I accidentally ordered the wrong size and contacted Ruffit for a size exchange. I needed an XL instead of a L. They were extremely understanding about it and offered the exchange it as long as I was willing to pay for the shipping (which seemed fair). I will say that the product and concept is great...but for my 30lb Eskipoo, the XL is still a little too snug. I can see my senior dog tolerating the ride on my back for a short while, but I probably wouldn't want to keep him in the backpack too long because there really isn't much room for him to sit comfortably in the pack. I think if the seating area of the backpack was just a couple of inches wider, I think a larger dog like mine would be more comfortable. I know this backpack is probably meant to transport smaller dogs, but as my dog starts to get older, whatever options exist to help make his life a little easier, I will consider. Overall, I think this product is great. If my dog was an inch or two shorter in length and perhaps 5 lbs lighter, the XL carrier would be great.

Love it! One little safety concern
by Lori (4 out of 5 stars)

My dog was a bit dubious about the carrier at first but he loves riding on my bike and is just a bit to heavy for a safe ride in my bike basket, which is mounted on the handle bars. As soon as we were riding though, he got it and was very happy - face over my shoulder, sniffing the wind (right next to my ear).

The only problem I can see is a simple, missing safety feature that the company could easily remedy - and one that I plan to fix myself at home - the criss-cross straps do tighten down nicely, but my dog was able to shift around enough that the criss-cross moved lower as he shifted and settled in the pack on my back, until I wasn't sure if he was secure enough. My family was nervous that he might shift and fall out (though Ruff It recommends attaching his collar or harness to the pack for safety - I wasn't seeing how that would fit). So - we tied the straps across the top for the first ride, and I've since purchased a bit of nylon strap and a small adjustable clip, which I'm going to sew on to the criss-cross straps so I can be sure they won't open up and can ride with more ease of mind.

The pack is really neat though, and a better design than others I have seen. I love having my friend looking over my shoulder and sniffing in my ear, and my dog seems to be a big fan too. I look forward to using it more this fall! Thanks Ruffit!

Don't feel secure with side zippers
by sprtsgirl (3 out of 5 stars)

purchased this via the company I have used it a few times, but still feel a little uneasy because my dog is fidgety, especially when we get close to home and the zippers on the side to not lock. I have had them come open!!! He also does not like to get into it at first he is fine once on my shoulders. I am just paranoid that if we go over a bump a zipper could open. I thought the idea of the plastic cradle would be nice but I feel that restricts how they can put their hind legs. I am past the return date so I will just use it for short rides possibly. it is a headach to get him in and the video he shows his dog but would have been nice to see how others got their dogs in them. May purchase from a different company.

It's worth the wait

I bought this product last year and though it took a while to get but I understood that it was a startup with an entrepreneur at the beginning stages of running his business. All things considered this was a great experience. From the anticipation of getting it to actually being able to put my pups in it, I love the product. It was a smaller than I'd hoped but I'm excited to hear that they now make an xl, and I'm totally buying it direct! Great well made product from a good company.

Problems with Fit Leads to High Quality Product That Can Not Be Used
by Rachel R Larson (2 out of 5 stars)
March 18, 2016

Ordered a product through the company directly. I wanted to make sure we measured correctly so both me and my husband took independent measurements and ended up ordering a large/slim (looking back at my order confirm) for our 12 lbs shih tzu who has a longer torso. We received the product and found the diagram for putting the dog in the carrier confusing. We tried to get her to fit but thought we were doing it wrong so we set it aside...losing track of it due to some health issues with another pet, I broke out the carrier again recently and this time just made the determination there is no way she'd fit in it. I tried to follow-up with the company, realizing we were beyond their 15 day return window (greatly), but its brand new, barely handled at all and I believe that the issue lies more in the fact that the accurate measurements did not get us the right size based on their guidelines. The carrier seems of good quality so its too bad I can't use it. It's been approximately 2 weeks and I haven't received a confirmation that they've received my inquiry nor a response of any sort. I'm really bummed as I was hoping this nearly $100 purchase would help us and our older rescue pooch be able to take longer walks together but now its just hanging in my closet not sure what to do with it. I am not sure where I stand on the product, since fit is so key I am giving it a lower review. It's sort of like Toms shoes (if you buy them). I really love the premise, but the sizes are so all over the board when you order a size 7, some fit, most don't although they are all supposed to be the same size...so I've given up on a company that I love because in the end the product's usefulness is important. I have no idea what to recommend in terms of sizing, I thought I did everything right, double checking measurements before ordering using their guidance on how to measure.
