Product Description

mifold Grab-and-Go booster seat is the most advanced, compact and portable child car safety seat in the world. It's more than 10x smaller than a regular booster and it's just as safe. mifold works in the exact opposite way to a traditional booster seat. Instead of lifting the child up, mifold brings the seatbelt down. It does this at three points: there are belt guides on either side of the child's hips, to hold the lap belt correctly against the bones and off the soft stomach. These belt guides are adjustable to three sizes to make sure that the belt is always held snugly in place. There is a third clip on a strap that pulls the seatbelt chest strap down correctly onto the bones of the shoulder; away from the face and neck. So like a regular booster, mifold holds the seat belt in exactly the correct position on the bones of the hips and the bones of the shoulder, without needing a big, bulky seat to lift the child. In a collision, the child is protected in the same way. mifold simply works to hold the adult seatbelt correctly on a child.

Not a Booster Seat
by RB (1 out of 5 stars)

Being a Child Passenger Safety Technician Instructor working with Law Enforcement and Fire Rescue personnel all over the Country for 30 plus years, I was very interested to see this product as I love to see new innovations in the field of child passenger safety. The quality of the Mifold was fine and the claims were impressive, but it I feel it stopped there. I tried five different kids of varying ages on the Mifold. The belt fit was "ok", a little too low on the thighs in my opinion, but certainly not up on the abdomen. Before we had even left the driveway, the kids had moved forward on the seat to fold their legs over the edge so I had to take them out of it.

In a real world setting, a child does not behave like a crash test dummy and when they have no "BOOST", which this seat lacks, the child slides forward on the seat to get comfortable. In order for a child to be able to fold their legs over the vehicle seat, they will slide forward, leaving a gap behind them, which in turn loosens the seatbelt. This is exactly what an actual booster seat should be designed to prevent. Booster seats are designed to position the seatbelt AND to boost the child up to prevent the child from slouching or sliding forward on the vehicle seat. The Mifold seems to only address the belt positioning.

I am not happy with the product and definitely not convinced of the safety and will return it.

We really want to like this, really really wanted to like this
by L. Blace (1 out of 5 stars)

We really want to like this, really really wanted to like this. We got two of these for our 8 and 6 yo, for a vacation where the longest driving was 3 hours in the car at a stretch. The shoulder straps didn't keep the belt away from their necks w/o the plastic clip digging into their shoulders or bothering them in the back. We couldn't get it comfortable enough for the kids. The seat kept folding up toward the back of the seat because it was slippery. I wish the seats would somehow stay flat and in place. My kids complained that the seats were hard and hurt their bottom. It wouldn't have taken much more to add a little bit of cushioning.

Like I said, I was hoping for a great product or even a good product. It'll do for the quick trips or an emergency extra seat, but neither of my kids like it.

Eyes of a 5 year old

Bought this one and the inflatable one, was not sure which one would be better. While this one might work for quick trips, we are going to return this one and keep the inflatable one. This decision is solely based of my 5 year old. He like the inflatable one better because it doesn't hurt his bottom. When he first sat on this one he complained it was not comfortable.

Really easy to take on trips
by Crystal Smith (4 out of 5 stars)

Really easy to take on trips. It is as compact as they say. It is too hard for my 4.5 year old to buckle herself in though. So that's the only reason that it is getting 4 stars. We were in a car accident the 3rd time we used this and she was able to walk away with just a tiny rub burn on her shoulder from the seatbelt. So I would say this did its job.

Kids prefer competitor's product for ease and comfort.

I bought this one and the bubble bum booster for and upcoming trip to compare. The Mifold is smaller and more compact, but my kids preferred the bubble bum. The Mifold is more difficult to thread the seatbelt in and out of every time you buckle in and because it sits flat and kids legs are short, it is more uncomfortable. My tall 8 y/o daughter commented on this immediately. She thought the bubble bum was much more comfortable and easier to buckle in and out of. We sent this one back, kept the bubble bum, and ordered 2 others for my other children.

Trip to Mexico success!
by Bobalink (5 out of 5 stars)

Love it. We used it on a trip to Mexico. Our 4 year old liked it. We used it on the plane, in a taxi, in Uber's while we explored Mexico and in a taxi back to the airport. Traveling was soooo much easier without a huge car seat and it only takes 15-30 seconds to strap your kid in once you get the hang of it. Word of caution when in a foreign country, stand outside the car while strappping the littles in, not inside sitting next to your kid. The moment you get in and shut the door drivers will drive off even if you haven't finished buckling everyone in and in fast crazy Mexico traffic it's hard to do while moving. So again don't get in the car until your little is secure and don't shut your door until you are buckled. This seat is also great for Home. It's not our full time seat but we live in a coastal tourist town and sometimes parking is too hard to find when we go oceanside to eat. We often want to walk to avoid the hassle of parking but we know our toddler may be too tired to walk to the restaraunt and then back home too. We throw this in my bag and if he does gets too tired to walk back home an Uber is always just a press of a button and minute away and this is available and easy to use in every car we have tried it in.

good concept, some issue
by Ben (2 out of 5 stars)

bought this for the trip. It's good as it's very portable, but 2 main issues for my 7 yo to use.
1. this might be "cogenital". It's too low for the sitting position. My 7 yo sit on that, and she could not see anything outside the window, made the 5 hr trip very boring for her
2. this might be an indeed safety concern. When the child sitting on it changing position, the back piece might move up to the seat back, making the booster seat as "L" shape, by doing so, the seat belt will move up to child's neck position from shoulder. I would suggest to have some kind of clip to keep the bottom 2 pieces flat to prevent it from happening.

Overall, it might be a good alternative for a short drive, but certainly not good for a long haul

A great purchase for our recent vacation!

Bought this last week because we were taking a trip to Atlanta. We were visiting my little sister, but I anticipated there may be times when she would be busy and we'd have to catch an Uber. Lugging around a booster chair to places like the zoo just didn't seem like a legit solution, but my son just turned four, is 43 inches tall and 43lbs, so I didn't want to go without a carseat. This was small enough to put in his backpack for the flight (we fly Spirit and use only one personal item sides bag each, so small was a must), and in my purse while we jetted around Atlanta. It was super fast to set up in the cars, and he was very secure. It really is such a smart design. Rather than boost the child up, it simply holds the seatbelt down so that it falls correctly on the lap. There's even a strap to help keep the shoulder strap from riding up into their neck. When we were ready to hop out of the car, it was a cinch to grab and go. I've even, already, had an occasion to use in now that were back home. We dropped my husband off at work coming back from the airport this morning and my big sister helped out by picking my son and I up from his work. She has two kids of her own and there was no third carseat. Not a problem since we could grab the miffed from my son's backpack. So thrilled with our purchase and my son loved it. I'll use his regular carseat for day to day travel, but will definitely keep this handy, especially for future trips.

Great for travel, does stand by its claim for car seat in a bag
by Deepa K. (4 out of 5 stars)

I was skeptical of the design when I first saw it on Kickstarter. Sure it was small but I didn't think it was safe.

However now when I needed to make a trip and didn't wanna rent a car seat at crazy prices, I thought I'd give it a try.

The size is indeed quite small and easily fits in a tote or the outer zipper of a backpack. I had practiced it at home before we left so I didn't spend much time setting it up in the rental car. It was indeed safe and kept my child tethered safely. She didn't jerk forward when there were hard brakes and the adjustable back strap ensured the seat belt wasn't cutting into her neck.

It is not meant to replace a regular car seat as for the size, it cannot be enforced with a lot of foam for comfort. Also, the child isn't at the window level so missed the thrill of the ride. However the company has recently designed another car seat called HiFold which solves those problems although ,as expected, is larger than this.

For what this is meant to be, it solves the issues and is a great design. Seems sturdy as well so should last until my 5 year old outgrows this. Definitely recommended for travel.

UNSAFE unless very careful about how you buckle
by ACPT1980 (2 out of 5 stars)
February 21, 2019

This picture alone makes me cringe. The company is showing people how to UNSAFELY and INCORRECTLY have their kid buckled in. This alone should give it 0 stars but honestly I do like many things about Mifold. The size, weight, and ability to be safe IF USED CORRECTLY are pretty cool. 4 year old? Not a chance in hell. A 7-10 year old who isn't falling asleep in the car for short rides not on highway? Yes, that works for me. I've already written the company about this terrible picture & encourage you to do the same----you cannot use the Mifold if it sits on your lap like this. You have to actually fold it and sit which is NOT comfortable but positions it right. Otherwise you are putting your kids in danger, plain and simple. Does not fit in between 2 big regular car seats in back of my Rav4. Takes up same amount of butt room as booster so don't think you're squeezing in there.
