The Girls Scouts Cookie Oven was an okay product. First, you need to be sure to add one extra milliliter of water than called for in the directions to the chocolate batter. Secondly, the light was barely visible, although you could still see the cookies inside the oven. Third, step 10 reads "Slide the cookie control slowly to the left until you reach the arrow indicated on the oven." I saw no clearly visible arrow on the oven and just used the illustration as a guide. Lastly, chips took about 10 minutes to melt, not five as stated in the directions. My girls had fun eating the extra melted chips out of the pan with a spoon. As to taste, it was spot on!. I liked that the oven was warm to the touch but not so hot that I feared someone getting burned.

Girl Scouts Cookie Oven IS Wicked Cool
by Chad H Draheim (4 out of 5 stars)

The Girl Scouts Cookie Oven was a birthday gift for our newly seven-year-old Daisy Scout.

I was hesitant to make the purchase after reading many of the train-wreck 1 star reviews, but this was THE gift on her list. It was also available well below MRP, so I took the plunge. I'm glad I did. My girls had a great time, there was minimal mess, and the end product was delicious.

The PROS:
-The instructions were very clear and easy to follow. My 1st grade reader was able to read the instructions herself.
-Everything worked the way it was supposed to. (Hallelujah!)
-Minimal mess. One small bowl, a spoon, a tray and plenty of time between steps to clean as you go made this a more pleasant experience than your typical cookie baking with kiddos ordeal.
-Quantity. By following all of the directions and being very efficient with the cookie batter- scraping every last bit from the bowl, limiting the sample tasting the batter, etc. there was enough batter for six two-inch cookies. Some reviewers griped about the quantity of cookies per packet of mix, but it's a toy oven with a 4" cookie sheet. Half a dozen little cookies seems pretty reasonable, and it was a perfect sized snack for my Daisy and Cadette Scouts to share. They even saved one for me.
-The extra steps that simulated real Girl Scout Cookies. For the Thin Mints, it was melting the chocolate chips and coating the chocolate cookies. (I am speaking from my Girl Scouts' point of view on this part!) As a parent this step was a little futzy from my point of view, but it wasn't the disaster mess I worried it would be. Also, I concede that this extra step really made the experience for them. After all, you can't have Thin Mints without the coating.
-Taste. For the record, they really DO taste like the real thing.

The CONS:

There was very little that we could find wrong with this toy. My only criticism of the Girl Scouts Cookie Oven isn't how it performs, but rather what it doesn't include. Only ONE cookie mix comes with the oven. One batch of Thin Mints is rather underwhelming, and downright stingy if you are purchasing the oven at MRP! (Remember those Easy Bake Ovens that came with a cake mix, a cookie mix, a brownie mix, and a frosting mix??) Refill packs are available in all the Girl Scout favorites, but like all proprietary mini baking mixes, they come at a premium price. I knocked my rating down 1 star for this reason.

Our Experience:

The oven itself was very easy to use. My Daisy Scout was able to insert the cookie tray, slide it into the baking area, slide it back out and retrieve the tray with the spatula tool when it was time to take the cookies out. Most of the negative reviews centered on the difficulty of using this feature and having the tray irretrievably stuck in the oven. I have three words: READ INSTRUCTIONS FIRST! (Further commentary on this at end of review)

From start to finish, the process of making a batch of Thin Mint cookies took about 20 minutes. This included letting my 7 year old perform each step independently, washing the tray and equipment between baking and frosting cookies, clean up and consumption. We did not melt the chips on the top of the oven, I opted for the microwave and they were melted and ready to use in 2 minutes. We dipped our cookies in the melted chocolate and then smoothed out the frosting on each, which was much easier than trying to spread the melted chips. Our cookies came out soft, and I am not sure if that is how they are meant to be or if we didn't cook them long enough. Regardless, the whole process from start to finish was easy and fun. My Daisy and Cadette Scouts rated the Girl Scouts Cookie oven a 5.0 and a 4.5, respectively.
****Commentary on cookie sheets that get stuck:

The tray is meant to be inserted lengthwise, which seems counter-intuitive. If the tray is inserted the WRONG WAY, it won't go onto the track properly and will get stuck. I know this because my girls were playing around with the oven when it was first unwrapped and slid the tray in narrow end first. Flipping the oven over and sliding the tray out resolved the issue of the stuck cookie sheet.

Girl Scouts Cookie Oven

So far this item is great! Grand Daughter loves it. Bakes cookie's with ease. I decided, based on reviews to make cookie dough, it baked just fine. My daughter bought store ready made dough it too baked just fine. Glad I didn't spend extra money on the GS mixing sets the one that came with the oven was awful, my Grand daughter wouldn't even eat them. If you are looking to purchase a toy oven that bakes I would go with this one. They don't make the other brand like they used to. GS is the better of the real/play bake ovens.

No Bueno
by Jennie (2 out of 5 stars)

They don't make things like they used to... Maybe I was just too young to notice when I had my Easy Bake oven as a child, but this one is pretty junkie. The inside has already broken once since Christmas day (we had to take it apart to reinsert the metal part that the pan slides onto). Also, it doesn't fit a deeper pan than about a quarter of an inch, so my girls can't make "cakes", only "cookies" (which turn out horribly, I might add). I would not recommend this oven. Not sure if they're all the same pieces of junkie plastic these days or it's just this one, but definitely not a great buy....

It's really cute and fun. The cookies actually taste good

My four year old son picked this out to use an Amazon gift card on that he received for Christmas. It's really cute and fun. The cookies actually taste good! I'm only giving it four stars instead of five because it's really hard to get the pan out after the cookies are done baking. Also, the cookie mixes are expensive and you only get a few with the oven. Otherwise, this is a great toy.

I Won Christmas With This One!
by Optimus Crymez (5 out of 5 stars)

This was my niece's favorite gift, so I won Christmas 2016!

She sent me pics of her little cookies and was very proud of herself! Her parents said that the instructions were super easy and that after they set it up, it was easy to help her get her batches going. They said that the cookies baked well and tasted fine. Of course my niece would love them, she's five and loves sweets!

Overall, this made Auntie Optimus Crymes look like a super hero and I will proudly puff my chest out!

1 bag of cookie mix included - disappointed.

Includes only 1 package of cookie mix? And the mint chips included were double the amount of cookie dough. The dough only made 3 cookies not 6, and those were the size of a 50 cent piece. The directions were horribly written with 25 steps to cook 3 cookies. So Christmas day, we made our 3 cookies, chucked the mint chips and put the oven in a closet where I it will sit until my Etsy cookie mixes show up in a few weeks. I hoped it was better than I expected, unfortunately it was worse. You could try and make your own - but you could not make anything that rises - the slot is only large enough for the tiny try to fit.

Easy bake has some competition.
by BrokeJo (4 out of 5 stars)

My daughter wanted an easy bake for Christmas and I was behind the ball. I found the girls out oven as an alternative and these associated mixes. I was so nervous because it's bit an easy bake.

Well she loved it and it does work great, cookies are simple to make but genuine girl scout cookies.

I don't give it five stars just because it has to really wow me, but it is great from a parents perspective for usability and durability and my daughter loved it. She is 9 by the way.

Super cute, and tons of safety features

This oven came as pictured and is entertaining. Super cute, and tons of safety features, although cookies are literally nickel-sized, making them a tad difficult. Tasty and Fun, but lots for mom to clean and do. Refills are pricey.

FYI for 'gifters'... Ships in product box, not hidden.
by Layne (5 out of 5 stars)
December 8, 2016

My review is more of an fyi/warning.. if this is a gift be aware that they ship it in the actual, girl scout oven box. This causes two issues: #1 the gift recipient, generally a very curious/nosey young child will see what it is! #2 The box looks all jacked up and dinged, scraped, small crunches here and there and big ugly shipping labels in various spots.

Giving 5 stars before opening, simply bc we've had plenty of these play ovens and they're similar. Will update if it's super junk, etc.
