Possibly The Most Perfect Cooler Ever Built.
by Cathy & Ken (5 out of 5 stars)
September 1, 2015

You've probably already read the positives; well built, sturdy, ice retention is top notch, wheels, easy drain plug, feet, handles and a trolley handle, even a bottle opener and cup holders... etc. So let me tell you a few things to be aware of that don't appear in the advertising literature.
1. This 80 quart beast is just that...wheels or not, it's a beast. Don't expect to fill it to the brim with beer, drinks and ice and just toss it into the back of your truck.
2. The design of the feet underneath is pure genius in that the cooler never rests on the wheels when it is sitting still, which means you can set it in your vehicle or boat without it rolling all over the place. With that said, the feet are set to a height that when you trolley the cooler from one place to another you have to lift it completely off the feet for the wheels to engage. When this happens the drain plug on the other end will occasionally scrape the ground causing scuff marks on the plug if you are pulling the cooler across concrete.
3. The last item is the lifetime warranty. You should be aware that this basically covers just the box. That's it. The gasket, the drain plug, the feet, the latches...pretty much any thing that could actually go wrong with this cooler is NOT COVERED.

With those things said, this is still BY FAR the best cooler I have ever owned and even though it's a little pricey. It has been well worth the money.

PELICAN FOR LIFE
by Christopher J. (5 out of 5 stars)

ACCIDENTAL TEST.... so, I sort of did my own "unplanned" test of the pelican this weekend. I recieved my 45qt Wheeled Pelican on Friday, and was invited to a friend's house to watch College Football on Sat afternoon. Obviously, I wanted to take my new cooler for a test run, and to show it off; and show it off I did. EVERYONE was immediately impressed by it's size, ruggedness, design and overall quality. People were climbing on it, to show the durability, lifting the lid and letting it "slam shut", and continually opting to use the bottle opener on the cooler, just out of sheer enjoyment of using a bottle opener installed on a cooler, as part of the design. I went to the party, with 18 assorted beers (bottle and can), as well as my own aluminum tray, to put some limes and dip, to keep them out of the ice; and dumped a single 10lb bag. The lid on the cooler was lifted at least 25 times, both to get the beer, and at times when I would hear, "Hey! Listen to how this thing closes!!!"... After getting home from a late Sat night/Sun morning, I left the cooler in the back of my truck, thinking, "I'll get that in the morning".............. I completely forgot about it, went on to do some yard work yesterday/Sunday, and around 2pm thought, "I need a cold beer... OH CRAP!!!! I left the cooler in the back of the truck!!"..... To help understand clearly why I thought this was bad, my truckbed (being all black and having a black tonneau cover) gets up to likely around 150-175F, if not more... it was so hot, when I pulled the cooler out of the back of the truck, the handle was hot enough I had to pull my hand back the first time....... yeah - it was that hot - it may as well been an oven. So, I wheeled the cooler to the back yard, and set it on my patio, took a deep breath and opened the lid............. HOLY CRAP!!! There's still ice in there!!!! Was there also water? Yes, about 1-2qts, but there was still at least 2.5-3lbs of ice floating, from what was initially a 10lb bag. I decided to test further, and leave the cooler sitting on the concrete patio, IN THE SUN, for the rest of the day, and overnight. Just went to open the cooler (Monday mid-day) and check if any ice was left (this is 12pm in Florida), and there's STILL ICE. Mind you, after all of that, and opening/closing yesterday, it lost quite a bit, but there's enough ice in there to fill a 32oz Big Gulp cup! While they advertise 10day ice hold (under normal conditions), I'd say my HARSH conditions of heat and use over 2.5 days would be significant. I'm excited to test it "properly", under normal conditions, but had to share my story. I'm sold, and a forever fan of Pelican coolers!!!

Is a little bulky, but it keeps items cold as described. I have also used it to keep food hot. I highly recommend that you also purchase the Winco 1/2 Size Pan 2 1/2" to set inside the lip of cooler. It works awesome to hold utensils, spices or items you want to keep out of the ice.

Awesome cooler!

Awesome cooler! This was able to keep water and Gatorade cool for 3 days in 100 degree heat with a dozen people getting in it constantly. The hinges are stainless steel instead of the aluminum or plastic that other companies use. The freezer grade gasket seals it off very well, enough to be air tight. The latches are very sturdy but also easy to get into.

The carry handles are very well thought out, especially the one used for the wheels. As shown in the picture, it does not go all the way up which keeps the cooler off of your heels when walking with it. The wheels also do not engage until you lift it with the handle so it does not go rolling around your truck or down a hill.

I love the cooler
by Jim (5 out of 5 stars)

I just bought this Pelican 80QT cooler with the wheels. I love the cooler. After searching for a steam pan that would fit, I could not find any info for the 80QT cooler. It's rim inside is 13 inches wide with a .5 inch lip on each side. The internal opening is 12 inches. The 1/3 size Winco steam pans will not fit. After a lot of searching I found and bought the following pan. It is 12 7/8 inches when turned sideways. I bought the 6" pan and the 4" pan to go above the wheels and it fits perfectly. I could not find the 2/3 size pan on amazon so bought else where. Note the 2/3 size Winco says they are 13" wide, so I did not buy this brand. the browne brand is 12 7/8" wide and works great. Check out the pictures.

I've used this for day-long trips, and of course ...

I've used this for day-long trips, and of course, it kept things cold. But I recently got a chance to test it on a camping trip, and it passed with flying colors. Even without filling it completely with ice, it kept things cold my entire four-day trip and still retained ice when I got home. The wheels help tremendously due to the heavy weight, and it's tough enough to drag over jagged rocks.

The positive impacts of having the cooler:
1) confidence that the ice will last at least 4 days and your food won't spoil
2) avoiding the hassle of getting more ice to fill it in the middle of a 4-day trip
3) using the four tie-down points with ropes/straps to turn the cooler into a makeshift dolly for heavy items (I've strapped camp chairs and a folding camp table to the top)

The negatives:
1) Heavy (37 pounds when EMPTY). If you do it alone, you'll need to do a powerlift to put it in the back of the car/truck.
2) When making a DIY dolly (see above), the handle doesn't lock in place. It will not move past horizontal, but if the weight of the "dolly" tips past balance point, you can't use the handle as a lever. I had to cut a block of wood on the tablesaw and used it to jam behind the handle, thus creating a removable handle "lock block", where the handle locks in the horizontal position.

The best wheeled cooler
by Michael Cunningham (5 out of 5 stars)

Fantastic cooler. I have been waiting for years for Yeti to make a cooler like this with wheels only to be disappointed year after year. I saw this one a few week ago and purchased it after reading the reviews. This is quite possibly the best cooler in existence. I've used it twice now for outdoor events around my pool. It is in the sun all day, 90-95 degrees down on the Gulf of Mexico this time of year and has performed amazingly. This thing still has ice left in it today (9/8) after an event on 9/3/16 at my house for which I put the ice in the cooler the day prior on 9/2. It will easily handle a week of keeping things ice cold no matter the weather. I could not be happier and my friends with Yeti's they have to lug around are quite envious.

Great Cooler!

Love this thing! We just got back from a 12 day car trip. I loaded up 10 frozen pre cooked meals into the cooler after I precooled it overnight. (Per Directions). All of the meals stayed frozen for 4 nights in 40-50 degree weather and inside the car. (We put the meals into a freezer on night #5.) I put a couple beers in there to drink on night #2 and they froze! We had ice for 7 days until it finally started to melt. I'd say this thing lives up to the hype IF you pre-cool it overnight first.

This cooler weighs north of 35 pounds empty, so the wheels and beefy handle make hauling this thing to and from the truck pretty easy. (Brace yourself when lifting it full of food and ice!). The Pelican has easy to operate lid latches, compared to those other brands with the stretchy rubber latches, even with gloves on! The molded-in handles beat the Sasquatch brand too. I would buy it again!

Last summer I drove across country to relocate from the SF Bay Area to New England. Daily temperatures ranged from 70-102 degrees F. I used this cooler along with 2 Arctic Ice 5lb reusable Ice packs (and later in the trip bagged ice) to keep sandwiches, snacks and drinks cool for easy access during the trip (In my '02 Toyota Tundra this just fits on the rear access cab seat behind one seat). I'm happy to say the cooler worked great for this use and kept things cold. As with all of these style coolers, it's not exactly light weight, but the wheels and handle made it easy to pull the cooler in with us to hotels or wherever we were staying. Now settled in my new home, I can't wait to take this on my next camping trips!

Well Built.....
by Gabriel F Guaciaro (5 out of 5 stars)

Extremely well built cooler! This will probably be the last cooler I ever buy, as long as it's cleaned on a regular basis. This thing is a tank and holds quite a bit, even with it's thickly insulated walls. Warning though, that insulation comes with a price; This thing weighs a ton! That being said, it is a well built and nicely thought out cooler. All the hardware is heavy duty and with the non skid feet, it doesn't move around in the back of my pick up truck. The drain is also well thought out, having a sloped area to drain out the water but not the ice. I'm glad I was able to find it on an Amazon "warehouse" deal, which save me quite a bit of money, as these types of super coolers can get very expensive.
