ONEWHEEL BUYERS BEWARE OF SAFETY ISSUES AND TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE
by DB mom (1 out of 5 stars)
June 23, 2017

BUYER BEWARE OF ONEWHEEL- safety issues and service - we purchased this about 3 months ago for our son. It was great at first. When I say great, I mean my son's favorite gift ever. He LOVED it. Then it seized up and threw our son off of it, also started making a weird noise. Contacted manufacturer immediately to let them know of problem and safety concern. They told us to take a screen shot of the display, provide serial number, etc (which we did). We even provided pics of injuries sustained from being thrown off. They said it looked fine and they told us to have our son ride it again to video the problem. Video it seizing up and being thrown off? We said it wasn't safe so no we were not allowing him to ride it in it's unsafe state. After about a week, they finally told us to send it to them. We had been offering to drive it / drop it off, etc. to any location. They said no, it must be shipped. We shipped it. Weeks have gone by. They keep telling us that they should be finishing diagnostics. We have told them that this is our son's main form of transportation and we will do anything needed to help expedite the repair. So after weeks of getting nowhere, no answers, no timeline, etc., we asked for them to repair and return to us or refund now. They have done neither and I believe this started about a month ago. They have terrible service. On the rare occasion you can get ahold of anyone, they just stall you (politely). Do not spend a crazy amount of money on a product that you cannot get service for, from a company who tells you to go ahead and ride the onewheel that seized up and threw you off, resulting in injuries. Scary!

Worth every penny.

I can no longer imaging my life without this board. The sensation of riding is pure pleasure. I'm amazed by the engineering and love the robust design. Keep in mind this is a board sport so you are going to fall, experience nosedives and everything else so wear protection. Imagine the feeling of wakeboarding, snowboarding, skateboarding and surfing whenever you want it on any terrain. Remarkable. Buy one and come ride with me!

Dangerous failures, serious injuries, and non existent customer service
by P. Deutsch (1 out of 5 stars)

Onewheel board broke within 3-4 months of use. When stepping off the board, it would continue to accelerate and drive off on its own. This caused several severe falls, damage to my parked car (when the board drove into it), and is a huge risk if the board were to shoot into traffic.

I spoke with Onewheel's customer service, who wouldn't take the issue seriously until I sent several videos showing the malfunction. Then, they took two months with the board and just sent the same faulty board back.

DO NOT purchase a onewheel if you're a serious rider.
by Charles Sullivan (1 out of 5 stars)

The one wheel is the future of commuting and to the best of my knowledge the funnest board I have ever had the pleasure of riding. which is why it breaks my heart to say that the Onehweel should be recalled and prohibited from being distributed because of its dangerous emergency stopping mechanism.

When I fist saw the board in person I saw a board, a wheel and a glass cannon. I knew what to expect (Kinda). You get on this board, you ride calmly and once you get the hang of it riding it feels better than anything that isn't sexual.

The nature of my bitchh comes with its emergency brake mechanism. While in motion the motor turns off forcing the board to anchor to the ground sending the person on it flying off like a dart. There's a pushback mechanic wich will indicate the to slow down or the battery is below 30% to prevent shut off. In my case there wasn't any warning. The board shut off at 90% battery while I was riding at 25 miles per hour.

Now I know the counter argument some plev will make is don't ride at 20 miles an hour but once you sync with the board its so easy to become one with it thus losing perception of speed. Like riding a car on the high way.

My favorite part about riding the one wheel is the way it carves. turning on this board is super smooth. The worst part about it was how I could have potentially broken my bones once it anchored to the ground at full speed without warning and I could have potentially died. Fortunately I was wearing a helmet.

I've been doing extreme sports for years (Skateboarding or biking down hill at ridiculous speeds, snowboarding like a champ through sketchy terrain at fast speed) . I'm one of the guys you see doing crazy stunts on youtube and landing them perfectly. This is the first time I've fallen in years. The Onewheel is simply not reliable or safe at what I call fun mode.

The mechanism is designed to save the board NOT the rider. This board is a 100 percent death proof but in order to get the full advantage of it you must be standing from a spectators view.

I've googeld up some solutions and pople have actually thought of the wonderful idea of placing wheels on the front end preventing what most call the nose dive. The motor shuts off but the board keeps going. The rider will know the motor is off immediately. This gives the person on board a matter of seconds to wait for the board to turn back on or to jump off it in a more controlled fashion as opposed to flying 10 feet and landing on their elbow.

or how about make a board that can handle higher speeds that doesn't shut off at 25 mps but doesn't exceed them preventing shut off that one day is going to kill someone. I personally dont' care if it weights 30 pounds more, is bigger and cost an additional $5000 . I'll take two

A truly unique riding experience!

Riding the OneWheel is such an awesome time. Unlike electric skateboards which require a controller to use, the OneWheel accelerates and slows down just by leaning your body weight. The turning and carving and just like riding a snowboard because there is only one pivot point. Although the top speed is listed as 15mph, in reality it is capable of 20+mph once you have the correct skills. It also can go offroad through sand, dirt, gravel, and grass without trouble. I typically get between 7-8 miles per charge based on tire pressure and riding conditions and a full recharge only take 30 minutes. The build quality is amazing and shows what is possible when a product is designed and built in the USA.

Terrible customer service
by Amazon Customer (1 out of 5 stars)
January 14, 2019

I almost never leave one star reviews because I'm optimistic. But our experience has been abysmal with this expensive board.
Only several hours after opening it up on Christmas morning it was blinking error codes that were not in the manual, and making the board unrideable. We spent days trying to call a customer service that doesn't answer. Their switchboard cuts you off after several minutes of waiting. Dozens and dozens of emails that are not returned. Finally got somebody on the line one time who help me for a short time and said they would call back... Nothing. I've never experienced customer service this horrible. Strongly encourage not buying. If you get a good board from them, you're golden. But if you get a lemon, you're screwed. What an expensive mistake.

Don't buy

Worst customer service I've ever dealt with in life. I purchased a one wheel and the battery didn't last 10 minutes. It took 4 months before I got a response from them. Not worth the money

built like a tank and so much fun

Amazing ride. I'm 38, 6ft tall and 215. It carves great and powers through hills and bumps.

I grew up skateboarding and continue to snowboard 3-10 times a year. This now allows me to get the floaty powder feeling all year round on all kinds of terrain. It's built like a tank and worth every penny.

Quick learn. I have never ridden a skateboard before ...
by MikeD (5 out of 5 stars)

Quick learn. I have never ridden a skateboard before so this is my first experience! It took me about three rides to get fairly decent to go up and down the street with no issues. I first started out in my large office by myself- I took a rolling desk chair as my temporary support mechanism just to get acclimated to the board and it's controls. Next, I practiced cruising around the yard scaring the horses. I just got the board this afternoon - been on about four rides and I can tell you it's quite the work out in the abs, the ankles and the obliques. By the way I am 6'3", 53 years old and 225 lbs. I imagine as I ride more my weight will drop and my endurance will go up and maybe I'll have abs again :-)
