The sound is good. This replaced my Mini Boom. Sound seems just a good.

The shape is odd. I don't like the design as much as I liked the Mini Boom, but perhaps the shape creates less of a uni-directional sound? I never had an issue with the Mini Boom, so I can't say for sure.

The strap is useful. Since the shape is odd, the strap becomes essential. I strap the thing to my car, to my shower, to my backpack, to tons of stuff. It

also means that I can hide it, since I don't think it looks that great.

The charging port has too little clearance. There are situations where you'll want to charge the Roll with a different charging plug than the included one and you might not be able to fit it, which is frustrating. Like my car charger - it doesn't fit - and it's sort of the most important charger I'd like to use.

Connectivity is decent. I had issues with my phone recognizing the Roll during initial setup. But that might be a quirk with my (used) model.

Ultimately, I wish my Mini Boom still worked.

Great sounding portable & rugged bluetooth speaker

Every bluetooth speaker is a compromise. Even the big JBLs, which sound booming, don't compare to a home stereo. If you are looking for a bluetooth speaker that packs easily and is light for travel, plus can be handled rough and get wet - this is the winner. Anything smaller or cheaper is going to sound cheap (like the Hydra Photive). Anything bigger (like the other UE speakers) will sound bigger, but cost much more and be harder to pack. Plus most big speakers seem designed to stand on end, and good luck with that happening in the great outdoors. This speaker sounds big and warm, packs easy, and straps to most anything - including your iPod if your end up using the mini-plug with a non-bluetooth device. It can even tell you in plain English how much charge you have left! I haven't tried using two of them yet, but you can pair them for stereo even without using the UE app. We like it enough to order a second one, so we'll soon find out. Typically with outdoor sound, spreading multiple speakers gives a much better distribution than turning up a single speaker too loud. So I'm going to get a second one of these and the total cost will be less than the cost of one bigger speaker.

Way Better Than Expected

I'm a grumpy older guy. I've not thrilled with the idea of buying something online that does something subjective -- like produce sound.

Like me, both of my sons love music. They're in their twenties and are often doing outdoor stuff with friends such as kayaking, fishing or hanging out on the beach. One of my sons requested a bluetooth speaker for Christmas. After a lot of online research (a LOT) and reading reviews in publications and regular people who had bought one, I decided on the UE Roll. It's waterproof and was supposed to provide very good quality sound. The reviews were so convincing that I decided to get one for myself too.

Y'know how exciting it is to be blown away by a new purchase? I was blown away. So were my sons.

The UE Roll produces an amazing field of sound, with very rich bass notes and good quality high tones. Obviously this speaker is not meant to replace 3-foot tall stereo equipment. But if you drop your $4,000 stereo speaker into water, like I did with the UE Roll just to see what would happen, you'd be out $4,000 in silence and probably electrocuted.

There are cool features such as the free App which comes with it. I haven't used it since the first day it arrived, but maybe you'll use it. The UE Roll supposedly can be paired with another one to make an even richer sound field ... but since both of my sons live in cities far away, I can't verify that it works. Based on my UE Roll exceeded my expectations in every way, I'm sure that it would work just fine.

The speaker isn't heavy at all, but has that certain solid heft of quality. It isn't made cheaply. I'm sure it could take some abuse.

This grumpy old guy has the UE Roll hanging on the shower faucet. Aerosmith blasting at you when you shampoo really makes you start your day with a boost!

Six star rating. Get one. Get two. Hey ... I just realized that if I get myself another one, I could have stereo tunes in my shower ... hmmmm.

Best wearable speaker for your dollar!

I have owned two of these speakers and believe that between the quality of the sound and the fact that it doesn't swing or stick out excessively while worn that, at the under $100 price point this is the only real option if you need to wear your music. I owned my first one for nearly 3 years, i frequently smashed it into things and dropped it several times. It looked and performed like day one up until it was stolen. I will recomend and use this speaker as long as they can be found.

Is a boom

I like that I can use it everywhere. The sound and the battery is better I havent had any problem with the sound I just want to have something to take and go and this is best in price and portability I love the brand and the sound that came from this speakers. I also convince my mother and father to purchase two more speakers so now they have their speaker all around the house. Is bad because I need to set my headphones on to not listen to them all around the house.

Piece of...

Broke in less than two months. None of the buttons work. The power light never shuts off. Case is cracking along the edge.

This blue one was a gift. I have a pink one and have had it for over a year and no problems. This one bought from 'The Corner Store' through Amazon is total crap. I'm wondering if I didn't get some duped item.

Bass is pretty bad on these...and I'm not a huge bass guy, but it's very noticeably bad. Depending on the song, you can find decent bass, but it's really not a great sound. I like the idea of the pairing feature where you can link two of these up for surround sound.

I have a feeling if this came out 5-7 years ago, it would've been a huge hit. These days, bluetooth speakers sound really, really good from makers like Anker; it's getting harder to compete, and this UE ROLL shows that. In the end, it's "decent", but nothing stupendous at all.

I returned mine.

Love, love, love this speaker! My fiance bought it for me for my birthday and I have already used it a dozen times. We used to have something similar to this that we bought at Five Below, but obviously this is 100 times better quality. The speaker itself is SO loud and the music is so clear no matter how much you turn up the volume. We take it on hikes with us, I use it while I'm in the shower, and I take it to parks when I want some music while I'm working on my hula hooping. It's lightweight, compact, very good quality, and the batteries last a really long time. SO happy with this purchase. Definitely a winner.

I love this little speaker

I love this little speaker! I have a NYNE Bass speaker for parties at the pool, beach, and wherever else. This speaker is better for mobility reasons. While it doesnt provide a ton of bass, it can get pretty loud! I like how you can turn it on and connect just by using the app. I think all bluetooth speakers should work like this. There are also settings where you can daisy chain another UE Roll speaker to create a surround sound effect. The flap that covers the charge port and headphone jack seems inadequate but after reading reviews online I found that the ports are in fact, waterproof!

Great portable speaker

This is really a unique take on a bluetooth speaker, but I love it. The sound quality is good, the charge lasts for quite a while, and it easily pairs with my Android phone. Best of all is the bungee cord that lets me hang this speaker in all sorts of places. It took me a while to realize the "design" on the front of the speaker was actually two buttons: volume up and down. I believe this speaker is also supposed to be waterproof, although I have not tested that feature yet.

I feel this is a little expensive for a bluetooth speaker, but the extra features are a huge bonus over other models.
