one goes in my purse. You only have to charge it once every few months, and it can survive rain, snow, being jumped on by kids, being thrown (in the purse) across the room, spilled liquids, sticky hands, and probably anything short of a blast furnace. I use this to get writing projects done when I'm on the go. Car repair store, waiting room at the dentist, school pick-up line... anywhere I might get stuck with nothing to do. It hooks up to my phone and I can email myself, or use it to create an Excel sheet while I'm on the bus. If you have a job that has you always at the keyboard or on the go and you don't want to drag a clunky laptop everywhere, this is your new best friend.

I spilled hot tea on mine...
by Client Amazon (5 out of 5 stars)
March 6, 2017

Had this keyboard for roughly a year and a half now and it is amazing. It takes a little getting used to because of the gap in the middle of the board (where it folds). I definitely had to practice traditional typing habits to use the board efficiently. Other than that it is super water resistant. I accidentally spilled hot tea on the keyboard. I immediately turned it over. It was easy to wipe clean, even in between the keys, and it was on the entire time. Never missed a beat. The board fits perfectly in my small purse, and I love using it with my cell phone when I am out 'n' about and need to work from my phone; answering emails, editing documents, making headway on projects, etc. I love it.

ONLY DRAWBACK is that it does not have a "print screen" button...but it survived the hot tea spill, so it keeps all 5 stars.

Great keyboard for mobile use.
by Harlan Kanoa Sheppard (5 out of 5 stars)

This is the best portable bluetooth keyboard I have ever used. Which is admittedly a low bar. It is one of the better keyboards I've used in general, though. Top 10.

In all seriousness, it is a very welcome addition to the available hardware for mobile productivity. The material that the Universal Foldable Keyboard is made out of is a bit reminiscent of that material that the iPad Smart Covers are made out of. This is not meant to be an unflattering comparison. It's got a pleasant feel against skin, and it's very easy to tell what it is inside your bag without having to look.

The 'hinge' holding it closed is a magnet, which rather ingeniously also serves as the on/off switch. When the keyboard is unfolded, it will power on. When collapsed, the device will turn off. When open, the Micro-USB plug on the far right side of the keyboard is used for charging. I haven't found the end of the battery yet, but I charge it for a couple hours each week. When collapsed, it takes up little enough room that it fits in the back pocket of my grid organizer.

One great feature that places this device head and shoulders above its contemporaries is the ability to effortlessly switch back and forth between two devices. It's really handy when you get to try it. You'll be typing up a document on your iPad and then get a text message. You don't even have to pick up the phone. Just press the appropriate function key and the keyboard changes over.

The split keyboard is a little bit of a learning curve, but it's not something that's bothered me about the keyboard. I've included size comparisons in the attached images. I think that the keys are sufficiently sized that you don't end up hitting the wrong key because of crowding. Tactile sensation is roughly similar to a better laptop keyboard, with enough travel in the keys that you can type by touch.

After years of being frustrated with Microsoft's operating systems, this is really a breath of fresh air.

Well Made, but that Gap...
by J. Fischer (3 out of 5 stars)
September 12, 2016

This is a well made keyboard from Microsoft. It feels well-built and the keys have a decent amount of travel for such a slim keyboard. For me though, I just cant get used to the huge gap between the left and right sides of the board. I'm sure if I used this keyboard on a daily basis or at least more often than just every now and again it would get easier, but I purchased this for use as a mobile/travel keyboard which involves periods of heavy use followed by long periods of very little use--so I find it difficult to really get a good familiar feeling typing on this thing. I want to like it a lot more than I actually do. I wish Microsoft could have found a way to keep the folding mechanism the same/similar while minimizing the gap between the different sides of the keyboard.
**NOTE: To Pair, make sure you hit 'ENTER' after entering the code. Thanks to other reviews on here for this info.

If you want a super light, easy to pack, but great working keyboard, this is it!
by JB (4 out of 5 stars)

I've had this keyboard for about a year. I bought it from Amazon. This is a great keyboard for someone who needs to travel light, but still have a reliable keyboard that doesn't feel flimsy. Don't worry about the gap - I got used to it within a week. I use it for my iPad primarily but also connected it to my SurfacePro 4. Some people have expressed that they had issues with pairing, but I have not. It just requires following the directions, at least in my case.

I recently decided to try the Apple Smart Keyboard for my iPad Pro and I can tell you that after trying to get used to it for a week, I went back to the Microsoft Foldable Keyboard, primarily because of how it feels when I'm typing. I'm a fairly quick touch-typist and I find that I have less errors with this keyboard than the Apple Smart Keyboard. I also like that I can have a slim but full cover on my iPad, and only use a keyboard when I need one, rather than carrying it all the time.

I'd prefer that the keys were backlit, but I suppose that would add additional weight or thickness to this very slim keyboard. It does need to be on a flat surface to work best. It is nice to be able to just fold it up and put it in a pocket in my backpack or briefcase. I suppose you could carry it in your pocket, but I don't.

If you want a super light, easy to pack, but great working keyboard, this is it!

Best folding keyboard around.
by Jimmy M. (5 out of 5 stars)
April 7, 2017

I have had zero issues with this. The size is perfect. Battery life is excellent (ive never charged since the first charge). Always sinks right away. No lag. One thing people say which you should note; doesn't work well for quick use in your lap, due to the folding design. I thought i would never need this, and only have once, but when I did, I had to awkwardly peck on it trying not to collapse the thing. I plan to buy a few for presents for co-workers and family.

Blows all other keyboards away for 2018 iPad
by Mare3 (5 out of 5 stars)

I experiemented with at least a dozen keyboards, and compared to the smart Apple keyboards as well on the pro.

This keyboard folds up to almost nothihng, has WONDERFUL keys (stroke depth, feedback) for a high speed touch typist, battery life measured in months between charges, pairs quickly and effortlessly.

I took me forever to find this keyboard because my Amazon searches never brought it up. I didn't know it existed. I just saw it in a video review of different keyboards and had to do a direct Amazon search for it.

I absolutely love this thing. Definitely one of the best overall keybords I've used in decades. I'm extremely fast on it and it doesn't make my fingers hurt.

I do not like Microsoft, but I have to admit, their peripherals have always been of the highest. quality.

Need a flat surface and a way to prop your device
by Roy (5 out of 5 stars)
July 15, 2015

I have a sack full of Bluetooth keyboards. Most of them are "cases" of some sort, and most of them are pretty terrible when a keyboard isn't needed and mildly terrible when one IS needed.

This is different, and I really like it because:
1. It's full(er) size and connects easily.
2. It's iOS and Microsoft friendly. I use an iPhone, iPad, and an MS tablet, so device switching and a flexible keyboard layout are important to me.
3. It folds to save space, and automatically shuts off when you fold the keyboard.
4. It's a small thing, but I really like finishing work, and the Thwap! Sound that the keyboard makes when I close it up is pretty satisfying.

If there's a negative, it's that you have to have a way to prop your gizmos (but most cases do that) and a flat surface to use the keyboard on.
