GERBER nailed on this one!
by Chivas1908 (4 out of 5 stars)

Let me start out by saying that I have owned an older Gerber multi tool for a long time, I also just recently purchased a Leatherman Wingman, and a good friend of mine gave me a Swiss Army multi as well. Even tough all of them offer a multitude of functions and value, I have to say as of now this is my favorite.

BIIIIG!! PROS: One handed access to three functions that in my opinion are the most commonly used wich include: (In no particular order) pliers, screwdriver and knife. With these three, within easy reach, you can acomplish a lot of tasks wether you're at home or at the job site.
.

CONS: The biggest con would be the size, It is to big to be a pocket tool, so the easiest way to carry it, ( Short of being inside a pack, wich would sort of defeat the easy acces) would be in it's sheath hanging from your belt. My one issue with the sheath is that it sticks out quite a bit ( But this is to be expected from a heavy duty tool like this ). Also when I compare it with my Swiss Army multi, it seems a bit flimsy.

If you are looking for an EDC type tool (That's a little on the heavy side and bulky but full of features ) THIS IS IT!. But all this beauty comes with a price: at just a little over a hundred dollars it wouldn't be everybody's cup of tea.

I gave it 4 stars because of the bulkiness.

Crappy manufacturing on both Gerber's I received. Won't be buying another.
by DD (1 out of 5 stars)

I've returned 2 of these Gerber's just this week. Crappy manufacturing on both.

First came with the center drive head crooked. Would hold a bit but couldn't be used as a 1/4 driver. Amazon sent a replacement.
2nd one had the same crooked head so I figured I would just deal with it and grind it even later. First day wearing it to work and the spring that opens the pliers broke.

I thought about just dealing with it as I really liked the design of this tool. Once the spring broke, it actually puts drag on the hinge when trying to open the pliers. I could live with a non spring pliers just like the leathermans but this just made one handed operation impossible. Sucks since the design being one handed operational was the biggest selling point for me.

Center aligned bit driver is the best part of this tool
by TopDog (5 out of 5 stars)

Waited until I carried this a while and got some experience with it before writing a review. Obviously the best part of this is the bit driver tool. Having it centered makes it easy to use. However these muti-tools are a compromise and do many things adequately but none better than a tool designed for that purpose. Same holds true for the bit driver, it is not nearly as strong as a single handled bit driver. So be careful using this. Trying to take screws out of a door I had to stop because I thought I was going to bend the tool. I also own Leatherman and feel they are a bit better made but the center drive is far better than the Leatherman for using bits. The bit driver is magnetic and you can use any 1/4" standard bit in this. Leatherman you have to use proprietary bits sold by Leatherman. I keep the Gerber in my range bag and it is great for tightening set screws in sights and grip screws.

This multitool is heavy duty.
by John B. (4 out of 5 stars)

This multitool is heavy duty. Some design flaws in my opinion that I hope Gerber rethinks and does better with a later model, not that this will wear out anytime soon. Pros: the blade takes and keeps a very sharp edge, the blade seems heavy duty, the screw driver arm is very heavy duty and has no flex on even very tight screws, the screw driver arm is just as long as the blade and well centered within the tool, one hand plyer slide is ergonomic and smooth, spring opening plyers once they are slid out, replaceable wire cutters in the plyers, plyers are heavy duty. I have no fear of any individual tool on this multitool breaking. Cons: the plyers aren't a very sharp needle nose, they are very blunt and make some things hard to grab, the blade seems to long. If u were trying to use it as a scalpel for precise cuts, the blade would be resting between your thumb and forefinger with the weight of the tool coming down. I have big hands and it still does this. Not everyone uses their multitool this way though so don't let blade length b the be all end all of this review.

Great for HVAC

I oversee a Million and a half sq foot building mechanically while I'm on shift. Its not practical to carry ALL my tools with me at all times. I did however carry enough hand tools to choke a horse. I find the center-drive to be my favorite multi tool of the 20 or so that I've owned in the past 20 years. This whole fan boy love that goes on with multi tools is almost as bad as the video game console wars.

This is my very first Gerber, I own over a dozen Leatherman (which I love) , a "Buck tool" and other brands that have come and gone.

By far, this is the best multi tool for what I do for work.

It might not be the best tool to have if you live in Siberia and need to build a house in 10 minutes like some of these "Leatherman fanboys" act like thats what we all need, but the bit size and the extended arm that holds them which is also centered (best thing since sliced bread IMO) with the spring open pliers, are just unbeatable for my money.

I have a million tools at my house, even though I dont need another center-drive, I might just buy one to keep in my junk drawer.

Very well designed - USA Made
by Tyler Durden (5 out of 5 stars)

I like the way the pliers come out rather than the Leatherman style of folding the tool over. And yes, I have had to deploy the pliers with one hand as they show in the video. The offset of the screwdriver is much more ergonomic. Using different heads is a huge plus. I decided to use it to assemble a lot of furniture, rather than getting a couple of screwdrivers and pliers. I did not feel like I had to compromise anything to get the job done.

To me my Leatherman is now a great tool to have in an emergency, but the Gerber is something I will use much more often. If you are deciding between the two, I think this is the one to get. FYI - I am comparing it to my Leatherman Wave that I bought when they first came out. I don't know how they compare to new Leathermans, I can only say mine has an outstanding finish and polish to it. The Gerber not so much, but I did not buy it to look pretty.

Being made in USA is a big deciding factor for me. I believe if you buy it you will be happy with the purchase. It is well worth the cost

Hvac tech Approved! UPDATED (not good)
by Thomas C (1 out of 5 stars)
June 10, 2019

Okay so I'm an hvac tech and multitools are a huge help from stripping wires to pulling spade connectors off rusted terminals. Long story short this thing rocks. I considered all the top Leathermans, SOGs and this took the cake. The bit driver is flat out amazing for a multi tool. I installed 2 wall outlets with this and fixed a gas fireplace as well. The slide out pliers are amazing when you have one hand holding a live wire and the other just flips out pliers. Used the cats paw to pull 3 nails out of an old outlet secured to a wall stud. No issues. I am only disappointed in the cutters part, they work in cutting and stripping but not as good as the leatherman. I will sharpen and see how this improves. Overall worth it I'd your like me and will drop 80$ on a multitool.

Update:

Junk. Hear me out, it's okay but my Leatherman rev and style both cut and strip wires better so pliers and cutters are junk. Bit attachment is great but that's it! Blade steel is very soft and never lasts, if I could get my money back from Gerber or Amazon I would but I have no way to request it back. After 1 month of use it sits in a drawer and my 30$ rev is my daily. DO NOT BUY

2 years in!
by Patrick (5 out of 5 stars)

I'm a tool guy. I buy the best that I can afford and look for quality. I'm a professional tradesman and use my tools daily. This one makes the cut. This isn't the review of "OH, it's pretty and it's new!!!" This is the review after two years of use. Generally speaking, I'm a Leatherman guy. I got my first Leatherman (the original PST) when I was 10. Now that was and is a high quality, well made tool. With that said, this Gerber cures a couple sins of many multi tools. You can open the knife with one hand while the tool is in its "closed position. The biggest point is the bit drive and it being centered on the main axis of the tool. The "flip out" pliers are handy, but that's a Gerber thing. I'll say that it's not as sturdy as a high end Leatherman, but it's handiness outweighs that (in my opinion). If you want an anvil, go Leatherman. If you want something that you can pull with one hand and have access to pliers, cutters, and a knife...this is the best. Frankly I can't comment on the quality of the blade because I carry a good Buck pocket knife with a clip. I wear this gem on my belt and utilize the pliers and drive tool the most. If you want rock solid stuff, carry a tool pouch stock with Klein, Knipex, Snap-On, & Ridgid. If you need useable, fast, quality in a pinch...this just fits.
