Perfect Toy for STEM Learning
by K. Chiu (5 out of 5 stars)
October 12, 2017

My engineer brother has been wanting to get his 2 young kids (ages 8 and 10) more into STEM. Not too long ago, I came across some articles online about toy robots for STEM education which lead me to finding Jimu Robot. They're basically...TOY ROBOTS... how cool is that?!

Anyways, I ended up ordering some other sets as gifts before. This time, I ordered this the GrabberBot Kit since it's the cheapest of the Jimu Robot line. Regardless, these kids love it too. They built GrabberBot together as a family and my brother loves playing with it just as much as his kids do. Great product.

AMAZING gift for little kids!
by Karissa (5 out of 5 stars)

I bought this as a gift for my 6 year old nephew. He absolutely LOVED it! It's a joy to see the excitement and happiness on his face when he opened the box and saw the product. I especially love that it syncs seamlessly with his iPad and he is taught to build the robot step-by-step. It was easy enough for him to follow along with the instructions. When he needed help, his parents who are not tech-savvy, were able to help him. As an aunt, it's reassuring to see him play with something that is helping his brain develop and grow in a positive way and not just mindlessly staring at the screen. I would recommend this as a gift for all young kids.

A great starter set for a 5th grader
by Reiko (5 out of 5 stars)

My 10 year old started coding class in 5th grade using the Lego Mindstorm. However I wasn't going to drop nearly $400 to see if he would continue to enjoy it. This was highly rated so we bought it for him for Christmas. It was a hit. He downloaded the app on his Kindle, which doubles as instructions and allowed him to fully spin the next step to view the construction at all angles. He has built both recommended models that come with this. I only wish that they made an expansion kit for this. It is block-based coding and I highly recommend this for anyone who's child is showing interest in coding robots.

Very Cool and Innovative!

We bought this JIMU robot for my 8 yr. old son. He was super excited to see a robot that he can build himself.

He with his dad really enjoyed building it out using their iPad instead of a paper manual. It is so much fun because you can see the simulation on screen and touch and rotate the images while building robot at each step. So it is easy to visualize and also drag and drop makes it easier for kids to program it. At the same time it teaches the basic concepts of programming and coding and how robots work etc.

The JIMU robots are very cool and innovative toys which helps to develop kids' imagination and interest in coding. And all this while using their favorite tool i.e. iPad or phone.

It's nice when a products value is obvious

My 8 year old Grandson, really enjoys this robot. Building it and using it are both educational and fun. Seems to be good quality. However, what would I know?...I grew up playing with Tinker Toys and green plastic army men. (my fav was the guy kneeling with the bazooka....am I allowed to say that?)

At any rate, this robot was appreciated by him and therefor by me.

Flimsy, short wires
by robert (1 out of 5 stars)
April 21, 2018

Wires are flimsy and get pulled out of terminals, rendering the servo motor completely useless. This happened on day one within the first 30 minutes of playing and I'm pretty upset that such a simple thing has tarnished my experience. Jimu should spend the extra 2 cents to make these wires more robust. This is pretty ridiculous.

Good as a toy; Lot to improve on coding front
by Ashish (3 out of 5 stars)
July 14, 2018

This is an excellent toy for kids who are looking for lego type activity with additional to control and play with phone/tablet.

If you are looking to make kids understand coding or help them develop code to make certain saved sequence of actions then it has a lot to improve. Actions are not in sync with code. Certain actions like turning has additional movement which are not needed. Then if there are instructions to multiple servo motor, it does not wait to finish first action/move before starting next.

Also, while saving it does not store times for actions. My daughter wanted it to move slowly for her sequence. She has to load and adjust timing everytime.

We are using Android 7.0 on LG-M322.

Fantastic Way to Learn Robotics & Programming
by Deaglan Q. (5 out of 5 stars)
December 22, 2017

My 11 year old daughter assembled this with minimal assistance from me and is delighted with it. Total assembly time was around two hours for us. The entire instruction guide is part of the app but it's very easy to follow and due to its digital nature, allows you to rotate the model in each step with standard pinch-zooming.

Immediatly upon connecting the completed robot, you can remotely control it via the app interface. What impressed me the most was the ability for children to learn the basics of programming through a simple drag and drop interface.

This would have blown my socks off as a kid. Total Red Ryder BB gun item. I've attached a video of her first test run.

Online instructions are great, my 8 year old daughter assembled 95% on her own. Wires are short and put strain on connectors, 1 of our wires broke while operating the unit. I am an electronics tech so not much of a problem for me to fix, but a novice is SOL.

Nice kit, easy to assemble
by Richard Williams (4 out of 5 stars)
December 12, 2017

Nice kit, easy to assemble. Software not so good. I could not download it on 2 different android devices, my Imac, or my laptop. Eventually I did get it on my Ipad. I bought it to check it out as a potential gift for a 12 year old. I don't know if they have an ipad at home, so I suspect I won't order this one as a christmas gift.

I wish the description was more specific as to computer hardware needs and the software was a little more informative on the home page to help get started.
