I think it's great! Use the advanced software to make it way better!
by Rabid Panda (5 out of 5 stars)

I've had the Ruggie for a few days. See below for my thoughts. :)
--Unlike several other users, I did not have any trouble setting the alarm. When I read the other reviews, I was concerned that it would be complicated or take a long time; this was not the case.
--While I think most people could figure out how to set the alarm without the instructions, the instruction booklet is clear and concise. Are there some translation issues? Yes. Totally. However, this did not make the instructions unreadable at all. They're pretty basic.
--You do have to take the little clock out of the Ruggie (or at least pull it out some) to set it. I have not found this to be difficult or problematic in any way.
--You can, in fact, set your alarm for a different time every day by connecting the Ruggie via USB to your computer and downloading the "advanced" software from the Ruggie website. I just did it. It was super easy.
--You can also set up to two alarms per day, and you can add an mp3 greeting (record your own and upload, or download one of theirs and then upload to your Ruggie). All of this was very easy.
--If 3 seconds is not long enough for you to stand on the Ruggie (it wasn't for me--I'll go back to bed after 3 seconds), you can change the settings to require up to 30 seconds of standing. I changed mine to 15 seconds. Again, you can do this using the advanced software.
--Just a note about the advanced software--It's just a pop-up window. It's not fancy. There's nothing "advanced" in terms of using it. Also, when the Ruggie is connected to your computer and you apply the new settings, it happens instantly. There's nothing else fancy required. The software basically runs itself. You just need to connect the Ruggie, change your settings, and hit "apply."
--If you need additional help with the advanced settings, you can easily get instructions at the same time as the software (they pop up together when you download).
--There is an FAQ on the website, and you can e-mail customer service directly for support.
--Finally, I think the rug itself is pretty good quality. It's soft and kind of cushy. One of my dogs keeps trying to use it as a hang out spot, so I have to pick it up off the floor when she's around. :)

I was concerned about the Ruggie when I read the negative reviews, but after using it for a few days and seeing how easy it was to apply the "advanced" software, I'm really, really glad I bought it. I only wish the white one had been less expensive, since I'm not a big fan of the blue one (it reminds me of the color of the disposable hospital gowns where I work). Other than that one minor complaint (if that's really a complaint), I have no other issues to report. If you're having a hard time getting up in the mornings, I would recommend the Ruggie for sure.

UPDATE: I've been using the Ruggie for several weeks, and I still love it. I haven't had a single problem with it. And my life is *so* much better when I'm not late to work every day. I really feel like the negative reviews on here are undeserved, since most of the "issues" reported would be solved by either reading the instructions and/or uploading the "advanced" software.

Great Concept = Not Ready For Market
by Mike (1 out of 5 stars)

The quality of this product is simply unacceptable for the price-point, and I wish I had read some of the reviews (especially those on the kickstarter page). A few positives: it's nice aesthetically, and is a great concept. The negatives: the interface is extraordinarily clumsy (like 1980s clumsy), it is very difficult to set the alarms (having to plug in to computer to change anything but the most basic settings; and even then). Even though the product runs on batteries, if you turn it off one morning so it doesn't go off (using the off-switch), all alarm settings are lost and you have to re-plug in to get it to work. I'm going to give it another few days to see if it grows on me, but will probably be requesting a refund. Great concept = horrible execution.

Good but not perfect
by Tyler M. (3 out of 5 stars)

I was really excited to finally get a chance to get a Ruggie after seeing it on a crowdfunding site.

I needed help getting out of bed in the morning, it gets pretty bad...

So I ordered a Ruggie because I thought it would help and I was super pumped for it. I got it, set it all up and started using it. And I found that it is just okay. There are a lot of flaws in my opinion.
1. If anything is on top of it, the alarm will shut off. Even a hoodie has shut it off. Okay, not a huge deal at all. No deal breakers yet.
2. You have to plug it into the computer to set multiple alarms and once you turn off Ruggie, all of those alarms are now gone when you turn it back on. So you have to go back and plug it into the computer and do all your alarms again. This is extremely annoying when you have a different schedule. Say I wake up at 6 am every weekday and then one week, I have a random Wednesday off so I decide to turn off the Ruggie and sleep in a little. That next Thursday, you will not have an alarm go off. This is something to consider and I did not find this in any of their features or notes.
3. This one is my biggest issue. The maximum amount of time you can stand on this is 1-20 seconds. 20 seconds being the longest until the alarm finally shuts off. I have a real problem with this because once the alarm goes off, I'm standing on Ruggie within 2 seconds. I stand there for 20 seconds and the alarm shuts off. I'm an EXTREMELY heavy sleeper and half the time I'm standing on this, I'm pretty much still sleeping. So immediately after that 20 seconds, I fall back asleep. Luckily, I found this out early and set a backup alarm on my iPhone.

You might be thinking, why don't you just stay up. Believe me, I would LOVE to! Once you get used to Ruggie, you literally turn the alarm off while you are still sleeping and have no recollection of doing so. That is my main issue with this device. Overall, the idea is great. I just wish you could set it to have to stand on it for a minute or two. 20 seconds simply is just too short.

Honest thought: putting your phone across the room is the same exact thing as this.

The other two concerns I highly recommend plugging into the computer and downloading their software
by Ben Aiello (5 out of 5 stars)

I was worried about volume, setting the time, and being able to extend the time necessary to turn off the alarm.

First, you have 5 different sounds to choose from and 5 levels of volume with the highest being very loud, this was my biggest concern and I set mine to a 4.

The other two concerns I highly recommend plugging into the computer and downloading their software. Takes 5 seconds and with the advanced set up you can set different times monday-sunday with 2 different alarm times per day. You can also customize how long you have to stand on the mat for, it says up to 30 seconds but I set mine to 45 and it counts down from 45 so basically as long as you want.

DO NOT BUY
by Brian Berleth (1 out of 5 stars)

Biggest waste of money out there. The product is cheap at best. When you turn off the alarm for the days you don't have to wake up at the butt crack of dawn, it RESETS THE WHOLE THING. So you have to spend 15 minutes resetting the time and alarm time each time after you turn it off. Or you can endure the alarm on your days off...if you truly hate yourself.

Great idea, good proof of concept, ostensibly not ready for mass-market.
by Jesus La Rosa (4 out of 5 stars)

This idea has REAL potential, but the current product is nothing but a proof of concept. I've used the product successfully for a little over three months now, and the upshot is I can't live without it. Having said that, it's not a finished product. First, the product's connectivity with a computer is rudimentary. It doesn't always work, it depends on the windows, and the drivers, etc. (it's not foolproof). So, that obviously needs to be hashed out in future models. Second, I've purchased three of them now and they've come in varying softness, loudness, and USB compatibility. This tells me that they're toying around with the product to see what works best. Third, if the length or your motivational message is longer than seven seconds, it likely won't play. Instead, it will just give you an error and you will need to set it up from scratch. Fourth, there is no easy way to travel with the product. To do so, you have to turn it off, which resets all of your settings, and hope there will be a computer it wants to play nice with wherever you're going. Since my laptop is Windows 10, I've been unable to use it during my travels... which can make you upset after having figured out how to make space for it in your luggage.

All in all, good product. Just don't expect it to be "plug and play." It will take time and patience in order for you to dial it in just right so that it actually helps you get back your mornings. However, it's marvelous once you do.

Works!
by Greg (5 out of 5 stars)

For someone who couldn't get out of bed without snoozing 4 times, this did the trick. I put this in my closet, and I'm up by the time I'm stepping on this beast. It's loud, and via computer, you can set all of the different times for different days. Easy to use and set. Loud...and I mean LOUD. If you have trouble waking up, this is a great solution. My only complaint is that it isn't washable. My dogs sleep on it, and they get it dirty. I'll just buy a new one when it gets too dirty for this obsessive compulsive person.

The Life is Short Lived
by Nicole Feliciani (1 out of 5 stars)

Like many other users commented, it's a great concept, but it needs to be sent back to the drawing board. I hope Ruggie 3.0 is sent to me for free for this review.

I have had my Ruggie for over a year. Unfortunately, the sound has died and so now it's just a floor clock that my cat loves.

The set up is pretty easy once you read the directions and go online. If you're like my 70 year old mom who hasn't figured out yet that you don't need to sign your name when texting, then this might be difficult for you to set up. It includes a USB to setup multi alarms, affirmations and advanced settings such as standing on Ruggie for 30 seconds.

My mat is the cream colored. Thank god I wasn't sent the smurf blue. I would have sent that back. The first Ruggie I received (beta) was file folder shaped. I sent that shit right back when it didn't include any advanced settings. Nice try Ruggie.
*sigh* I guess it's backed to 10 alarms on my iPhone to wake up. Thanks for nothing, Ruggie.

It's a great idea that was poorly executed.
by Sue (1 out of 5 stars)

Except for the difficult setup instructions, I loved it at first. It's a great idea. Now, 5 months later, the time intermittently changes and the alarm may or may not go off. Conveniently for the maker/seller, the return window has closed. I'm disappointed. Save your money.

Not as advertised
by Katie P (1 out of 5 stars)
March 3, 2017

The description says that it needs to feel your feet on the matt to turn the alarm off but the longest the alarm will stay on is 30 seconds. Worse than a regular alarm clock which stays on till you touch it. Mine is going back, it's an expensive foot mat and my son is still in bed sleeping till I come wake him up anyway.
