Sadly it did not meet expectations

I thought this was the one. My requirements were; longer term storage and not an obvious flask. Upon further research I found if you stored whiskey in stainless steel (or worse, plastic) it would begin to take on a metallic flavor after about 3 days. The only real option was glass. Of course glass was breakable, see through and simply a smaller container like the original. When I saw this one I thought it was perfect. It claimed to be solid metal with a glass infused inner liner. Problem solved.

However, after leaving it half full of whiskey for 2 weeks a few things developed.
1) the rubber seal started to dissolve, leaving rubber goo in the bottom of the container
2) the closure threads started rusting, or some other chemical transformation
3) similar rust spots developed within the primary tube
4) the whiskey tasted horrible

Honestly, I think this is a fine flask if plan on putting your beverage of choice in it and then consume the contents within a couple of days. Any longer though, and it begins to break down and ruin the contents.

This is a great flask, hands down. Two major flaws, one star deducted for each. First, the rubber o-rings that seal the ends of the flask, they tend to bleed black into any liquid they touch. Now, I'm not sure about the rest of you, but I don't like having to wipe my hands and flask after every shot, nor do I particularly enjoy having my whiskey tinted black and tasting like rubber. Two, it will not keep anything cold (I honestly don't think it's meant to), and if you put anything cold in it, it will condense and weep on the exterior like no tomorrow! The compass is pretty much useless, but it does look nice on the end. The LED flashlight is rock solid...and VERY bright! Do not look directly into it, you'll end up wishing you didn't!

The flasks are very cool, but I bought 10 and 7 of them had loose compasses. The compass would slide out of the bottom of the holder. One of the compasses was cracked and had oil leaking out. Unfortunately I didn't have time to wait on returns. Getting logos put on the side for business gifts. I superglued the compass back in the tubes and hope it holds up.

The product seems awesome otherwise. Flashlight is super bright, but uses little short batteries (not AAA), so not sure how hard they are to find. The little cups and bottle opener are very cool. May be best Christmas gift of the year.

The silver ones came in different boxes than the green ones, and none of them had instructions.

Update, I contacted the manufacturer, and they replied immediately. Shipping me a replacement for the compass that is broke. They admitted to having an issue with the adhesive on the compass but had not caught these. I already fixed with gorilla glue.

I've had my eye on this for a while and finally pulled the trigger. My initial thought upon opening it, its a lot larger than I expected. But it is built well and a big hit with everyone. The light illuminates a decent sized room quite well, the compass works well, the bottle opener is easy to use, and the shot glasses, as long as you give them a good tug to make sure they are fully deployed work fine.

I did have an issue with one of the O-rings causing the main chamber to leak, but it came with an extra which seemed slightly thicker and after a quick swap its leak free.

Previously opened and no batteries

This was a Father's Day gift for my husband. Looks cool and seems to work great. Only gets one star because the package was previously opened and the batteries were gone. The package states "batteries included". Also had the same problem as another reviewer and the compass was not attached, you can see the glue where it had come off.

This is one of my favorite products that I have reviewed and the cool factor is off the charts. When I first got this flask, I was like "This thing is sweet!" Is it a Flashlight or a Flask? It goes both ways and can be used as either.

There are two collapsible shot glasses nestled into the top along with a bottle opener, has a flashlight and an oiled compass. The flask has been infused/lined with glass that preserves the flavor & quality of all 10 ounces of your favorite secret sauce. At 2"³ round by 9"³ tall, it packs comfortable into your backpack, duffle or suitcase when heading to your mother-in-law's for the holidays! Coming in at 17oz (1.1lb) it is heavier than most stainless steel flasks which tend to be around the 3oz mark and would be best suited for outdoor activities where weight is not a concern. Granted, most flasks do not have all the "extras" that the VSSL does.

Additional notes: Maker's Mark is a small-batch bourbon whiskey that is distilled in Loretto, Kentucky, by Beam Suntory. It is sold in its distinctively squarish bottle, which is sealed with red wax, and bottled at 90 U.S. proof (45% alcohol by volume). Maker's Mark started in 1954, after its originator, T. William "Bill" Samuels Sr., purchased the distillery known as "Burks' Distillery" in Loretto, Kentucky for $35,000 on October 1, 1953. The first bottle of Maker's Mark was bottled in 1958 and featured the brand's distinctive dipped red wax seal. Maker's Mark holds a U.S. trademark on the wax seal of their bottles. In the 1960s and 1970s, Maker's Mark was widely marketed with the tag line, "It tastes expensive ... and is." The distillery was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on December 31, 1974, and designated a National Historic Landmark on December 16, 1980, listed as "Burks' Distillery". This is the second one of these that I have bought, I also bought the first aid one.

I love these things! Fill this up with whatever drink you want. They make awesome gifts. I recommend also checking out the other VSSL's for storing emergency items like first aid and survival stuff for camping

The flashlight is nice and bright, plenty bright to use as a sort of lantern inside your house/tent pointing it at the ceiling. And it comes with a decent compass on the bottom of the VSSL. It really is a smart idea. It's no larger than the old school D cell flashlights (maybe about the size of a pringles can), but with the technology of LED, all of that is hollowed out and you can fill it with whatever you need.

This thing is so cool! I took it hiking and after a meal at our camp I pulled it out and we had a drink. Not a drop had been spilled and it was still cold. I'll be using it for all of my hiking and camping trips from now on.
