Very Impactful for Updated Kitchen and Unlimited "Scenes" and "Routines" You Can Create

We updated the kitchen this summer and I replaced the flourescent undermount cabinet lights with these. In addition, I installed them above the cabinets, inside the corner glass cabinet, behind the rangetop, and under inside the island so it would glow through the marble. It ended up costing half what a 3rd party estimated to "install basic LED under cabinet lighting" and delivers much more. The lights can be easily set to create different "scenes" through the app where it can be simple whites or set like a sunset (where each LED strip has a different color of the scene) or even slight flickering like candlelight. Or we even changed it to "batman"-like colors for my son's 5th birthday. In addition, we've created schedules so that they change to nightlight late in the evening, then slowly "waken" in the morning, then shut off automatically during the daytime. While there are some opportunities for improvement involving the Hue App (eg ability to delete scenes), those things are minor and will likely be improved through app updates. The installation itself was not difficult and connectivity to the Hue hub was extremely easy and responsive.

Pretty awesome! Only reason it isn't perfect is because the adhesive kinda sucks tbh. Other than that this thing is cool especially with 3rd party software. Wish the lights stayed the same color you set then to last, when you turn them on. Phillips hue needs some software work for pc/TV integration like they advertise. Other than that it's a great addiction to the home entertainment system.

Update::

All of a sudden the first quarter of the light strip stays a different color that on the rest. It's annoying and It makes me not want to use them. What do I do?

Great product but so expensive like all other Hue Products. I have 32 Hue lamps and switches and they all have to connect to the same bridge, starting find that no matter where I place the bridge there are lights somewhere in the house that are too far to work. Don't believe the Phillips bull that all the lights daisy chain, they tell you that the more lights you have the better the system works, absolute rubbish (spent hours on the the phone with support) who tells me I have to many bulbs too far away from the bridge (my house is only 1750 sq ft ) Hue needs to find a way to add more than one bridge to the same home network.

Purchased 2 of these in Nov 2017 for $49. Prime day '18 listed them for $64 so I will hold out for a better discount price. Product is great if you're into Hue products. There are some decent apps that allow you sync music in your home or create moods you like.

I am a totaly Phillips Hue junky so I want to caveat this review with that message upfront! We have around 30 or so Phillips Hue products in our house as I was recommended them when I started looking to make my home a smart home. We use the Google Home products to run all our Hue bulbs, lamps and now LightStrip. I have been using the Hue LightStrip for 4 months now and overall am satisfied. The setup was super easy and we decided to put it on the back of our 56" LG TV and it looks amazing. The fit was perfect and the glow it gives off (even in the daytime) is awesome! The lights respond to the application super fast or my voice commands through our Google products so well.

The negatives are what brought my rating down. After just 3 months the 3M sticky backing has worn off in two places and I have had to resort to tape to keep it up. That is unfortunate but maybe because of the way I had to set it up on my TV. These light strips do not have the ability to change directions especially at an angle of a TV. So I had to improvise which is probably why there is a problem. Nonetheless, it is annoying! The other problem is the price... Yes, I understand it is wi-fi enabled and that is awesome. But to pay over $80 for this is a lot for a lightstrip. All in I would probably buy another one or two of these but only use them in special applications where I know they would work. For example, behind my master bedroom headboard which is super long and there is no need to create angles.

These Hue LightStrip Plus strips have a newer version. Philips changed the power system design. And 2 of 3 of my ordered products have a high pitch buzz noise issue once adjusting the brightness above 20%. When I talk to Philips CS, they suggest me go through Amazon. I am wondering what will happen after passing the return window.

Product seems to work fine, but the one I received from Amaxon has a gew very significant design differences from the photos here.

According to the photos the actual light strip is separate from the vonnector to the controller. And the connector plugs into the controller. This gives you the ability to use splitters and other third party adapters a the controller.

Well, the one I received isn't like that. The lightstrip, connector and controller are all permanently attached to each other. This design change is not mentioned anywhere and really limits your options.

I will have to order another lightstrip to get it to work with my kitchen. Hmm, do you think that is what they had in mind?

Great lights with flaws.

I will start by saying that I do love these lights. However for the premium price, the color variance between strips is horrendous in my opinion. I have much cheaper LED light sets that have the exact same color output from strip to strip.

This is one 6ft strip attached to one 40" extension. The power adapter is at the bottom of the stairs, attached to the 6ft strip.

I noticed the problem when my wife asked Google Home to set the lights to "Pink". Shades of pink/purple and blue are when most noticeable, as you can see in the pictures. If this were and issue only when using the app, this wold be less of a problem for me. However I have the Echo and Google Home to set my lights to the colors mentioned.

It would seem the white LEDs are much more dominate on the 6ft section. I much prefer the output of the extension (left in the picture). I may contact philips and see what they have to say if anything. I will update if I do.

As of now I have only docked one star, as I do plan on getting more strips and hope this issue can be eliminated with another strand of lights with similar light output.

I have over 20 Hue lights of different varieties throughout my apartment and I love Hue a lot, but the LightStrip Plus really comes up short for me compared to their primary competitor, LIFX. I first bought the Hue strip to light up the wall behind my couch. It does an adequate job of doing so, but it isn't exactly the brightest light strip on the market. It's also hampered by the fact that the entire strip can only be one color at a time. Compare this to the LIFX Z strip which is superior in almost every way to the Hue strip. The same 2m of length on the LIFX strip is divided into 16 different zones, and can each be set to a different color. This allows you to create beautiful gradient light patterns and the ability to build scenes within the light strip itself. You can even animate them and have the different colors move across the strip, among other things. Not to mention the fact that the LIFX strips are much brighter with richer colors than the Hue strips. I was hesitant to buy the LIFX strip at first given that my setup is all Hue, but I'm so glad I did. I have since bought 4 of the LIFX Z strips. Integrating them into my existing Hue scenes is really easy using the Routines feature of the Amazon Alexa app. With both products retailing for $89.99, it was a no-brainer going with the LIFX strip that can do SO much more. Given that both of these products come at such a premium price, I can't recommend the Hue LightStrips that can only do a fraction of what the LIFX strips can. That's not to say that the Hue strips won't get the job done. Depending on what you are using them for, they may be all you need to achieve the look you are going for. I can see the Hue strips working well for under cabinet lighting, or for lighting above crown molding, or under a bed, etc. But if multiple colors and animations are what you are looking for to REALLY kick your ambience up to the next level, then it's got to be LIFX all the way.

As for the poor quality of the adhesive backing that most people complain about... I can confirm that both the Hue strips and the LIFX strips are equally lousy when it comes to the sticking power of the adhesive. So while that won't help you, it's a wash when comparing the products head-to-head. You should go into your project with the expectation that you'll need to spend a little extra money on a better mounting solution. I bought some cheap but excellent LED light channels here on Amazon that have made mounting a breeze and just advoided the adhesive backing all together.

Eh. Could be better

I'm not sure why Phillips decided to only allow cutaway every 13 inches. This is a horrible design. Most of the cheap ones let you cut every led. They are pricey for what they are. Color wise they are good. But I would not buy them again. Instead I've purchased a Dresden ballast and a cheaper set of leds that can be cut at smaller sizes.

Price was not really a factor, it was more the 13 inch limitation they impose.

But for 70$ you get 3x the length of phillips and the Dresden ballast allows you to turn it into a smart device.

This would have cost ~160$ for the same length using Hue + extensions.
