The Chinese mantis is a fantastic species for the beginner, proving one of the easiest to keep in captivity. Not only is it large, but very tame, and will tolerate handling. Diet is no problem, and shedding problems will rarely occur. Overall, the Tenodera is a fantastic species, much recommended! Being a tame species, it is great for the beginner, and its ootheca hatches a vast amount of nymphs!

Features

• You will receive: (1) Live Chinese Praying Mantis Nymph (L-3 to L5) Active, healthy. Will grow up to 3 inches.
• Great Educational Pet. Very tame and enjoyable to interact with.
• The mantis diet right now is Hydei Fruit Flies. Please make sure you have available a food source for your mantis when it arrives. As the mantis grows, it will eat larger insects like house flies, moths, crickets, roach nymphs.
• This species of mantis will survive in fair conditions. It's best to keep it around 20-26 C (68-78.8 F). Room temperature will work best. Warmer temperature speeds up the metabolism of the mantis and will shorten its life span and in contrast, cooler temperature slows its metabolism and lengthens the life span, but both extremes could kill it. Humidity should be around 60-65%. Just make sure it doesn't get too dry or too damp.

Got my little guy yesterday. I was worried sick about him because the weather had suddenly decided to go bad as soon as he was sent out. There was a week delay due to weather conditions over there but that is understandable.

When I opened the package, I was honestly ready to prepare a funeral but the inside was insulated with a heating pack, cardboard pieces, and a large clump of wool. They had even insulated the fruit flies with a paper towel under the lid and put more carboard in with the mantis. My niece was excited to see the tiny baby mantis and loved holding him(with supervision of course).

Everything listed was inside except the moss. I'm not too concerned about that because the coconut fiber should be enough for the mantis for now.

After things calmed down and the mantis had been happily settled into his new home, we managed to get him to eat. It was fun to watch him go after the tiny flies(WARNING The flies are ready to escape as soon as the lid is opened. As suggested by insect sales, put the flies in the fridge for about 10 minutes to slow them down and make them easier to get out of the container and easier for your mantis to catch).

Today the little guy that we affectionately named Killer is hanging upside down from the lid preparing to molt. It will be exciting to watch him griw up to be big and strong.

I've purchased other mantis items where there are 100-200 hatchings; but I have had no luck with any survivors when releasing them in my backyard. So to me it made sense to get one live Mantis slightly beyond newborn stage and continue to watch it grow with all the items provided in this order before releasing it in my backyard. Customer service is also through the roof fantastic!

I got 3 of these for myself. They are so cool! I love watching them grow! The kit comes with everything you need to get your mantis going! It has coco fiber, a tiny water bottle(for misting), fruit flies(food for the mantises), food to keep the fruit flies alive, branches, moss, containers with holes in the lids, directions for how to set everything up, and the mantis. If you buy more than one mantis, you have to keep them separate. They will send you everything you need for every mantis that you get, so don't worry! My mantises are so lively and I can tell each one apart(even though they are all the same type). What a joy to have these creatures in my home!

I ordered 2 of these, they both arrived alive and well. The smaller one, I think it was a male, died after a molting or two (maybe 1 month?). The larger female grew very big, and lived 7 to 8 months, and was a spider eating machine. She actually laid an egg case a month or so before she died, but nothing ever hatched from it. I did film her laying that egg case, and I posted it to YT. As far as I'm concerned, there is no better mantis to buy than a Chinese mantis. And although they are currently unavailable, I look forward to the time I can buy another one (or 2 or 3). Videos of my big Chinese mantis are available on YT on my beanmeister22 channel.

We just got our package containing two (2) live Chinese mantises.

The packaging was superb.. there was a cooling pack and individually paper-wrapped mantis and fruit-flies.

Two plastic travel containers for each mantis, two larger containers, and the fruit flies.

Each of the kits came with some coco coir, moss, and a twig for climbing. All moist, sealed and seemingly sterilized.

The mantids were alive (despite the warm temperature), healthy, and eating actively.

They weren't shy at all!

I must say, this was an amazing value. Totally worth it.

awesome!!!The Manits came in a box that was insulated and padded very carefully. I received lots of care instructions. I love my tame, healthy, mantis!!!! They were expertly packed and the kits came with more materials than expected!!!!

The praying mantis arrived well packed and very healthy. Immediately 8 and was very active. Doing well growing big very friendly and enjoys being in the first grade classroom. Hearty appetite strong personable. Students and myself have thoroughly enjoyed "Harper". I have become attached and probably will not let her go home with any of the students LOL

5Star Review. The Shipping was on Time. My Order made it alive & the free fruit flys did to! The cage kit was Neat and everything Turned out Great. Theirs one thing I misunderstood is the size of the Pray . I figured I ordered Large Adults. No worries things can grow. 5Star!

Mantis was shipped quickly but when it arrived it was missing the middle left leg and the rear left leg was there but almost useless. had a hard time catching the fruit flies and became less and less active. we thought maybe it was molting, but it finally died last night after about 2 weeks.

These are really great. I ordered 3, and one arrived dead, but the sellers responded quickly to my email and offered to replace the dead one and one of them that was missing a leg free of charge.

The set up is great, they leave detailed and coherent instructions that you can follow easily, and provide you with ample supplies to get started. I'll definitely be buying more of these critters in the future.
