Save your money!

I thought I'd splurge and buy a really nice cordless vac. When it first arrived, it was noisier than I thought it would be, but worked fine. After I had it for about 2 months, it stopped working. It would stay on for about a minute and then stop. I called Dyson, and they asked if I had the original box. I did, so I sent it to them. It was about a month later when they returned it (without the original box). This time it ran for a long time, but didn't have any suction. I was so disappointed, I just threw it in the closet. One day when I had time, I called again. This time they told me it wasn't under warranty any longer (even though I sent it to them when it was under warranty and they didn't fix it). They did try to troubleshoot with me, and I discovered that they sent it back without the filter on top. The dyson rep. said that was probably the original problem, but since filters weren't covered under warranty, they didn't fix it, or bother to send a new one. He was "really sorry", but the warranty was up, and they "couldn't do anything else". I said I was so disappointed with the vacuum and company, but they didn't seem sympathetic, or willing to help.

So, for almost $200.00 I got a cordless vac that worked for about 2 months!

I'm not sure where the profits of this company go. It's one of the most expensive vacuums on the market, they don't work, and they have terrible customer service! No more Dyson's for me or my family!!!

Best purchase I've made in a long time. Concerned about price...don't be, it's worth every cent!

It's sad to say, but I'm in love with a vacuum. As I've gotten older, I went from jumping around the house because I got Lego's and Supersoakers to jumping around the house when I get a new appliance or awesome gadget like this. I have a dog that sheds like crazy and no matter what I do, his hair gets everywhere. When I was reading reviews for handheld vacuums, someone said "this Dyson sucks up dirt and hair you didn't even realize was there" and I can't even tell you how true that is. It's incredible for any mess that happens.

A couple of things that I want to specifically highlight:
-I had a tough time at first trying to figure out the differences between the couple of "V6" models they have. Basically I found out, it really only differs in terms of what attachments and accessories come with it. So you can get this Car and Boat one, and it comes with all the accessories that would come in the "accessories package you can buy separately" and a few others that don't come in that. So after looking into it, it absolutely makes sense to get this because it's cheaper and comes with 2 extra accessories.
-I was concerned about the 20 minute run time. I haven't come into a situation where it wasn't enough. Don't get this if you plan on trying to use it for the entire house at once. I'd get a regular vacuum that plugs in. But for a solid clean up of hair, dirt, dust, etc. from basically anything from your house to your car or boat, this thing does the job and it does it extremely well.
-I had a cheaper Black n Decker that I always thought was a good handheld. Well you get what you pay for. That wasn't picking up even half of what this thing picks up.
-It's SO easy to use. The accessories clip or attach very quickly and easily and the little button that lets the bottom fall out so you can drop all you sucked up right in the trash can is amazing. It's a very solid and well thought out "machine".
-240 for a handheld vacuum with all accessories included...was it worth it...yes, every cent worth.

Powerful and definitely not a 'one-trick' wonder!

I am allergic to dust and cats. For my sins, I also have two cats. My cleaner visits my apartment weekly. In addition to going over the apartment, she turns my mattress over each week, changes the sheets, and vacuums my Persian rug with a conventional hoover. When I arrived home from work, I switched on my new (fully charged) V6M and got to work on my mattress, the rug and my suede leather couches. See the attached picture for the results! The V6M picked up so much more dust and other allergens then even a conventional hoover could manage!

As promised by Dyson, the V6M worked on full power for 6 minutes of usage. The back-LED light began flashing after I had used it continuously for 5 minutes. It shuts off after that to ensure you do not use it on partial battery power. Emptying the V6M was a doddle, just like any other Dyson but it was at this point I learned not to get too close to the bin as this was the only time I sneezed due to the dust emanating from the bin.

The V6M is difficult to hold, but I got used to it after a while. Dyson claim they have engineered it to become ergonomically balanced but I found it hurt my wrist after a couple of minutes. After adjusting my hand and putting less pressure on the start button, it began to become easier to hold. I wish the battery lasted longer as well. When you use the V6M on full power, it gives you the confidence that it really is sucking as much of the allergens and dust out of the mattress and other surfaces. So why would you want to use it on half power (which lasts for 20 minutes)?

All in all, it's a good piece of machinery and definitely constructed to make all of the pieces easy to 'klic' in place. I like it although the battery life and difficulty holding it made me drop one star from its rating.

Dyson V6 Mattress Cord Free Vacuum

Sold by: Carolinas
$242.95

Condition: New

I have had a problem with the device and called Dyson for support and they indicated Carolinas is NOT an authorized reseller of their products and I will have to purchase new battery because it is malfunctioning and not under warranty because the seller was not authorized. This is my third Dyson. Which I love, I keep on in every room my pets frequent.

We bought this in order to clean up small messes our toddler leaves behind after having a few snacks. Works perfectly and haven't yet come across something it couldn't pick up. This is also a great vacuum to use in a car/truck/SUV.

Great Vacuum only with "MAX" setting on, very low life battery & dusty air blowing in your face!
by Me (3 out of 5 stars)
November 23, 2018

I bought this vacuum 1.5 years ago. I have been using it at least twice to three times a week to clean around out cats' litter box, remove their fur in their cat tree and the usual quick cleaning around the house (fur balls, kitchen scraps, etc).

So far it's been very reliable as long as I keep the battery plugged in. When I first started using this vacuum, I would let the battery go empty to make sure it lasts longer. Unfortunately, after a few weeks, I noticed that I wasn't able to use the vacuum because the battery was dead after using it only a few times during the week. I usually only use it 30sec to a minute tops at a time so the battery is really not resilient. I would even say it's a really bad quality battery.

The other thing is that I only use this vacuum on the "MAX" setting otherwise it's not powerful enough and just doesn't do the job. I bet it drains the battery more and at the same time, I got a DYSON because I know they are supposed to be the most powerful vacuums out there. So that's a big disappointment too.

Also, I will say that something that bothers me a lot, since it's a "portable" vacuum, is that it is expected to be used at higher levels than a good old regular "floor" vacuum. Well everytime I use it on shelves, even lower than my face, I get that nasty dusty engine air blown in my face and it's really unpleasant. The air exhaust is in the back on the sides which is a very bad design. It should be on top so the dirty air goes up as opposed to straight to your face.

The last thing I will say is that the plug is disproportionally big and takes the room of 2/3 plugs on a power strip (of course the long part goes horizontally over the power strip instead of going vertically). Another bad design, I mean seriously! Do I need a cable extension for every single appliance I buy?

So, this portable vacuum is overall a big disappointment from DYSON. I thought they were better than the average company but not really. It's over priced for all those issues.

Has issues but not so bad actually

First of all, the vac didn't work right out of the box, giving out blinking amber LED. Tech support was of no help at all, trying to feed me with different sorts of BS, which I haven't bought being an electronic engineer myself. So I had to and have been able to repair it myself, happy me. The problem was a faulty temperature sensor inside the battery pack. It is initially supposed to shut down battery power when outside temperature drops below 3 degrees C. Instead of that the broken sensor was shutting down the battery at 24C. Well, now the vac works fine.

Now a couple of words about the vac itself. The suction is really powerful, especially at MAX mode. The vac is easy to operate, the overall design and attachments are great, especially I like the power brush. Battery life is 17 min. (6 min. @ MAX). Not much but you have to pay for the power, alas.

What I don't like.
- Noise level (high pitched whistle) is pretty high and uncomfy - measuring at 85dbA (90 at MAX power).
- the dust bin is pretty small, you'll want to empty it often.
- the body of the vac gets electrified because of circulating debris inside, so after a couple of minutes of operation the vac starts to attract fine sand and dust overall it's surface.
- when you empty the dust bin, dust falls down and makes a big dirty cloud. User manual recommends doing it inside a plastic bag. Even doing so, the electrified body of the vac attracts this dust cloud on itself, so you have to clean the vac from outside too. Why not make vac's plastic parts from anti-static plastic, Dyson?

All of the above being said, I still think this little beast is one of the best in terms of overall performance. All other handheld vacs available on the market clearly cannot catch up with this one.

Battery died after 6 months of light use / warranty denied because purchased on Amazon
by Ethel Patricia (1 out of 5 stars)
January 2, 2019

We bought this vacuum to clean up pet hair and touch up the cars. We purchased it new in mid-June 2018 and it arrived undamaged and in unopened retail packaging. We used it a few times a week to chase pet hair dust bunnies and touch up the cars. The documentation from Dyson packaged with the unit claims a two year warranty period.

It worked great until mid-December. Went to use it as normal and got only a blinking red light on the battery. A little internet searching indicates that the flashing red is a battery fault, but the manual says only to "contact Dyson helpline". No online help. Had trouble getting ahold of Dyson over the holidays, but finally got a callback today.

Dyson rep read through a script ostensibly to troubleshoot but it covered all of the warranty exclusions. He was clearly fishing for a reason to deny warranty coverage for a defective battery. For example, the rep asked where I used it, and I said around the house and in the cars. Rep: "where are the cars?" Me: "What do you mean? They're parked outside." Outside use is not covered. Me: "Ok, but the manual says "for domestic indoor and car use only." Rep: "Well, it was bought in 2017, so you're outside of the warranty period." Me: "It was bought in June 2018, I have the receipt, and besides, the warranty period is two years." Back-and-forth like this for a while until they found a reason I couldn't deny: bought on Amazon.

Even though the listing says "Dyson V6 Trigger - Cordless - by Dyson" with a link to the Dyson Co. Amazon seller page (https://www.amazon.com/stores/node/2590942011?_encoding=UTF8&field-lbr_brands_browse-bin=Dyson&ref_=bl_dp_s_web_2590942011) and is one of the first to come up, the seller was "unauthorized." Warranty denied.

A little internet searching shows the battery fault on the Dyson cordless is pretty common, which indicates a manufacturing defect. It is 2019: most of us have hundreds of devices with lithium-ion batteries, and they don't generally give out after only a few months of normal use.

I thought it was a quality brand, but I won't buy a Dyson unit again.
