My six-year-old son, Jason, loves this set so much that he wanted to write the review. I told him he needed to read his review for a video, too, which he thought was cool (but scary). Here's what he wrote--you can see him reading it in the video since he got pretty nervous about trying to memorize it, which is still way better than I could have done at his age. All the words were written by him in about 20 minutes and he only spelled one word incorrectly.

Here goes:

Hi, I'm Jason and I'm six. Here are three reasons that I like Snap Circuits 3D.
1. You can build upwards.
2. There is also a light tunnel that actually looks like a tunnel, a sensing mirror, a horn, and a projector.
3. It contains 50 parts and you can build over 150 exiting [this was the mispelling] projects like the three walled house and the angled roof house.
[Steve's note: we have the 750 piece SnapCircuits set that Jason's older siblings got started with, so this new set works well with that one, too. Jason is very glad to have one of his "own" to play with without asking permission!]

WOW! & My Kid wants to do ALL of it Immediately!

We were waiting FOREVER for this set to be available once we'd pre-ordered, & it finally arrived today! We are fans of Snap Circuits generally, but this set is super awesome. I had been eyeing the Lights set, but am happy we waited for this one. I love the Light tunnel, Projector, & 3D-ness of it. I am also excited about the phototransistor, which will also give us another option in our study of transistors. This is a nicely packaged set for the price, with a fun variety of components. There are extra nifty bits like 3D glasses thrown in that show how the different colors of light can be bent. The manual has the usual 150* projects, plus the Elenco website has additional 3D diagrams that we can open in Microsoft Word for greater clarity. Since we already own the 750 Extreme Set & the Deluxe Rover, I am not sure how long this would last as a stand alone set, but it definitely has more fun factor than most electronics sets. If the goal is to get children hooked, this is a great start. Fortunately we have the internet for more in-depth study once they get tired of building things that work successfully, & start to question why it works the way it does. *150 includes count of every iteration of the same project counted individually-i.e. circuit with red light-1, same circuit with blue light-2, etc. (This might be helpful for beginners who need permission to mix things up a bit) Bottom line, impressive set for kids who like building cool stuff, & early successes. Plenty of interesting ideas for more advanced students to start creative juices flowing & delve into deeper learning using other resources. Great add on set for existing Snap Circuit Junkies.

FUN, EDUCATIONAL, AND EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SUPPORT

You cannot go wrong with Snap Circuits. They are extremely fun and extremely educational. I can not recommend them enough.

But what is really impressive is their customer service! Here is a review I wrote for the Snap Circuit rover some time ago, when the most expensive component failed:

We love this toy. My daughter has spent many hours assembling the various rover variations covered in the accompanying manual. I highly recommend it for the educational component alone; it is also fun. But the real reason I am writing this review is because one of our components just stopped working. I called the company. "Jerry" took my information and said he'd send it right out. When I pointed out that I hadn't paid for the replacement part yet, he responded, "We support our products." This despite the fact that we've had this rover for many months! I mean, a free replacement part... Actually supporting the product... I about fell over...

Something is broken

I purchased this as a Christmas gift. Because I purchase all of my Christmas gifts early, once it was opened and we discovered one of the pieces has a short in it oh, it was too late to return anything. My son has another small set and this was to be added to that one. So far we have not been able to identify the piece that does not work so there's not a lot he can do with the set. It's very disappointing. He was so excited about the set when he opened it and now it just kind of sits there. I couldn't even find an option to contact the seller which was also frustrating.

This is for a classroom science class. Currently, I have a nine year old "testing" it. He loves the projects, but is frustrated trying to get the walls to fit properly into their holders. I generally have to help and it takes a bit to get the walls properly connected. The experiments, however, are absolutely wonderful!!!! The light tunnel is especially a great hit!

Love circuits but some parts dont work.

My girls have always loved the circuits. However, we were very disappointed when there were parts that did not work. One switch and two lights didn't work. When the closed circuit didn't work when completed, my husband tested them by testing the batteries and then went from positive to negative in the battery hold to multiple pieces. Some worked and some didn't.

A super value for the price!

I have used these snap circuits in my classroom for years! They are super for self directed play and learning but young children will benefit from a little supervision. I recently bought two for my grandsons and knew they would love them! They do! These kits are well made and fairly sturdy. There are lots of parts, but each part fits into its own compartment. So the kit provides a good learning tool in showing children the value of carefully putting parts away as well!

My grandson received this for his sixth birthday. It is his third incremental set. He received the first one when he was four. He needed help then to read the instructions, although he was able to follow the illustrations very well. At six, he can read and understand the directions well. Great product -- challenging, but rewarding. He'll work in the projects for hours.

What a great concept! At first, my 11 year-old daughter simply used the exercises as puzzles (which was still enjoyable for both of us), but she eventually became genuinely curious about the circuitry and began to learn about the properties and purposes of the various components. Now she's building contraptions of her own design. We're planning to purchase additional Snap Circuits parts.
