Khaos if a good name for this blaster
by Martin Milner,Top Contributor: Star Wars (5 out of 5 stars)

It had to happen - the fully-automatic Nerf Rival Blaster. Having bought and enjoyed (and reviewed) the Apollo and Zeus last year I've been waiting for the next generation of Rival blasters, and this doesn't disappoint.

The Khaos holds 40 rounds, so the magazine is BIG, as is the whole blaster. 40 rounds also takes a little practise to load, but the system works well. There are 4 10-round tubes with a lock-down spring and a flip top lid. Flip the top, lock down the springs, and you can drop rounds in quickly, as quick as reloading the 12 round magazine for the other blasters. It's easier to insert and drop the magazine than with the Zeus, more like a real magazine-fed rifle.

Once the magazine is in and you pull the power trigger (with your middle finger) the motor goes into action, and by pulling the main trigger (index finger) you can unleash a steady spray of balls until the magazine is empty - i.e. fully-automatic. You can release single shots or bursts too, and that's really how you'll want to use it unless you want to spend more time reloading than shooting. The magazine feeds to a pair of flywheels with a conveyor belt, pulling rounds from the rearmost tube first. There is a jam release door on the right side of the body in case you manage to jam it.

The battery compartment works well, is easy to load and secure (you need a cross-point screwdriver), and the blaster is well balanced. It is noisy though, as with all battery & flywheel blasters. It's big too, I'm 5'10" and this blaster fits me very comfortably. I wouldn't recommend it for a child younger than 14. That said there are similar larger blasters for normal and Mega Nerf darts, so this is not breaking new ground.

The flip up sights are nice, but as always for me they're more for show than serious use, you're better off aiming from fall of shot, especially if you're going full-auto.

I hope Nerf release a spare magazine pack soon, I'd want a couple of pre-loaded magazines with me in any serious Nerf battle, and I'd feel better letting this baby rip if I could reload in seconds rather than minutes.

Addendum: I've had this a couple of weeks now, and also got the red version. Both seem to drag the balls to the left, not a huge problem if you're aiming by fall of shot, but it does make the sights useless. The blue one now shows a very noticeable drop off in power after the first shot; the batteries may not have been brand new when I started, but I haven't fired a full magazine more than ten times. Battery life is certainly something to be aware of, especially if you're going to go full-auto a lot.

I also realized that there are no attachment points for a sling, which is a serious oversight. It's a heavy gun, and anything to relieve the weight or allow you to use a secondary weapon would be helpful. This isn't enough to lose a star rating, but just suggests they didn't fully road-test the blaster. Maybe next year's Rival blasters will finally have all the desired features incorporated in one unit.

This blaster is the addition the nerf rival line needed

The nerf rival khaos is straight up the BEST nerf product I have ever used.it proforms beutifully and operates like a well oiled machine.this blAster will provide a lovely addition to your collection and is a must buy.i love it.the full auto function is faster than the elite rapudstrike but more manageable than the elite hyperfire.when you pick up this blAster you feel a strong ancient and godly power emerge from it.It is fairly heavy so I would not recommend it for smaller kids.I'm 15 so it is fine for me but anyone under 8 would have trouble lugging this beast around. It is also very big.The magazine has a very unique style of loading and can become annoying at some times, and reloading is a chore in its own.Parents I advise you that you buy batteries for the blaster because the person you are buying it for because they will want to shoot it as soon as they get it.I was foolish and bought the gun and then the batteries several days appart, so the blaster was sitting onmy desk. The batteries that hasbro suggests that the user puts in the blaster are Duracell dry cell alkaline D batteries which are quite expensive, so I ordered the Nerf Rival rechargeable battery. The anital price is higher than the D batteries but it comes in handy to have a battery that you can reuse instead of continuosly purchaseing D batterys.

Definitely five star

This gun is a full automatic Nerf Rival weapon. Most of the weapons in this series come with 12 or 7 rounds, but this comes with 40.

The gun includes the clip, the gun, and the 40 rounds. You need SIX D BATTERIES (not included). Nerf is always pushing the rechargeable batteries. We bought procell by Duracell batteries and they have lasted through four weeks of near-constant shooting. Still going strong.

It's fun to load the clip. It's hard to get the clip in the first time - you have to figure out the angle.

Nerf sells replacement clips and extra ammo - it would be handy to buy those.

The clip can be hacked to hold fifty rounds - an extra round down each tube, and six rounds across the top of the clip. No jamming.

Defective On Arrival
by Matt (1 out of 5 stars)

The blaster that I received was defective. The box that it was shipped in looked as through it was repackaged. I loaded the 6-D batteries, loaded the magazine and inserted. Pressed the spool up switch for the fly wheels. There was a 20 second hesitation followed by only one of the fly wheels running. This was found after test firing and watching the balls get launched as if a toddler were throwing them. I guess I'm just one of the unlucky ones. Called Amazon who immediately dispatched a replacement. Thank you for the great customer service, Amazon. Their service is always something that can be counted on.

Buy safety glasses - This thing is no joke!

First, bravo Nerf! This toy is awesome and exceeded my expectation.

I'm the uncle the kids love and the siblings fear. "Rub some dirt in it and get up kid". After seeing how soft the balls were I decided the kids would be ok. I got shot in the chin from about 5 feet away and it makes to think twice about getting hit again.

Freaking awesome. Yes I know the Nemesis is king but ...

Freaking awesome. Yes I know the Nemesis is king but this automatic assault rifle is super fun to play with and has everything the Nemesis has, except the 100 round cartridge, and strap attachments, but for half the price. You can get a used Khaos for around $35 these days. Definitely worth that.

The only negative is the relatively wonky cartridge. It's huge and my kids and I are constantly spitting out ALL of the ammo half way through the re-load. An extra cartridge is a must have, IF going up against a Nemesis. Otherwise prepare to dominate.

Great Need gun. Rival balls are so much better than the old darts. I use this to play with the kids and they have the smaller guns. We have so much fun with these.

Shoots really fast and far but the bullets really don't hurt which is good. The only thing annoying

This gun is sahweet! Shoots really fast and far but the bullets really don't hurt which is good.

The only thing annoying about the gun is reloading. Hard to do and often the springs pop the balls out before it's done loading. I 3d printed a clamp to stop this and it works great.

6x Dcell batteries!
by Gerald (5 out of 5 stars)
January 7, 2019

Great shock and awe weapon for office warfare. fly-wheels are noisy, but forgivable in the heat of battle.

Comes with exactly 40 balls - enough to fill one magazine, if you lose one, or a co-worker snags a couple for their Nemesis hopper, you're now with limited ammo.

Requires 6(!!) D-Cell batteries! adds a lot of weight to stock of weapon.

I've had no jams yet, and it fires pretty consistently.

Disappointed, product does not work
by Donna Avagliano (1 out of 5 stars)

After giving this to my grand-son for Christmas, he was so excited as he has always been a Nerf Gun child, since he was small... but this one is nothing but disappointment and wish the packaging had not be destroyed at my house on Christmas day or it would be returned. I didn't realize it needed batteries so he wasn't able to try it until the next day at home and too late to salvage the packaging. So disappointed to give a child a bad gift.
