BUYER BEWARE!

This seems to now be a dead product. The default (LaMetric) weather app no longer works, and has been down for at least a couple months. This is a core service by the device developers, and it shouldn't take them months to fix this. This is especially frustrating since it costs as much as an Echo Show - which has superior functionality, a much better display, better sound, and far superior support. I understand the 8bit appeal of this product - it's largely why I bought it - but it really looks like the devs are throwing in the towel. Website has broken links, etc.

Overpriced Wi-Fi Clock
by m (3 out of 5 stars)

The product itself is rather nice, but the problem with a ticker display is that it's always moving; you never really get to see what you want when you want to. I like the retro pixel look, it's not crisp, but good enough for me. Only a small space on the left end is able to display color. There aren't too many developer apps so I'd call the function sufficient but shallow. The brightness can adjust to conditions, which is nice.

If I were to change this clock, I'd release a cheaper version. If I were to ask myself what this clock should be worth/priced at, I'd say $60. I'd get rid of the radio/speaker function because I don't use that, I'd make it bigger.or make the pixels smaller so it can leave up stationary information. Every pixel should be able to display color. Unlike a smartwatch, Lametric only shows one function at a time; one line of information at a time. And you have to wait for all your apps to scroll through before you see it. Even a cellphone's notification bar provides better instant information at a glance. No sms notifications. Pitiful! Smartwatches do better. And I'd make it hangable with any wall hanger; put the power cord on the side or bottom, so you can hang it flush on a wall.

Wait for version 2 and lower price.

The app needs a major upgrade because it is very basic. Some of the pictures are hard to recognize what they are unless someone told you what they were. I returned the clock because I felt I spent too much money for toy clock and if you lose a internet connection the clock is useless. Also the clock must be connected to the 2.4 band of your wireless router and your phone must be on the same 2.4 band too. Which is something I didn't like because I have a tri-band router and I normally kept my cellphone on the 5ghz band. When I bought my clock it was 199.99 now amazon has it listed at around 390.00. Definitely not worth that price.

After a year...

I advise you to skip this!

When I started using it back in July 2018 apps would work and connect to the platforms and get the stats you want to display on it and get alerts was pretty fun and cute.

Now a year later, literally just showing me the clock. Any other app that I was using has ceased to work or connect. Even after uninstalling to reinstall from LeMetric store only to find app is no longer listed.

Now just being a $200 dollar plastic paper weight.

Guess the hype around it has long gone died and no signs of it coming back. They do occasionally provide a firmware update, but doesn't do anything for the apps that at a glance would save me opening up my phone to see a certain piece of info.

What a shame.

Wait till another version is released.

Love the idea, just not ready yet I think. Too hard to set up. When you do set it up as instructed most of the apps or links won't work. Surprising very few things are available for US based customers.

Cool but Pricey
by Sonny Chanhvongsak (4 out of 5 stars)

Too expensive for what is it but if you have the cash to spend its by far the coolest clock I've owned

Pros
-Highly Customizable
-Shows you information you would otherwise look at your phone for ie weather, stocks, etc
-Has IFTTT integration (I set my clock to scroll my sms messages when I receive them)
-Cool display piece \ conversation starter

Cons
-The bluetooth speaker is meh but its more of icing on the cake
-Display can be "fuzzy" to some but I think its fine
-Wifi connection occasionally cuts out (could probably be fixed with a firmware upgrade in the future)
*Note the picture I attached is a little over exposed and is more clear in person

Cool hardware, OK apps, be prepared to write your own
by Zach McCormick (4 out of 5 stars)
September 30, 2017

It's pretty cool, although the app store is pretty paltry. I developed my own app and was a bit disappointed with the flexibility of the platform - you basically have to write your own webapp for the end user if you want to allow them to customize it (no way to provide a webview or something for app configuration where I could allow the user to OAuth themselves into a service). I was not impressed with many of the other applications on the platform - many of them seem out-of-date or broken.

Very cool product, poor app functionality
by Corbin Williams (4 out of 5 stars)
December 19, 2017

I saw this product in many youtube videos so I decided to order it right away, upon figuring out where to buy it I found out it was $199 which I would have guessed half that amount. But it seemed cool enough to spend the money on so I went for it. Once it arrived I couldn't resist waiting for Christmas so I busted the box open and began playing with it, it's truly a cool product but the app which sets up how it works is somewhat poor. For them to sell a product this cool I would expect a better app experience, it seems as if a lot of outside developers are what is making the different applications not exactly LaMetric them selfs. Love to see what the future holds maybe the second generation of this product will be worth it or maybe worth $99.95 lol

Awesome Novelty, But very pricey for what you get.
by Super Mario (3 out of 5 stars)
February 26, 2019

I purchased this Clock for the novelty appeal. I am fond of 8-bit and Nintendo related items. I was in need of a clock for my living room, and loved that you could display a pixel image with the clock. The fact that it has 80's video game icons is what attracted me. I don't really use the apps that can be used, as i just use it for time, and use the weather app. A lot of reviews stating the weather app does not work. I linked to WiFi, had a hardware update, and was able to link up with no problem. I paid for the novelty factor, but it is an overpriced smart clock. I have no use for linking up to you tube subscriber count, face, Instagram or any other social media related items. If that is what you are looking for, this is for you.

Good smartclock for an office, but some caveats
by Paul (4 out of 5 stars)
October 29, 2019

I have to admit that I took a little bit of a gamble when I bought this product. Going by the reviews here, I was hesitant because of the issues other reviewers have identified. Now having used the Lametric Clock for a few months, I have to say, I'm mostly happy with this purchase.

I am not a social media maven, and no, I do not need to know my Instagram or YouTube subscriber count every 10 minutes. There's a very niche group of people who do. Instead, I work in an office. I like the idea of the smart clock because I hate looking down at my phone constantly. I could get a smartwatch, but I already have a Fitbit. This clock serves a particular purpose. I put it on a shelf in my office, and have it set to give me the time, weather, sunrise/sunset (I bike to work sometimes, helpful info), a scrolling Twitter feed of news stories, and I have it synced with my calendar. If you're using Outlook, all you have to do is sync with Gmail using a third-party client to generate a public URL, which then easily inputs into this clock. The clock buzzes before meetings (much less disruptive than annoying Outlook reminders) and knows to ding when I have a call or text message coming in on my cell. It's sort of in the background during the workday, but surprisingly useful. During baseball season, I have it display my favorite team's latest scores and upcoming games.

I knocked this down a star because there simply are not enough apps for it. An app for commodity prices, for example, is advertised but now defunct, and lots of apps in their store are the same. The store itself is not that big, so the selection is a bit limited as well. I know the company is investing in an illuminated wall decoration, so I do wonder if they will keep up with consistent updates to this product line. I think the idea is very solid, especially for my business use case, and ultimately I do recommend it with those caveats.
