Great product
by David Greene (4 out of 5 stars)

Recently I received a Elgato's Eve as a gift to monitor the temperature and humidity of my wine cellar. The product has a simple but elegant white design. The setup was every easy and intuitive using Apple's HomeKit and the Eve app. You insert three batteries then use Bluetooth to pair the device. There are no buttons to push. Within minutes I could view accurately trended data on my iPhone and even ask Siri to report the readings. I was surprised to learn that Eve has a sensor that will pickup contaminants in the air from paint or cleaning products in the wine cellar.

The Eve app however has a few limitations. First, you can not receive push notifications but that is due to a limitation in the iOS/HomeKit today. Also, when I updated my iPhone to the new 6S model the data was lost and I needed to setup the device again. If the next software update fixes these issues I will buy several more intelligent Eve devices to link other areas of my home.

Quickly failed and became unusable.

I purchased one of these through Amazon last November. After a few months, it started to act 'wonky', My humidity was being reported as 657% and the temperature was vacillating between -52 and +250 degrees. I followed the support document which said to remove the batteries for 15 sec then and put them back in. This didn't help. So, I did a reset of the device. This didn't help. I removed it from my HomeKit and re-added it. This didn't help. I contacted Elgato support. This didn't exist. In short, the device became unusable and no amount of resetting it would help and I could get no support from the company to assist me.

I'll add that I am an engineer so I generally do pretty well with devices like this, but it appears this device is a dud, and I cannot really recommend it.

Passive Sensor Technology - No Push Notifications, No Remote Access
by A. Hall (2 out of 5 stars)

This device is pretty cool, but it has some feature flaws that really prevent it from being an awesome product. I bought three of them, and in hindsight, I would go with a different system for my homeautomation/monitoring needs.

Cons:
-It connects to iOS devices ONLY.
-It can ONLY connect to one phone at a time.
-You can not check the temp/humidity/VOC unless you are near the device. These work on Bluetooth, and generally that is a ~30ft radius. Add some walls, and you find yourself walking throughout the house just to check the data on each device.
-Just to reiterate, you CANNOT remotely check on the status of your house.
-The data is a pull system only. The Eve Room will NEVER send updates to your phone. There could be a leak in the basement, causing the humidity to go up, but if I don't manually open the app and check the humidity for the basement, I would never know (aside from going down there). -You CANNOT program triggers (if X room falls below 50 degrees, start the heat, etc.).

Pros:
-Easy to setup
-App is one of the first Homekit enabled apps. (Siri just told me the temperature in the Attic is 63.4º). It integrates with other products from the app, like my Hue lighting.
-The device is small, and subtle. I bought three and put them on different floors of the house. It took my wife weeks before she found even one of the devices.
-Measures air quality (without a breakdown of different factors). I've noticed it to be incredibly accurate at detecting changes. The charts always tick when we cook or when we have lots of visitors over (increase in CO2)

UPDATE:
-It continues to frustrate me that not only do I need to OPEN the app in order for the app to update Temp/Humidity/Quality, I have to click on each individual device to load their stats. Even with the app open, the app does not query all the devices. This seems like a huge flaw to me. If I open the app, don't you think I'm going to look for that information?
-One of my devices just returned a low battery notification. I've owned it for less than 3 months. This is advertised as a "long lasting battery". You could potentially spend $16/yr just keeping these devices on.

So far it seems like a great way to measure Humidity
by Thomas E Whitworth (4 out of 5 stars)

I have been using the product for a few months now. So far it seems like a great way to measure Humidity, temperature, and Air Quality. We've had it in our kitchen as it's far away from our thermostat and tends to get much colder during the winter months. We wanted to test the difference between the rooms to see if we needed to make some updates to our heating system. The historical data is great, and after one month, we ended up adding an inline fan to the ductwork to force more air into the kitchen. A great addition would be to have the ability so that when it gets below a certain temperature, the fan would kick on to force more air into the kitchen space.

As to air quality, it seems to stay pretty constant, so I'm guessing that is a good thing. I haven't tested it in the basement, but I plan on taking it down there or possibly even getting another so we can monitor multiple rooms at the same time. The app itself is pretty basic, but also very user friendly. The next step is adding a thermostat that syncs with the Homekit technology so we can make thermostat adjustments right from the smartphone. I can see the eve being great for something like a wine cellar or meat room.

It's okay...but that's it.

I'm not sure if it's the app, the homekit technology or what, but it's kind of annoying when even background refresh is allowed the user has to manually refresh the app to get it to load historical data for the charting/longer term viewing. Other than that it works well.

The ecosystem seems to be overpriced compared to its value: At $75 for a room thermometer and $50 for a switch, it's too cost prohibitive to do too much with the technology.

Do Not Buy Unless You Doubt My Review
by Nóel Cheok (2 out of 5 stars)

The conceptual idea of this product is good but it fails in execution. Having used this for 3 months before I decided to publish a review to ensure it was made hastily, I would like to keep potential buyers informed before making this purchase.

This review is matched and identical with the Wireless Outdoor Sensor which I bought and used as a pair for the full duration.

The biggest weakness of this product is that it uses batteries, which means they do not last very long, you need to continually replace batteries and they are not on "always on". I had lost connectivity a few times and has to figure out how to hard reset and repair with intuitive app and no instructions either in the app or on Elago website.

When it works, you need to at least open the app once a day so it downloads all the data from the past 24 hours helping it map and trend the statistics the device is meant to capture. That process takes an extremely long time because of bluetooth connectivity, in practicality, nobody is going to sit around and wait for more than a few seconds to get the information needed.

And when the battery is low or flat, there is no pre-notification indicating a fresh set of batteries is required. Instead, you need to replace and possibly reset and repair everything again. This is not a process I am not interested in repeating once every few months, coupled with long wait times to pull the data whenever I use the app and poor intuitive app interface, this product only looks good in concept. I will comfortably assume the door sensors will not perform anywhere in real-time to provide any real notifications.

With the type of readings provided, I have plenty of other IOT products in the house (Canary and LEEO) that can provide these seamlessly, quickly and most importantly, permanently powered and accessible anywhere in the world.

I wouldn't say I hate it but I definitely learned something from buying these Homekit products. By the way, I send this product straight to the trash as I write this off as a failed product and important experience learnt.

I love this little thing

I love this little thing. It works well with Apple's HomeKit and tells me the temp., humidity, and air quality. I keep it in my bedroom and can get a reading from my living room, so I would say the bluetooth works well. Battery usage is about typical, I assume. I don't have anything to really compare that to so you may have a different opinion there. All in all, I say it works great!

Air Quality + Indoor Humidity
by Joe Ljevon (5 out of 5 stars)
September 26, 2016

Bought this over a year ago and after a year of great use I figured I'd rate the product. Checking the Eve App is a daily ritual for us, we love the opportunity to easily see the air quality and indoor humidity, both current and historically. I'm giving it 5 stars because it does exactly what we wanted it to. Battery life could be better, but overall we are very satisfied.

STAY AWAY FROM THESE PRODUCTS!!!
by SnS (1 out of 5 stars)

UPDATED REVIEW: upon the newest firmware update and iOS update all 5 of my Eve devices DO NOT WORK, tech support is a joke and the bluetooth and wifi (both having to be enabled for this junk to work) do NOT trigger the devices in a consistent manner.

STAY AWAY!

DO NOT PURCHASE EVE ROOM - A TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY!!
by KillJoy (1 out of 5 stars)
May 25, 2017

I've had this device for about a year and it is a total piece of junk. It would work fine until the batteries died and then I would need to delete it from my network/eve app and re-add it. In February the batteries died and I went through the ritual of trying to delete/re-add and I could never see it again. Do NOT purchase this product it is a total waste of money!
