Product Description

Sawing wood with a fold down saw has never been so easy. The Buckster Bow Saw was inspired by a now defunct company's bestselling saw. We made it even better with an all-aluminum frame, stainless steel tensioning system and insulating rubber handle. The Buckster collapses downs compactly into a cylindrical tube measuring 48 cm (19 inches) long x 3.5 cm (1.4 inches) in diameter for easy storage. It can cut a log up to 33 cm (13 inches) in diameter. Spare blades are available. It is lightweight at 535 g (1.3 lbs).

If you only buy one saw for camping this should ...

If you only buy one saw for camping this should be the one. stores really compact, but has a really long cut because of its design. Typical folding saws have such short height clearances, that it's difficult to use its total length on all but the smallest limbs.

Incredibly versatile break down saw!

I'm the kind of person that's usually never satisfied by products available on the market but this thing is awesome. From the start like many of you out there, I was not keen on the idea of proprietary blades. When the purchase was made I had already planned to modify it but of all available options online that I saw, this was the best platform to start with. Upon delivery I grabbed the drill and modified it with a few holes, two slits, and added two pins effectively allowing it to take any generic blade from 18"-24". I miss judged one hole so added a washer and bent for quick fix. Next one will be a slit on the back to hook the rod instead of a hole. Pins also lock the saw shut when not in use while not requiring any tools. I carry in the saw (4) 24" blades, original blade, plus all other saw components.

I'll update the pictures with my final version one once I get around to ordering another one in a few weeks.

Great general outdoor saw

Purchased this for canoe camping after getting tired of a folding saw to have it do that...just fold and bend. Canoe camping legend and author Cliff Jackobson said a full size buck saw is the right tool to take. Folded down this isn't much bigger than a folding saw and being aluminum this one is lighter. After figuring out the assembly it takes less than a minute to assemble and take down. I like the foam grip handle. I used it on a 3 night canoe trip this fall to process firewood. Compared to any folding saw, It's solid and great for cutting 4-6 diameter wood. I will change out the blade as the one it comes with has the notches in the blade that are used for cutting green wood. I forget what they are called by they clear the cut material/saw dust which isn't necessary with dry wood. You end up getting more cutting notches with a dry wood blade. It's great for my use but might be a bit big for backpacking. Great general outdoor saw that's fairly compact and durable, but if your a serious wood shop person this may not be enough saw for you. A couple annoyances. All the parts slide around inside the tube which may just be the case for these types of saws. The little metal clip at the bottom of the holding side of the saw flaps around when sawing. You could remove it easily but that just increases the risk of it getting lost. Neither annoyance is enough for me to not highly recommend this as a great general outdoor saw.

Packable, durable, enviable

I love this saw! I've used and beat the crap out of mine for over a year now. I toss it in my camping bag, take it out in the woods and cut up all the wood I need for year-round campfires. Mine gets tossed around, both assembled and packes away, left in the dirt, chucked in the snow, hung off my belt, caught up in a pile of wood in the back of my truck, and keeps on cutting with zero issue. The blade is still plenty sharp and probably will not get replaced when it breaks because the cost of replacement blades is ridiculousness. I'll either buy a whole other saw or switch over to one of the larger silky saws.

Solid light weight saw

What a smart take down saw. Every piece of this fits into the large tube handle. Easy to deploy. Feels good in the hand when using it. Sharp. Light in weight for those concerned about that. Perfect for the field where you want to process wood for fire or other utilitarian uses.

LIGHTWEIGHT FUNCTIONAL SAW
by Scotreader (5 out of 5 stars)

This is an incredibly clever, tremendously lightweight bow saw. These fell out of popularity with the advent of the chainsaw, but in our great-grandfather's day, this was a go-to piece of equipment! The Buckster is so lightweight and compact that it is easy to add to a tool collection, and besides that, it offers something unique: a well thought out functional piece. I have it as a curiosity as much as a tool.

Light weight, good durability

I bought my wife this saw as a present and she's gotten a lot of use out of it both for camping and for around the house. She likes that she can cut things up if she wants to have a fire, without needing to get help from me.

Well constructed, slightly slow to assemble
by Campbell MacDiarmid (5 out of 5 stars)

Great design, love how it packs away inside the handle. Very sturdy construction, I've been using the blade it came with for a long time and it hasn't broken or lost its edge. One minor downside is that it can be quite fiddly to put together - particularly the first time you use it. If you want something you can set up and fold down again quickly, this probably isn't your first choice of saw.

Well built

Very well built. Could use a better blade but for the cost, your getting a very beefy saw that you can choose to adapt other blades to.
