The lenses project an amazingly accurate sky with 60,000 stars onto the ceiling or wall. Rotational movement is possible. Two interchangeable projection discs with the stars of the northern hemisphere allow you to observe the night sky as it is visible to us. With the "shooting star" function you can even dream beyond! Projection angle and focus are adjustable and a convenient timer is used to automatically turn it off.

The Homestar series was designed by the Japanese inventor Takayuki Ohira, a recognized expert for professional planetariums. The other positive reviews played a big part in my purchase. Very disappointed in the product and the other reviewers. This thing shows fake looking stars grouped into a fake looking pattern that doesn't look like any night sky I've ever seen. One review stated that holes poked into cardboard could provide similar looking stars and I agree. As far as the "shooting star" function goes; when I saw it the first time it pretty much finalized my decision to get my money back. The shooting star is just this little square shaped electronic door which opens that briefly shines over the stars... other lights within the unit shine through the walls of the compartment at the same time so it's about the same effect as turning on a cheap flashlight and calling that a shooting star. Another thing which the Q&A as well as the reviewers did NOT do justice to, was placement. Unless you have extra high 10 foot ceilings and can place this thing in the dead center of the room the projection is not going to come out looking anywhere near right. There's a wheel you can turn to focus but any little movement sets the whole thing off and you have to redo it. Plan on spending a few minutes in the dark turning the wheel trying to put the stars into focus and then just NOT touching it again, etc. This thing is worth about $30.00 at the most as a gag, but DEFINITELY not $175.00! Lastly, the advertisement here on Amazon compared to reality of the product makes the product seem MUCH more spectacular and sophisticated than it actually is, and the company itself is disorganized and don't seem prepared or equipped to be doing business on Amazon.com. Their tracking numbers were wrong, they didn't know how to do a return, their advertisement was inaccurate.

DO NOT BUY THIS! I am outraged. This is a cheap piece of junk. Not worth the plastic it is made of. It has a small sphere of illumination with a faint, blurry sprinkle of lights that no amount of adjusting can clear. It is worthless. The company will not refund my money because I didn't return it within 3 days. I didn't know I needed to inspect it as soon as I bought it as it was a Christmas gift for my grandson and I didn't take it out of the box until last night. I don't know how it got good reviews. That must be some sort of hoax.

DO NOT BUY. This is a piece of junk. The less expensive (as of this writing) In My Room Star Theater Pro Home Planetrium & Night Light is a MUCH better product. The Sega Homestar just projects a gray smudge on the ceiling or wall. The focus feature does not improve the quality of the image. You can see the concentric circles of the disc in the projected image. I am returning.

I was scared to buy this because of some of the negative reviews, but i am glad i did. It exceeded my expectations! Just follow instructions on how to set up and you're GOLDEN! BEST VIEWED ON PERSON OR THROUGH PHOTO IT IS HARD TO CAPTURE IN CELL PHONE VIDEO

Bad reviews must have an agenda. My projector is great. Funny, I can focus mine very well. HMMM, Maybe someone can't read instructions. It is delicate however. Don't let young kids handle it and be quite careful not to look into the light. It may well be a series of laser diodes that could harm your eyes. It is so bright that even a brief exposure will dazzle you vision. Heck, its not really a toy. I loaded the northern hemisphere and it really is quite accurate. Read the instructions which specify 6 to 7 feet from the ceiling. Oh, and if you have a texture or sand finish ceiling take it to a room that doesn't. The motion is faster than reality, but what planetarium isn't. IT IS WORTH THE PRICE FOR AN ASTRONOMICALLY ACCURATE PROJECTOR.

I have never reviewed a product before on Amazon but after seeing some of the bad reviews I felt like I needed to. The thing works great! I bought it for my newborn daughter and since she was too young to really care about it, my wife and I used it for a while. It's very cool! And the stars look amazing in a dark room. The shooting star is more like a comet and only work if you turn in the rotation feature but it looks cool. Some reviews mentioned that the stars we're blurry or you could see rings on the wall. I had the same problem and thought mine was busted. You just have to keep spinning the focus ring and the rings go away and it will shapen up. My daughter is now 2 and she is blown away by it. She lays in bed saying "wow!, Dadda look! Wow!" She won't go to bed without it on now. My only issue I have with this is buying more slides is expensive.

This is the closest thing I think anyone can buy to bringing a planetarium experience into your home. The shooting star feature is a bit of a joke though and I don't even know why they bother... I wish you could get more discs for it than the few that are available... Anyway, I love putting the sleep timer on at night and going to sleep under the illusion of a starry sky. To me, the $150 was worth it. I'd pay extra for a warp speed projection that made it look like I was on the enterprise zipping through the galaxy...

This projector does come with what I believe is an excessive price tag but not when comparing to similar products for its express purpose. What I mean is, you can get a relatively good video projector for about half the price (which has superior capabilities); however, when compared to other star or planetarium projectors this one is worth the extra money.

My five year old has an intense fascination with astronomy and all things space. We got this for his birthday and every night since has been him telling us how much he loves to fall asleep looking at the nebulae.

Pro's: the unit is quiet, image quality is very nice, doesn't over-illuminate the room, and you can change things up with different projector discs.

Con's: as I've said before, I feel the unit is overprices, but not when comparing in its market, and the shooting star feature isn't very good (but the kids love it anyway).

If you're in the market for a star projector of any kind, I highly recommend springing for this one. You won't be disappointed.

Cool little product can't say that I dislike it but for the money wish it had a few more options or high definition options I figure for the technology of today it should be a push button away
