Product Description

Crystal Clear Ice:
Treat your drinks to crystal clear ice! This ice tray is designed to keep your ice crystal clear by separating opaque 'white ice' from the 'crystal clear' ice, thus removing impurities.

The concept:
The Polar Ice Tray mimics the natural formation of ice in lakes and rivers, which freeze on the surface while the water below remains unfrozen. Similarly, our unique patented ice tray has an insulated bottom so that only the surface of the water is exposed to the cold. By allowing the water to freeze from the top to bottom, layer by layer, air and impurities are compressed at the bottom. This layer of 'white' or opaque ice is then removed, leaving a block of crystal clear ice.

Features

  • MAKES A CRYSTAL CLEAR ICE SPHERE. The Clear Ice Ball Maker by Polar Ice will help you craft the perfect drink to impress your guests.
  • ENHANCES THE FLAVOR OF YOUR DRINK. Clear ice is free of impurities meaning it won’t alter the flavor of your favorite whiskey or cocktail.
  • REDUCE DILUTION WITH SLOW MELTING ICE. The large 2.5” clear ice ball melts slowly and resists cracking to reduce watering down your Bourbon or Scotch.
  • EASY TO USE AND REMOVE DESIGN. Our patented tray allows for easy removal of your crystal clear ice so you won’t risk cracking the sphere.
  • THE PERFECT GIFT - CLEAR ICE. Give your favorite Whiskey drinker the Clear Ice Maker, and they will be sure to love the new addition to their collection.

It works with some effort!
by Kent T. (4 out of 5 stars)

I bought this product direct from Polar Ice Tray because Amazon.com did not ship to Canada. I wanted to post my feedback here to help other customers understand how to use this mold to make better clear ice cubes. It works, but with a bit of trial and error.

Consider your water source and local condition: I live in Canada where it has hard tap water and cold climate. The tap water has lots of trapped gases.

It is super important to get as much dissolved gas out of the water prior to freezing. After following the instructions and guide I understood very well how the polar ice tray mold is suppose to work. However, using the tap water I have in my area I found it necessary to first boil the water, let it set to room temperature. Then filter the water using my Brita water filter and let the water sit in my fridge for over night.

I then pour the filtered water into the bottom plastic tray (which is sitting in the foam insulation) first until it reaches near the top. I install the lower silicon mold with the holes for gas bubbles and continue pouring filtered water into the mold until it reaches the top. I install the top silicon mold and continue pouring filtered water until it reaches the top. I then gently tap and tilt the filled mold to release as many air bubbles out from within the mold and let it sit at room temperature for an hour.

It's important ensure directional freezing works!

I finally place the mold into the freezer on a wire shelf. I found that contact any walls or frozen object on the insulated portion of the mold will cause freezing from the bottom up which is counter to the freezing from the top down that the mold was designed for.

Good Luck!

I love how clear it be

MADE some CRYSTAL CLEAR ICE balls from this Polar maker. I love how clear it be. I was very exiting that I'm able to have some home made crystal ice ball for my drinks. I even can clearly see my fingers thru the ice ball when I holding it. I can't wait to show my children and use them. They melt slowly and last long time because of the size is so big which is 2.5". Hoiwever, it takes time to make each of them, so have to be patient and need to have longer prepare time for a big party. Don't take this the wrong way, it's simple to make but need more time to freeze. I usually make one at night and took out in the early morning. Then make one again and take it out at night, so I don't really know how long it will take to fully freeze. I guess at least need 5 hours for each make.

This is my first crystal clear ice maker. I like it. However, if I can be able to remove the air bubbles out of my balls which will be the best.

Next summer, I am going to use them in my children's lemonade stand. And I would recommend this clear ice maker to my friends.

It DOES make clear ice!
by Scott R. (5 out of 5 stars)

I made my first truly clear ice today with this device. I used water filtered through my Brita pitcher that had then been boiled twice and cooled in the refrigerator after boiling. The ice was not completely frozen though. However, I had only let it sit in the freezer for ~13 hours and my freezer is hit or miss as far as temperature goes and averages around 15°F, not the recommended ~0°F. The sphere was about 3/4 formed and the ice that was created was most definitely very clear. Not optically clear, mind you, but most definitely clearer than regular home-frozen ice. By fine-tuning the freezing time to one's own freezer, you can expect to make (relatively easily) quite clear ice spheres. If you want to make high-volume ice, this definitely is not for you. On the other hand, if you want to make very interesting novelty ice, then this is absolutely a must-have!

Only 60 % clear.
by Frank Klimko (3 out of 5 stars)

I have this a 3 out of five since 60% of the ice was clear. I tried two different freezers, both set at 0 degrees Fahrenheit. Tried water from an unairated faucet, distilled water and cold water as well as letting the insulation come to room temperature before filling, tapping the air out and placing in the freezer. The video was impressive but it doesn't work at home.

It did not work and produced bubbles every time with 9 attempts using tap and distilled water, with both room temperature and refrigerated water.

Creates ice balls, just ice balls
by Sam R (2 out of 5 stars)
July 31, 2017

I bought this expecting to make beautiful ice balls as advertised, I've tried tap water (Well water), boiled tap water, double boiled tap water and distilled all at room temperature as recommended, different places in the freezer as well. I've never gotten close to making a perfectly clear ice ball, its always had some air bubbles in close to the bottom.

Overall disappointed in this. Your money may be spent better elsewhere.

Nicely engineered
by Amazon Customer (5 out of 5 stars)
November 13, 2017

Beautifully engineered. The suspended spherical mould, with its perforated bottom, allows the water to push out in the downward direction when it expands while freezing. This gives a beautifully sculpted, perfectly shaped, ice ball within the spherical mould. I have tried a couple of other moulds earlier; this one's the best. The only problem is that you need to make ice over several days if you are working with one mould. While it's moderately priced, having more than a few moulds is not exactly cheap either.

Doesnt work

Doesnt work. Bottom of the ball is not clear still, only the top part is. Tried with different freezer temperatures as suggested.

Does not work as advertised.
by Scott (1 out of 5 stars)
April 6, 2017

Item did not work as advertised. Followed the instructions as described and even tried to vary water, temperature, insulation and was never able to get the clear ice ball. I paid the high price, 3 times more than other molds, thinking they might have the right set-up, but this did not give a clear ball. It is clearer than others, but far, far from being clear. Disappointed.

This is a great product, perfectly round large ice cubes

This is a great product, perfectly round large ice cubes. I have yet to get a completely clear ice cub but I plan to purchase some distilled water and see if that makes a difference.

Not as clear as I wanted
by AmazonAddict (3 out of 5 stars)

I tried this and found the ice wasn't completely clear. Maybe 60% of the sphere was clear. The rest melted too fast. I'll keep looking for the perfect clear ice.
