Fine idea, perhaps, but.... No
by John W. (3 out of 5 stars)
July 22, 2017

Seem like a good idea, but... No. Sizing is way off large, easily 3/4" of extra length to trip on at the front. To get the length right would likely result in way too tight a shoe at the heel. They do compress/flatten down for ease of packing/carrying as an after hike shoe. But are not as light as in comparison to crocs. Lighter, yes, but not enough to warrant the cost.

Could not envision walking, running or performing any high activity sport in these as advertised. The material has too much friction to skin. Hanging out or short walks would be fine but anything beyond would be uncomfortable if not blistery.

Managed to find a croc-copy that was actually lighter and more comfortable at 1/8th the cost.

In my opinion the high price (>twice crocs) is not justified for something that is not more capable.

An improvement on the original Ultras
by Amazon Customer (4 out of 5 stars)

Great shoes, much improved over the disaster that was Ultra 2's; an improvement on the original Ultras in that they are somewhat more durable, and less prone to the stepping-on-a-banana peel effect the original Ultras had when you stepped onto a wet surface e.g. wet tile floor. These are my favorite summer shoes.

They do suffer from one deficiency relative to the original Ultras, and other Vivobarefoot shoes. They seem to be slightly too narrow. The correct size feels just a bit tight, go one size larger, and the width is fine, but I am tripping over the toe because the shoe is slightly too long. This problem is not severe, but I wish the shoes were sized the same as most of the other VBs.

Love these shoes.
by Roger S. (5 out of 5 stars)

I was initially skeptical but purchased these shoes for a 3 week trip to SE Asia, thinking I would use them as water shoes for part of a trek in the jungle and not much else. Instead I have not taken them off in the last 3 weeks, except to sleep. They are great for walking in the city, I used them on the whole long jungle trek, through Hanoi, Bangkok and lots of places in between.

Narrower than Ultra II
by kedar iyer (4 out of 5 stars)

These are good shoes, but I ended up returning them because they are narrower than the Ultra II model that I was wearing before this. I wish they had the kept the width of the Ultra II, especially in the midsole.

Rubbery and tight
by Nick G (3 out of 5 stars)
January 7, 2018

In comparison to Ultra I and II, these are very rubbery and feel a lot tighter even in cases where the laces are extended all the way. At the same time, the toes feel longer and I find myself catching on steps with them. That's not as easy to wear in everyday situations as the older models that felt more "foamy." This could be a better water shoe, but it's not as great for daily wear.

I'd give Ultra I a 4 star (deduct a star for short lifespan), but sadly they are no longer for sale. Ultra II feel too hard in comparison: I'd prefer more flexibility of version I, but they are worth 4 stars as well overall. Ultra III feel like they've been completely redesigned for a different purpose.

Really really cool shoes
by KR (5 out of 5 stars)

Bought these for my husband and they are SO COOL! Not only do they look awesome, they have a really interesting look to them, but they also are totally functional and hold up SO WELL! My husband is really hard on his shoes and goes through them so fast, but these seem indestructible. :) He's had them for almost a year now and they still are in great shape. They are amphibious shoes so he can wear them for pretty much any occasion--sometimes, he can even wear them to work meetings and get away with it! He got the green color and calls them his algae shoes. :) I would definitely recommend them. He normally wears a size 13 and we got a 13 and they fit well.

Really stiff
by Gus (2 out of 5 stars)
July 25, 2019

I got these because I had the previous version several years ago and loved them. These seem like cheap nock-offs of the original. They are much thicker and very stiff. Instead of bending as you step they crease particularly on the top which then cuts into the toes. This makes them unwearable without socks which kind of defeats much of the purpose of having them. Note as others have said, they are larger than other Vivo shoes. I have (and have loved) several other pairs of Vivo shoes, but they struck out on this one.

Nice shoe, but are considerably longer than the other ...
by Curt Schatz (4 out of 5 stars)
August 4, 2017

Nice shoe, but are considerably longer than the other (6 or 7 pairs) Vivobarefoot shoes I've purchased. The also feel a bit thicker through the sole, and don't give the "barefoot" feel I'm used to from the brand. Still, they are nice comfortable shoes.

These are a comfortable barefoot shoe with just the right amount of sole. They will wear out in a couple years, other shoes wore out every six months.
