Product Description

Yaktrax Summit Traction Cleats are heavy duty traction devices that are ideal for winter hikes or backcountry excursions when you don’t quite need a mountaineering crampon; they provide maximum traction on slopes covered in snow and ice. Lightweight Yaktrax Summit cleats weigh just 17 ounces, making it easy to throw them in a pack to be prepared for whatever trail conditions the weather serves. Summit’s triangular carbon steel spikes bite into packed snow and ice, providing superior grip. Featuring the patented Boa closure system, the Summit offers a customized fit that is both comfortable and secure. The Boa closure system is intuitive and easy to use, with a closure design utilizing steel lace, nylon guides, and a mechanical reel. The Boa system was designed to address the many deficiencies of traditional closures. Summit Cleats also feature segmented sole plates that flex with the foot to prevent snow build up. Durable natural rubber outer bands and welded stainless steel chain links ensure Summit Traction Cleats will last for many winters to come. Yaktrax Summit Traction Cleats are available in sizes to fit most footwear: Small (fits W6.5-10, M5-8.5); Medium (fits W10.5-12.5, M9-11); Large (fits W13-15, M11.5-13.5); X-Large (fits W15.5+, M 14+). For oversized footwear such as insulated winter boots, Yaktrax recommends purchasing one size larger than your normal shoe size.

Not suited for heavy duty work in the slightest.

Bought these micro spikes in February of this year which was only 3 months ago and have used them maybe less then a dozen times.

For the most part they're not a bad micro spike but after only a handful of times using them they started to rust at all the metal parts and on my last time using them the rivet popped out of the rubber and the rubber broke in half.

This was extremely disappointing as I was on the other side of a pretty steep icy escarpment that I had just traveled across and needed to go back the way I came.

It's very very frustrating when the gear you buy to do a certain task breaks down on you at the top of a mountain. There should be a one year warranty on this product but I can't find anymore to return them or get a refund. I guess this is why you should buy all your heavy duty and expensive hiking gear in stores so you can actually have someone to talk to in the event of it breaking down.

Would like a refund or return, not suitable for any heavy duty use and in my opinion not a very well built unit.

Slick design and good for mild walks through the forest - but for that price tag you could buy 5 pairs of cheap micro spikes that will do the same job.

From Hero to Zero

I was delighted to find these seemingly wonderful ice cleats on sale! Like a little boy waiting for Christmas morning I watched the quick delivery process and with wagging tail enthusiasm my bestest buddy and I headed off into the woods on a well used and very icy snowmobile trail through the woods. I was impressed with the technology of a BOA closure to tighten the cleats to my boots. The cleats fit well. The carbon steel teeth bite into the ice amazingly well which made walking on treacherous, rough ice easy. Wow... a product that fulfilled expectation! Take that winter! You won't keep me from following my four legged friend into the great white wilderness! HAHAHAH AHAHH HAHAHAHA!
20 minutes into the cleats maiden voyage and the BOA wire broke. Just broke. It didn't snag on something. My dog didn't bite it. It wasn't cut by a Game Warden in an attempt to free me from some entanglement. It just broke. It even gave a "Pop" sound even...

I couldn't believe it at first. It was all wrong. These things retail for approximately $100.00 and seemed to be of such great quality and design. But... there I was. 20 minutes into a walk I would never have attempted if I hadn't had ice cleats on with a failed piece of crap dangling on my right foot.

Now don't worry folks. I did make it out alive and no rescue was needed BUT I did swear. A lot. Like Yosemite Sam... I was and am still very disappointed in this product. They present very well and worked wonderfully but gosh darn it, I think it fair to expect more that 20 minutes out of a product that, for the asking price, should have lasted more than 20 minutes. I returned them. There are other options out there in this category.

So beware...

glued to the hardwater while ice fishing

I bought these for walking across frozen lakes while ice fishing. Today, I spent 10 hours on a frozen lake that was bare ice with a 1/2 inch of water on top of it. It was a veritable skating rink, and several kids were actually using ice skates to get around on the lake. With these cleats, I had better traction than I have with running shoes on dry pavement. No slipping, no sliding, no skidding, just 100% traction. The boa closure is what sealed the deal for me, as traction cleats are a pain to put on and take off. With the boa closure, these were easy on and easy off, and never loosened or came off while in use. The spikes are too aggressive for any use on pavement or flooring, but they work perfectly for ice fishing. I even tried skipping and running on the ice and had no problems. All my ice fishing buddies want a pair, but with the steep price we will see if they actually pull the trigger.

Well done, but too expensive

I had given up on Yaktrax because I easily destroyed the ones that have the coiled wire grips.

The steel teeth are good so far. They may wear down over time, we'll see. It would be nice if Yaktrax made the steel teeth replaceable somehow. Also, these are overpriced, in my opinion. Open question as to whether it would be better to buy a cheaper product once a season rather than invest in these. They may have cost more than the boots they are on :-)

Product failed on third use. One of the key rivets ripped out of the flimsy rubber while hiking down an icy trail, rendering it unusable. Metal rivets in soft rubber are not going to last well. Metal plates on bottom appear to be held on rubber primarily with glue. These are definitely not "heavy duty".

These really keep you from falling on ice. They are tricky to put on and not comfortable for walking on bare pavement but the safety factor is worth the hassles.

I bought these for a friend. We opened them without reading the directions. There is a band that goes around the outside. We didn't read the instructions and cut the band on one of the cleats. I probably will buy another pair because they seem really great. For those looking at comments, DO NOT CUT THE BAND ON THE CLEATS. READ INSTRUCTIONS.
