First time Amazon disappoints.
by Patrick Holewinski (1 out of 5 stars)

Never had a bad experience until now. The Fire stick didn't work. Called service and talked to a rep who was hard to understand and it sounded like a party going on in the background. Finally, after a long time on the phone, he came to the conclusion that it didn't work. He told me to box it up and send it back to be fixed. I put everything back in the original box and sent it out. I recieved a email saying it was being sent back. I got the stick today. Just the stick. No remote. No cords. No nothing. Just the stick.

I have always bragged to people about Amazons service, but I feel it's taken a step backwards lately. Maybe they just got to big and can't handle it. Getting help from someone you can understand and knows what they are talking about is getting harder.

Amazon has issued me a credit to get another one. I will update this further when I get the new one. I just hope that service, not just pricing, has put them where they are.

Great Product for Tech Troubled Seniors
by Jojo L. (5 out of 5 stars)
January 24, 2018

I bought this Fire TV Stick for my 85 year old grandmother who has trouble navigating through technology. I knew that this device would be helpful because instead of navigating through the apps (which is a foreign concept to her) she is able to ask Alexa directly to play her shows.

Pros:
- Easy to set up. I set this up in my Grandmother's rehabilitation center while she was recovering from a broken hip. I plugged into her TV and paired with the Rehab Center's free Wifi. No problem!
-Grandma is easily able to ask Alexa to play 'This is Us' - her favorite show! It was difficult for her to understand at first that she would need to navigate to Hulu and then open 'This is Us.' The major benefit of having Alexa is that she can easily ask for a specific show (ie: "Alexa, play the most recent episode of 'Modern Family'" or "Play 'Queer Eye'") without having to know which app to go to.
-She also asks Alexa what the weather is or to play some Frank Sinatra or Michael Buble.

Cons:
- Grandma had trouble understanding the button meanings, but I explained them to her and she jotted them down for reference. I believe she is grasping it now. The limited amount of buttons is actually ideal and less confusing.
- She did have a bit of difficulty toggling between live TV and the Firestick (HDMI1 vs. TV) but practicing or writing down for reference is helpful.

Overall, very happy with this product for my Grandmother. Apps, Streaming services, etc, are difficult for her to understand. However, this userinterface was fairly simple and only took a day or so for her to grasp. Plus I love that she likes to ask "Alexis" instead of "Alexa." Pretty cute.

Great device! I bought this fire stick and voice remote along with an add-on remote called SofaBaton. These two work great together! Both fire stick and SofaBaton remote are easy to set up. Now I am able to stream anything from the stick and don't have to switch between several remotes to turn on tv and sound bar. Glad I bought them together! These two are highly recommended set!!

Fire Stick Sucks (literally.)
by Anastasia S. (1 out of 5 stars)
August 10, 2018

So, my Fire Stick died tonight. I came on here to check my purchase date - Dec. 15, 2017. I'm not really even sad about this. I have actually fantasized about the day this happens, so that I can replace the dreaded device with a Roku (of which I also own one unit.)

Just a few things that led me to despise the Fire Stick:
-It constantly downloads, even when you're not using it. There isn't a way to turn this feature off, so if you're like me and your internet isn't the greatest, it'll suck and suck and suck your bandwith. We have to unplug the dang thing when we play online games, because it will literally drive our ping up into the 1000s. Unplug the Stick, ping back down to 20. Hm.
- It's been buggy and sluggish since day one. The voice remote sometimes responds right away, sometimes pushing it will make the Stick crash. Netflix constantly crashes. Sometimes it takes over 5 mins to boot up the device. What a fun surprise!
- The remote randomly unpairs itself from the Stick. This is a real pain.
- They did away with the YouTube app, and they don't support Crunchyroll.

In short, I won't be shedding any tears for this thing. I'll have the husband dig a shallow, unmarked grave in the backyard by the moonlight and cut my losses.

Normally I love your stuff, Amazon, but this one was a real bummer.

Kick cable to the curb!
by Grumbo (5 out of 5 stars)
January 18, 2018

My cable bill was north of $200 a month and i started realizing i could not for the life of me figure out why i was still paying this much. After picking up a couple of these Fire TV Sticks I kicked the cable company to the side, picked up a TV tuner, and turned my home computer into a Plex Media Server. I now get over 100 HD channels, with DVR capabilities completely free, and the best part? I can stream it to any TV in the house and it is all thanks to these little Fire Sticks. Besides my own media I am an Amazon Prime member which means hundreds of TV's and Movies can also be directly streamed through this little Fire TV stick, as well as Hulu/Netflix if you are a paying subscriber to those as well.

That's essentially a small car payment i am saving myself every month and it is made entirely possible by these little Fire TV Sticks. I highly recommend you look into cutting the cord and switching to in home streaming!

What I once thought was silly is now a good thing!
by Amazon Customer (5 out of 5 stars)
November 13, 2016

Earlier this month, my TV entertainment included Dish 200+ channel satellite TV, 20Mbps turbo internet, Netflix, and Amazon Prime. After doing some research, I bought 3 Amazon Fire Sticks with the voice remote, cancelled Dish, upgraded to 30Mbps internet, added Sling 25 channels, added standard Hulu, and CBS All Access. Guess who still gets 96+% of the channels watched, added Prime Music and several hundred shows (that networks don't play) to all the TVs in the house, and saved over $700 per year compared to what I paid this past year? I did. I never thought of "cutting the cord" until I really looked into it all. Getting Amazon Fire Sticks are worth it and they work well....and once you get used to knowing what show plays where, it's a no-brainer. Just like how you originally had to figure out how to use a smart phone back in the day. After a while, it's a breeze. I highly recommend everything I listed in this review. Seriously....take a couple hours and make a spread-sheet listing the must-have shows that people in your household watch. Then make a comparison to what's available on the streaming services. If you're like me, and you don't watch 80% of the channels you pay for, it's so worth it.

What's there not to like?? The future of television technology.
by Gonzo64 (5 out of 5 stars)

What can I say?? Amazon is taking over! I just love my Amazon products. I now have a fire stick on every televisions I own. I also have given them as gifts. The set up is seemless if you already have an Amazon account. As soon as I plugged it in, it started and transferred my account to it without having to re entering all my information on every one I install. The voice remote is something I can't do without.l either. All my old fire sticks are being replaced in my home due to wanting the voice activation. It is great for elderly peeps. Just say what you want to watch and it will find it for you. Another option I love, is the ability to add your Apps that need subscriptions. Such as Showtime, HBO, Gaia, etc. the fire stick allows you to order the subscription and charge your amazon account instead of having to log into each app individually.

It was becoming a real pain to have different app accounts and all of them having your credit information. This way Amazon makes it so simple to add and delete apps all on Amazon. Billing is simple with everything on Amazon charged to whatever payment options you have on file. I got rid of all my Apple TV and Roku for this very reason. No more codes to enter. You can't go wrong with the fire stick. It's an everything in one unit device. I order my Amazon items from the fire stick also. For friends and family, I will keep buying them as gifts. Also, they are linked to all your amazon products that are linked to your account, like show, echo, etc

For the money, you can't beat it. I have been without cable now for five years and I only put the apps that have the programs I like to watch. It's really cheaper than cable/satellite hands down. And everything on cable you can access using their Apps. Thanks Amazon for such great products. There are too many good things to mention. One more thing to mention, the Bluetooth capability is awesome too. I connect my headphones at night to allow my spouse to sleep without noise from the tv. The only thing i would suggest is having the power cord longer. It's hard to plug in if your outlet is more than four feet away. It also uses the HDMI port to connect to the tv or laptop. The size makes it nice to pack and take on vacation or business trips. It would be nice if it can be powered by batteries. Thanks again Amazon!!

Firestick Replaced Our Cable Box/Tivo
by walesgirl (5 out of 5 stars)
April 24, 2018

We are loving the Firestick! We have cut the cord and are streaming all content on the Firestick. We have so much to watch! We have access to Amazon Prime videos, Amazon channels that we love, Acorn TV, Masterpiece, and Brit Box, Netflix and Hulu with live TV. This change over has been very easy. It's definitely different than the traditional cable package and regular TV guide, but I am learning to prefer how much more control and choice I feel like I have. And we are saving $80/month by dropping cable and using the streaming content apps listed above.

Installation and setup was extremely easy.

A nice surprise was learning that the Firestick has an app for Mozilla Firefox and that we can also view our favorite websites on the tv from our Firestick. We are very happy with this product and immediately bought and installed a second fire stick for another room! And we can easily bring the Firestick on vacation and connect to all our streaming content/apps as long as we have WiFi and a HDMI tv connection. It's been a great experience!

Updated: No go. Stick to Roku. If you're wondering, it IS the Firestick causing your problems.
by TruthInFact (1 out of 5 stars)
June 11, 2018

I LOVE Amazon, but they have utterly failed on this one. Can't start up video (It's taking longer than expected, you patience is most appreciated), out of sync sound/video. Don't waste your money on this garbage. Go with Roku. I haven't had any connectivity issues at all. Will be going solid Roku in the house. I'll buy it off Amazon, but what an incredibly HUGE disappointment. DO NOT buy this. I repeat, DO NOT buy this. It is a completely frustratingly awful waste of money.

Roku in the same house runs circles around this little paper weight.

Update: Amazon contacted me to see if they could help with any of the technical issues. That is the amazing part of Amazon. They are awesome! Unfortunately, this device is still a paperweight. If you are debating on this or Roku... go with Roku. You won't know if it is your TV, your projector, your sound system, your cable, the buffer... but no worries. Get a Roku and it all disappears and you only have to worry about what to watch. I have since bought another Roku and all the problems went away. I was looking at the Amazon cube... but I'm pretty sure I'll stick to ordering working devices on their incredible site. They just need to jump out of the streaming hardware business.

Highly recommended!

The Amazon Fire Stick is an amazing device. Television services are moving away from cable and satellite and are moving toward internet based streaming formats. These internet based services work from apps (software packets) and the AFS (Amazon Fire Stick) provides you with these apps. In fact, it provides you with every kind of app you can think of and the AFS does it at an affordable price.

The AFS plugs into the HDMI jack on your television and also comes with a power adapter that plugs into the wall. The AFS is controlled by a remote control that comes with the device. In order to receive signals, the AFS requires WIFI or a local hot spot with speed requirements of around 5 Mbps for HD broadcasts. Movies and shows displayed by the device are typically in HD quality with good picture and sound quality. It is easy to set up and use and I was up and running in minutes.

Many television channels you receive through cable or satellite services, like the History Channel for example, offer programming over the internet. In order to watch these shows on a television, you need a hardware device that converts these shows into a format the television can use (HDMI plug). It also has to be loaded with a software packet for the particular channel you want to watch. The AFS is a device that provides you with both the hardware and software needed to watch such shows and it bundles everything together nicely so it is extremely easy to use.

Shows available to watch on the AFS vary how they can be accessed for viewing. Some apps (channels) are free and they offer limited programming on demand from shows they aired in the past. Others require monthly fees. Some apps like Sling, Hulu, PlayStation Vue, etc. offer multiple channels all on the same app. PlayStation Vue (the one I signed up with) offers bundled packages of channels just like cable or satellite services and they are live broadcasts! PS Vue displays a guide with many channels to choose from and comes with a DVR recorder so programs can be recorded and watched later. The amazing thing with Vue is you can go into the guide, pick a show that was aired, say, two hours ago that you missed and watch it in its entirety! The AFS gives you the tools you need to receive such programming.

Another sweet thing about using the AFS for television viewing is no installer has to come to your house to set up your equipment and when you're finished with their service nothing has to be returned. All you need is provided by the AFS. Also, no service contracts are required and services can be cancelled at any time with no penalties.

I hope this was useful. Many of you took the time to write reviews and they were extremely helpful to me. I wanted to return the favor.
