Nice try, good v1.0 product-needs better accuracy and materials
by Harrison (3 out of 5 stars)
September 16, 2017

This is one of those products that I really, really want to like for taking a very industrial design focus to what was previously a very uninspired product area. Clearly, a lot of thinking went into this product and they have succeeded in several areas in advancing product design for glucometers. Over time Glucose meters have painfully slowly made advances-today the best ones are much smaller, use tinier drops of blood, allow blood draws from other areas than fingers. Some of the meters, in addition to keeping logs, upload these via wi-fi or bluetooth. There have not been many of these that work well.

Pros:
-The meter is small and portable.
-The uploading and integration with smart phones, while not perfect, is a step forward to prior meters. The setup is not easy but once setup seems to work well.
-The unit works with minimal drop size in blood
-The unit is quick to display a reading.
-Long battery life without recharging (this was an achilles heel for the VarioIQ which had terrible battery life)
-Looks stylish, which is a new thing in glucose meters

Cons:
-This is a critical one...accuracy. A lack of accuracy would damn the whole effort. My first One Drop did not work at all. The readings were off by +/- 50. They did not agree with 2 other meters I had to test with. Disappointing. I called customer service (tough to reach) and got a human to talk to (difficult) and there was resistance to own this failure. They sent me an agomatrix testing solutoin (what? I'm QA for your product now? Isn't some test like this part of shipping out from the factory?). The unit tested off in accuracy. After another slow 2 weeks, a replacement arrived. Why the delay? Fortunately I had a backup meter and supplies). The new unit seems better in accuracy so far.
-Design: As said in many reviews-nice overall design. Something Apple inspired.
-Materials/durability: Another failed aspect. They used ABS plastic with a chrome spray on top rather than stainless or anodized aluminum. This gives the meter and blood draw device an insubstantial feel and frankly feels cheaply made and fragile. This is not a cheap meter price wise, so they should have tried harder with better materials.
-Carrying case: A for creativity I suppose, but in practice this doesn't work. First, I don't want a medical device exposed to whatever is in my backpack and other dirt. I need a case that covers the entire setup.
-Ports: True to apple fashion-there are none-the link to smart phone works or doesn't. A USB C or headphone port would have been nice to link to a computer for doctors to review results. It's not trivial to email them data to load into a medical record system. I get that this is a trade off for size vs port inclusion.

Overall: Feels like a very decent v1.0 product. I hope that Apple or someone acquires them as part of a health focus product set to link with smart phones and revs the product to v2.0 with better materials and accuracy.

Does not come with 100 test strips as stated in the Description.

Seems great so far. Was accurate with my other meter on first test.

BUT read EVERYTHING

Says in the About Item: Description: Product Description: under Affordable, Convenient Supplies

Every One Drop | Chrome comes with 100 test strips. Subscribe to a One Drop | Test Strips plan to get all the test strips you need delivered directly to your door for less than a co-pay. No prescriptions, no insurance, no appointments, and no hassles.

I mean a meter that comes with 100 test strips, sign me up!!! However, then, being the astute consumer, read the rest... the meter comes with 25 test strips, which it states under Features & Details. I do like the meter and have no plan to return or anything BUT I have alerted Amazon. Just a little bit deceptive on the advertising, there OneDrop.

Buyer Beware

This meter gave consistently high readings that were always 25-45 points above my blood drawns! Had to give a ⭐️ just to post my review

Good try, a tad deceptive though
by Amazon Customer (3 out of 5 stars)

Good try, a tad deceptive though. Given the price and the fact that it's sold in the Apple Store I had hoped Chrome meant CHROME. It does not. It's plastic like all the rest. An iPhone this is not. In addition, the case holds the lancing device, meter, and test strips. So where do the extra lancets go?? Maybe I can put them in with the test strips, I have yet to check. First thoughts only, have not tested accuracy as of yet. First impressions only.

Worthless
by Kindle Customer (1 out of 5 stars)

This blood sugar testing device is completely worthless. Results were 38 points (lower) off compared to my One Touch Ultra Mini blood glucose device. Now I know why the One Touch is the device my insurance covers.

Feels like a beta version of a potentially great healthcare product
by Windchyme50 (3 out of 5 stars)
September 29, 2017

It's pretty. I like the iOS software (free on iTunes for iPhone). I agree with some of the complaints of other reviewers, though. The case looks spiffy but is not actually as convenient as the little zipper pouch thingies that my other meters have -- stuff tends to fall out and whose idea is it to have a delicate little meter only halfway protected, sticking out of the case? Some other folks have noted that the parts fall out of the fake leather slots, so here's a hint: if you stomp on the case a bit (second hint: TAKE THE METER OUT FIRST!), it flattens the thing a bit and that happens less. (YMMV, esp if you are doing the stomping with your jeep's front tire, etc.)

So the meter itself so far seems to work okay in terms of getting a reading. It is a bit slippery so if you are setting your (also shiny, slippery) phone down in your lap to catch the data, set your tiny shiny slippery meter down next to it, and the round, easy to roll away slippery and badly constructed finger puncher next to that, things fall around a lot.

I do get slightly different numbers than my OneTouch mini, but then I have several OneTouches and get different numbers on them, too, and even doing two consecutive readings on one of those, you get some variability so I have no idea which is righter or how much precision to expect actually in any blood glucose readers.

The bigger problem for me is the meter's crappy syncing with my iPhone One Drop app. I agree with one reviewer: I'm getting it to sync less than half the time. Of course, maybe once a day it will sync and then it wants to download all the new, previously un-synced readings, so I suppose that over the course of a long lifetime of readings, it would not make much difference. But I am considering paying out of pocket for this thing (and strips by the hundreds) on the appealing assumptions that anything that gets me to check my BS more often is going to only help me with my diabetes regulation and that the instant payoff of the phone picking up the data is therefore a good thing. (I know it's dumb: The prospect of a shortened lifespan, diabetic neuropathy, blindness, amputation and dialysis and so on SHOULD do the trick as far as getting me to take frequent readings, but I confess that few far in the future threats are as incentivizing as an immediate, cheery flashy light on my phone responding to a good glucose reading.) But if the meter and phone only sync at random intervals, it starts to seem less sensible to subscribe to their services when my Blue Cross gives me OneTouch strips for free.

In short, so far I like the glitz and the promise but they need to improve this thing. It feels like a beta version of a potentially great product.

Test against your old meter and doctor's meter to confirm accuracy.
by Lentsgyrl V (3 out of 5 stars)
May 28, 2018

Beautiful product. I didn't rate higher because first meter was giving incorrect readings. 20-30 points different. Tested against old meter and my doctor's meter. Contacted customer service and they promptly responded. Sent a solution to me and based on the readings it was confirmed the meter was not functioning correctly. They promptly sent a replacement device. Currently it is 3-5 points different from my old meter. I'll test again against my doctor's meter. However, I feel a lot more confident using it. Also, they don't provide enough lancets since they suggest changing the lancet very often. Overall, I am going to love the product. I love the Bluetooth feature and the chrome is pretty. It's pkastic but it's pretty.

Am I missing something? This meter is wildly inaccurate!
by TB Hines (1 out of 5 stars)
July 10, 2019

I cant believe how inaccurate this meter is. I bought it last week and it worked great. I was pretty happy with it so I bought another one. After a week of use the test results went mysteriously higher and higher with each over several days no matter what I did. So I did a test with the meter Ive been using for years and found the results to be within range. The results I had just gotten was 45 points higher! So just to be sure, I checked my blood again with the new meter I had just gotten in the mail from the company: it was 64 points higher than my old standby!! I am currently waiting for tge company to respond to my email as to why or how their products are worth having if the results cant be trusted.

Reading are always off.
by Jason (1 out of 5 stars)
June 27, 2019

This thing doesn't work properly at all. It's always 25-45 off in any direction. I could test myself first thing in the morning and get 198 then seconds later test my blood again at 145. I just tested with a different meter and I'm at 90. I loved the look of this thing and wanted it to work but sadly you guys need to put in an update or something.
