I want to start out with the good. It is a great collectors piece
by David Caldwell (3 out of 5 stars)

I want to start out with the good. It is a great collectors piece, it is vibrant and clear. The artwork is stylish and very well done. Unfortunately for me, I was looking for something a bit more functional while this is a bit more collector. The stein is "over-the-top" top heavy and cannot stay upright with the lid open. The hinge has no resistance with a long draw making it difficult to not close harder then acceptable considering it is ceramic on ceramic and feels like it will chip if not extremely careful. Overall, this is a nice stein for a SW collector who will baby it when it is sparingly bought out and used. I would not recommend this for somebody looking for a regular use stein.

Seems like a lower quality medal
by Seth Andrews (2 out of 5 stars)

Don't let the picture fool you. What none of these reviews say is that the pieces holding it together, the metal "S" at the top, is a flat, non embezzled piece you see in the picture. It's not as polished as the pictures either. Seems like a lower quality medal. "Concept" display and real thing seem to be far between in comparison. The painting is also pretty flawed and some of the lines were poorly detailed. The inside is supposed to be completely and evenly sealed, so you can actually put liquids in it, but it's not. This feels like a knock off of some sort. It does look good from a distance so it just sits on display, high up so people can't see the poor design. :S

I was super excited for this, and that excitement was shot down the moment I opened it. Sorry Underground I can't honestly give this a good review with the level of quality it is. Perhaps better products in the future. My fingers are crossed.

Heavy Lid, Needs Redesign, Neat Collectible
by Alan C. (3 out of 5 stars)

A beer stein does two things. One, you drink beer out of it. Two...

Okay a beer stein does ONE thing.

Lets start with good, this thing look amazing. Out of the SW collection of steins, Fett Vader and Chewy, R2 looks the best since the body shape looks the closest. It is also BIG, and taller then my german steins. This would be great gift for any collectors or fans.

The bad: it is completely unwieldy as a drinking utensil. The lid is HEAVY. I use both thumbs when i operate the lid, to prevent the trigger from scratching handle when the lid is opening, and to prevent the lid from slaming down and chipping the rest of the cup when closing. Oh, and you have to close the lid when you put the stein down, or the whole thing falls backwards from the weight of the lid. Regular steins has I think pewter or aluminium lids that are light and wont damage the body, even if you let it close itself. You will need those long wire bottle cleaning thing to wash the inside, there are concave spots where the feet are, that you wont be able to see or reach directly.

A real stein costs $70+, this R2 stein is $50. I wish it worked as a cup that i didnt have to exert any effort to use. As a collectible I can give 5 stars but as a stein...not so much.

As a fun item for display, it is worth the price.

Arrived early and is as advertised but condition is everything with collectibles. In that this stein is not part of my serious collection, it will do. If I wanted it for a serious collectible, I would return it. First, the box was previously opened (lid tabs were pulled out and showed reverse bend) and a bottom corner of the inner package styrofoam is damaged yet the box is not. Other steins in this series came with a plastic sheet surrounding them which this one did not. There is a small chip in the handle along with black marks of some sort in several places. A slight slash can be seen on the body, possibly a mold defect.

But this is being "serious collectible" picky.

As to other reviews about a rubber bumper on the lid: This is not an everyday drinking cup. It is a display/collectible and therefore no "bumper" should be there. If that's what you want, buy a $5 molded plastic cup.

As a fun item for display, it is worth the price.

Cheaply made and breaks easily
by JR (1 out of 5 stars)

Poor quality ceramic. I had the lid open, holding it by the metal handle, and accidentally let go of the handle and the lid dropped. Now it has a fine hairline fracture that goes throughout the entire stein. So be careful with it, as it's not forgiving and not really functional. My old, cheap ceramic coffee mugs hold up way better than this so this ceramic isnt great and breaks VERY easily. It's more for display if you want for collecting but still cheaply made and not worth the price.

Meh......HAD potential.
by Phil A. (2 out of 5 stars)

The item looks as pictured. It has a reflective high gloss finish. My issue is the one I received had three small chips on the face, of all places. The piece was packaged well, wrapped in a plastic bag and sandwiched tightly between snug fitting styrofoam. Not sure if this is actually a quality control issue. Also, the head is attached off center....looking slightly to the right. I'm not exactly happy with this for the cost.

Quality Control is Not Top Notch
by AZ Cowpoke (3 out of 5 stars)
April 5, 2016

As a collector, I am somewhat disappointed in the quality of the glazing. Coming from China however, it's fairly good with glazing mars along the rim of the lid, especially in the back near the hinge. It will look okay on the shelf. I don't return it as a replacement would likely be worse.

The design is good and it's a good addition to my collection of steins.

It was going to be an amazing Valentine's gift for him
by Elizabeth Heimann (2 out of 5 stars)

I just got it in the mail today. My boyfriend loves Star Wars and I was so excited for this. It was going to be an amazing Valentine's gift for him. But the second I took the R2-D2 box out of the package I could hear the pieces of glass literally rolling around inside the mug. It was badly broken in two spots. I am currently waiting to receive my new one. It is just such a cool frickin' mug. I wish it wasn't delivered broken. :(

terribly painted, and so fragile to be non-functional
by DWH (1 out of 5 stars)
August 22, 2016

This product is incredibly low quality, terribly painted, and so fragile to be non-functional. It will not standup on its own if the lid is opened, but that's not what makes it so non-functional. I was holding the stein by its handle, and simply drying off the inside with a paper towel, and the handle snapped clean off. See attached photo. I'm not exactly the Hulk. The ceramic felt very soft and porous, unlike any other ceramic pottery I've ever had. I cannot recommend this product if you're actually interested in using it for libations. Even if you just want it for a mantle piece in your collection, the painting was very lob sided and poorly done. It didn't line up with the contours of R2-D2 at all. Save your money.

Great Item - But careful with lid
by Mc (4 out of 5 stars)
May 1, 2017

One flaw is the lack of a rubber cushion to prevent chipping and feels like cannot be used everyday- but otherwise item is great - as with all the star wars steins they all have the same issues - i bought another one and it already chipped on the lid due to the lack of a protective rubber or seal
