Mounting bolt too short
by Amazon Customer (2 out of 5 stars)
April 15, 2018

Mounting bolt is too short by about 2-3mm, which renders product virtually unusable. I requested a replacement bolt, which the seller quickly provided but it is also too short. In the photo below an original GoPro mounting bolt is shown on the left. I am using that mounting bolt for a different set up so it is a pain to keep switching the screw back and forth. I am going to keep trying till they send me one that is the proper length.

Soooooooooo lets see, i strapped it on to a back pack and realized that the back piece to the device really digs into your shoulder to the point that it can get raw. Its not comfy and used it a couple time till i got tired and threw it in the draw because handheld was better then the pain it would cause by digging into you!

Does NOT lock in place, not secure, contrary to what the lever indicates.

I bought this because it screws on both side of the straps, therefore i thought this would be rugged for extreme activities to ensure my gopro doesn't fall off a mountain or to the depths of the ocean if snagged on something. Instead, the "unlock" lever does not stay in the locked position if the gopro itself is snagged. A VERY light force on the gopro will detach it from the rest of the strap body. See the video...

Not A Secure Mount
by John in NJ (1 out of 5 stars)

I finally had the chance to try this out with a GoPro Hero 7 Black and just processed my return. There were two issues with this mount. First, the included thumbscrew isn't long enough to actually screw into the other side of the mount when using the Hero 7 frame. It just spins and spins and spins. I substituted the included screw with a GoPro OEM screw and it was only long enough to engage by a couple of rotations, so the camera rotated down as soon as the thumbscrew loosened. This makes is basically useless. The second issue is that the mounting plate disengages pretty easily from the strap mount when bumped - even when "locked" in.

I returned mine and ordered a Peak Designs mount to replace it. Peak Designs is professional gear so isn't cheap (the remaining V2 model is currently $50 and V3 setup is $80 on Amazon), but for $20 more for the V2, I'd rather get the shot than lose my camera.

Great Product. Use it for Scuba/Snowboard/Kayaking
by Nick (5 out of 5 stars)

This mount has a durable, quality feel to it. The screws work very smooth with no thread binding you get from cheap manufacturing. The lever works well for releasing the camera mount and the rigidity of the clamp keeps the camera in place. I bought this unit to mount to my Scuba BCD. It works great however I would also recommend PolarPro's ProGrip. The ProGrip locks into the strap mount and releases with the lever. If you're wearing scuba gloves (or even snowboard gloves) you don't want to mess around with the small screw. The ProGrip also has a storage compartment for SD Cards and extra batteries.

Excellent hardware and function. Minor issues only.

Mounted the PolarPro StrapMount on my pack's shoulder strap. Secure, worked as described. Couple of things on the negative side: (1) On a backback shoulder strap the backside of the clamp rests against your shoulder area. You'll need to adjust it to get the best spot to minimize potential discomfort doing a multi-hour hike. The good news on this, however, is that the clamp is easy to put on and take off and easy to adjust (vertical position on shoulder strap). (2) The other frustrating thing I ran into is getting the camera mount to slide out from the StrapMount easily. It can get stuck it seems, not all the time, but frequently. Not sure what is going on here, but it happens. On the other hand, once you slide the mount/camera into position, it is very secure and stable. Overall, it is a well-made product, works well, and is built to last.

Affordable & versatile action camera mount that gives you plenty of options and can be used with Yi

A very well made "Action Camera Mount" I use the Yi 4K with the waterproof case and it fits with no issues.
* Great versatility of the angle that the camera can be in
* The mount takes all kind of action camera accessories
* Back plate of the mount has loop holes for straps to be fed through for mounting
* Release mechanism works well and I didn't have any issues with taking off the camera for quick shots and then replacing it on the mount
** This mount will work for most backpacks out there but not for all. I have a GORUCK and the straps have extra padding and this mount would not clamp on in the conventional way. I had to feed a strap though the loop holes and then feed that through the webbing on my pack. Just be careful and add yourself a tether cable for added security.

Great backpack mount. Works as intended.
by Thomas R (4 out of 5 stars)

Works great on a regular back pack. Just lock it in and film. It offers a nice semi normal looking perspective, mid level and almost centered.

No issues with the thumb screws poking out the other side. I could see issues if you were to use it on a thin backpack or string gym bag for sure, but that is not using it as intended. As mentioned normal backpacks work fine.

Lastly, why ease of use got 4 stars; its not as easy to latch and unlatch sometimes. Far from a deal breaker however. Help the camera nice and snug.

Wish there were other mounts to compare this too.

I really do like this product, but it may be b/c no one else makes one similar that I've been able to find. After making my own modifications to the mount I really like it. It's definitely 5 stars the way it sits now, but as it comes out of the box it'd only a 3.

First of all the mounting screws are way too long. Why are they half an inch longer than the mounting base? No backpack strap is that thick. I had to cut the thumb screws b/c they dig into your shoulder when you mount the base to your backpack strap.

Second, there is no padding on the backside of the mount. There should be, I added my own padding to the mount and it is much more comfortable now.

Third, the locking mechanism for the base is pretty crappy. You can pull it right off without undoing the latch, it could be much better.

Cool idea, but not the greatest execution.
by Zachary (2 out of 5 stars)

I bought this for a trip I was taking. I liked the idea of having my GoPro on my backpack strap for convenience and having a first person perspective. I walked around with the camera on, but I found that with my backpack strap the camera would tilt left or right cause the camera to rotate and screw up the level horizon. I wasn't able to torque down the screws enough to get it to hold on to the strap.

Removing and installing it on my backpack took way longer than it should. The anodized hardware was nice, but the screws were really long. I assume they want the customer to have adaptability for their situation, but it just meant lots of screwing and unscrewing.
