Kept Me Sane When Our Luggage Was Lost
by gadgetgirl (5 out of 5 stars)

Used this on my recent trip to Portugal and Spain and it worked fantastically! We lost our luggage between Barcelona and Lisbon. We kind of expected this as we were flying a different airline for the last leg between Barcelona and Lisbon. It was nice being able to tell the Lost Luggage people what city our luggage was in. It was also nice being able to check if our bag made it onto the next flight into Lisbon or not, which it didn't. Our luggage got on first flight out the next morning and I could tell when it made it into Lisbon. Just know, though, that you either need international data or wifi in order to use the app in another country to check the location of your luggage. Overall, I'm glad I bought it! It came with one month of free traces. After that, you purchase traces by the month, 6 months, or a year. I travel infrequently and usually just carry-on, so I anticipate just purchasing a month of traces when I know I'll be traveling and checking luggage. $4.99 for 30 days, $19.99 for 6 months, and $29.99 for 1 year.

which is annoying. When Trakdot works
by Luana (5 out of 5 stars)
February 10, 2016

I am a very avid traveler, and have tried most trackers out there because my luggage was lost several times and I don't want that to happen to me ever again. That said, using my Lugloc has been a life changer!

Compared to Trakdot, LugLoc is VERY user friendly. Trakdot loses its Bluetooth connection very often and has to be paired again every time, which is annoying. When Trakdot works, it's difficult to understand what the icon on the screen means, as the suitcase icon jumps around whether it's close or far away. LugLoc worked perfect every time, and I go into the plane knowing consistently that it's with me, thanks to its Bluetooth.

I was skeptical about LugLocs battery as well, what with 15 days being an absurdly long time for any battery, but mine actually lasts over 20 days, so I was very impressed. Compared to Trakdot, this is a no brainer. I've had a few flights where I received no notifications from Trakdot due to its battery dying mid-flight, even after purchasing new batteries for it right before the flight.

I've tried using other trackers as well, but LugLoc proved to be the most reliable and friendly to use, and I would certainly recommend it over any other similar product out there.

Did not work
by DKB4B (1 out of 5 stars)

I bought this to track my luggage during a trip through multiple airports. It does not work in airports, apparently because it can't get enough signal when it is in luggage storage places in airports, or in transit through airports. My luggugage was "lost" in one airport, which is exactly why I purchased this product, but it didn't pick up the signal until I found my bag and was physically standing beside it.

It also says you get a 30 day trial membership for the tracking service but I couldn't get it to work at all until I purchased the service.

I will say, however, that when I emailed the company they were very responsive, even on a weekend late in the day and they did try to help. Unfortunately I am returning it because it did not do what it promised. Due to being gone on an extended trip (for which I purchased this item) I am past the 30 day return window, so am contacting the company directly for a refund.

Updated to add: the company will not let me return it and I am outside of the 30 return window for Amazon. This was a waste of my money.

Tech is just not ready

Being a victim of lost luggage in the past, this sounded like a great option to assist me if it were to happen again. Setting up an account and linking the unit to my phone was fairly simple and straight forward. However, after using it several times, it only managed to alert me once to the proximity of my bag and only after I had it in my hand and was waiting for the shuttle. I read mixed reviews and understood that it was not designed to be a "live view" tracker and that it will only connect to the GSM network after it is no longer in motion. With that said, motion is the operative word. If it's on the conveyor line, on a different flight, or in a taxi cab... you won't be able to track the bags location until it stops which could be hours later. In these days of instant access to data, it is discouraging to have such lag time when you are desperately wondering where your personal belongs are.

My sister and I were traveling and bought a LugLoc and a Traveldot to compare. After returning I would recommend Trakdot. Lug Loc requires paying for "traces" up front. It will notify you if your battery is low but if you want to know whee your bag is you need to use one of your traces. Trackdot at minimum always texts or emails when the bag arrives at a different airport. I would need to use a trace for that. I did accidentally use a trace trying to figure out if the blue tooth was working, and yes it could give me a general idea that my bag was in Queens NYC. Prices are fairly comparable and LugLoc is thinner and holds the charge longer. The Trakdot at least tells you if your bag is in the same state or country and if there's an issue then you can do a more detailed search. Nice idea, cost and functionality meh.

Not ready for prime time!

Save your money! This is Bluetooth not gps short range! It is over priced with a subscription on top! It would be no issue if it worked and it does not! The app is awkward at best and your bag would have to jump up and kiss you to find you! It can not locate the bag on the plane after it is loaded or unloaded! Huge rip off! The airlines have a better app and I really wanted this to work! I saw it on the today show and it is not worth the money! There is no support number only web and email! Run!!!!

LugLoc Luggage Tracker - The Worldwide Smart Lost Baggage GSM Locator - Track The Exact Location Of Your Bag Globally (not just bluetooth like others) - Rechargeable 15 day battery

The first LugLoc I received was DOA - it would not power on or charge. Amazon provided a return shipping label and issued a refund after I returned the defective item.

I ordered another LugLoc unit. The second unit powered on and charged as expected. I used the LugLoc in my luggage when I went to the Philippines. The unit reported arrival at the airport but that was about it.

After I arrived at my condo I charged the LugLoc and slid the power switch to the Off position and placed it back in my suitcase.

Two days before I was departing the Philippines I wanted to top off the charge so it would be ready for the return trip. Unfortunately when I slid the power switch to the On position the unit did not power on, and plugging the unit into the micro USB charger did not do anything. This unit appears to have died just sitting in a suitcase powered off and not being used. I even paid for an additional 30 days since it started my 30 day service the minute I added the device to the mobile app even though I did not need to locate the device since it was sitting next to me and I wasn't leaving for two weeks. They should not activate the 30 day service as part of adding the device to the app. The instructions indicate the 30 day service begins after you request to locate the device. I don't consider the Bluetooth connection adding the device to the mobile app a valid location request since it's in Bluetooth range and not using the cellular network. If they are going to begin the 30 day service when you do anything with the unit they need to clearly state that even verifying the device isn't DOA will start the 30 day service period.

Very Disappointing/Does Not Function As Advertised
by JDAMON (1 out of 5 stars)
May 29, 2018

Buyer beware. This is a good example of early technology that is being marketed and sold to public before it has been adequately engineered/debugged. The Bluetooth functionality is extremely finicky, only selectively pings the app and mostly doesn't work. The antenna tracking functionality takes a long time and, once again, only selectively works. Even if it sporadically does, you can't reliably count on it. I've seen several of these units in the market and can confirm that mine isn't an isolated example.

I think that the reason the product remains viable is because people are desparate for a device that can reliably track luggage. However, this isn't it. Probably needed many months of better product development before being released to the public.

Between the purchase price and the monthly plan that you will have to invest in, this is absolutely not worth it yet. Tempting to hope so while wishfully thinking, but would avoid until better product is released.

by MEB (5 out of 5 stars)

I used these on a recent flight to Cyprus with a host of technical equipment was bringing for work- Changed planes a few times to include coming and going through London Heathrow. Using the application I was able to track my luggage at every point. Some patience needs to be taken with the update of the application and in some cases you find that you need to "refresh" or reopen the application to get an accurate display of the devices current status in-order initiate a track. Its important to remember that luggage is not always moving through a location that provides cellular service. Plans run at different rates for different periods. I used a $4.99 for 30 days plan. This can be applied instantaneously.
The Bluetooth proximity feature works flawlessly. My luggage was to large to utilize the conveyor belt at one location and my bags were brought out at another location. I was not informed of this and was using the Bluetooth feature to let me know when the bags were coming up the belt. I quickly realized the bags were behind me about 50ft away at the Airline's baggage counter. The Bluetooth feature also worked to verify the baggage was aboard the plane prior to take off. In most cases you can walk to the back of the aircraft and find that you are in enough proximity to get a fix on the luggage.

Would not recommend
by Edward Conway (1 out of 5 stars)
July 12, 2017

I purchased several units for a recent trip to Europe, At first, the units worked as advertised with the initial 30 days free service plan that they promote, but when it came time to renew the service plan it was very difficult, I tried doing through the app on the smart phone but is was not allowing me to pick my devices, then I tried on the LugLoc website and paid for all my devices but the app never updated, they is no customer service phone to call. I don't recommend this product at all. I was disappointed.
