Perfecting my favorite smart scale.
by Thomas Wagner (5 out of 5 stars)
September 27, 2017

I just received my QardioBase 2 but I previously purchased the QardioBase Smart Digital Bathroom Scale: Qardio Fitness, BMI, Weight & Body Composition Analyzer - Bluetooth & WiFi Sync with App, Opal White
. The QardioBase became my favorite Smart Scale, I liked it much better than the other smart scales I owned, but it had one problem in particular.

First, what I like about the QardioBase, and now the QardioBase 2. It tracks my weight, body fat, and muscle and presents it to me in an easy to track app on my iPhone, and integrates the information with Apple Health. While I don't use them I appreciate that it has settings to turn off some of these for people with pacemakers, and has a special tracking mode for pregnant women when they set their due date.

But what really made it great is the haptic feedback it gives both when you get on the scale and when it has figured out your weight. On my previous scale I had to keep looking down to see if it had figured out my weight and that movement impacted the measurement. With QardioBase I step on, feel it vibrate, wait for the second vibration then step off to read the display. It is awesome and I feel like I am getting more accurate readings than on my previous scales.

Now the problem with the first QardioBase was it wobbled. It didn't feel very sturdy and you would some times lose your balance when stepping on it. The company tried to fix the issue by sending you extra feet and they improved the situation but there were still some issues. That is completely gone with QardioBase 2. No wobble at all. As a matter of fact it no longer really has feet. Just sits directly on the floor.

As an added bonus is also takes care of the other minor complaint I had about the original QardioBase: it uses 8 AAA batteries. The QardioBase 2 is rechargeable with micro USB. The manual claims it should last a year without recharging but I just received my scale so I haven't verified that.

Overall I am very happy with the QardioBase 2. Improved in all the right ways to make it as close to the perfect smart scale as you can get.

Extremely Disappointed
by Wayne H (1 out of 5 stars)

Most frustrating setup of a device I've ever encountered and I'm pretty tech savvy. Constantly just toggles back and forth between my name and "guest"? Have tried resetting device twice . Can't find a phone number anywhere for tech support! No chat option. Only a fast path email. Sent in numerous questions and waited all day. No reply. Found a number on the web and tried it as it showed headquartered in San Francisco. Voice prompt said not open at this hour which was noon California time. Bluetooth wont connect with my iPhone. So far I have a very expensive paperweight. I was actually considering buying the blood pressure cuff at same time. Sure glad I didn't . I don't normally ever even write reviews and when I do its because I'm thrilled as an avid and long time Prime customer--- but this appears to be only way to obtain a reply from Qardio. Extremely disappointed as the app is clean with a great UI and shows promise....but.....

WOW . Epic fail.

A Very Disappointing Experience
by Keith (1 out of 5 stars)
August 25, 2018

We purchased the scale along with Qardio's blood pressure monitor as we wanted a set of products that worked with the same app. Sadly, we were very disappointed with this product, and the associated app. Within a couple of days, we could not get the scale to take a reading and it just kept giving error messages. Multiple restarts, resets, and deleting and reinstalling the app didn't help. We ultimately had to return the scale.

QardioBase 2 isn't fully functional and within 3 hours ceases to function at all
by Alex Castro (3 out of 5 stars)

Edit (5/10/2018): I received the replacement a couple of months ago and decided I'd update the review as promised. The new unit has worked pretty well since then, but the scale needs to be zeroed far more often than I'd like. After a week or so of normal use, it'll hang onto a particular value and continue to display that value after weighing in. Only after zeroing the device will it correctly display your current values. Hopefully this can be fixed in future firmware updates.

Original Review:

I just received my QardioBase 2 this afternoon and after setting it up, I have nothing but bad news to report.

I followed the instructions and entered the information for my personal profile and set the scale into "normal" mode. Upon stepping on the scale, it happily reported my weight and nothing else, despite the fact that the surface was clean and my feet bare. I reset the device multiple times, and the setup went smoothly, but the result never changed. A few times when I tested the device it reported a "save error" and my results were not synced to my app. I emailed support and have yet to get even an acknowledgement that my ticket was received.

The final straw was when I tried to set it up for my girlfriend on her phone. I downloaded the app, created an account, and proceeded through the same process only to get to the part where you step on the scale as directed. The scale didn't recognize her despite bluetooth being enabled. Instead it weighed her as a guest. After attempting to reset the device yet again, the scale reads "step off" but nothing is on it. Even after turning it off and on again it continues to read "step off". Resetting the device at this point is impossible.

I'll be sending this back to Amazon for replacement as there isn't anything on the support page to resolve this issue and from what I've read in others' reviews, I'll probably never hear back from the support team anyway.

I'll update this review should the second unit prove to be built any better.

terrible accuracy. Total waste of money
by Scott Gruenemeier (1 out of 5 stars)
July 16, 2018

I used this scale diligently for 6 weeks. Most days i had to weigh myself between 2-4 times to get a new reading as it would just show me the prior day's reading on the first or second try. When it would do a new measurement though, it would often show my weight as 2 or 3 pounds heavier and then come down on subsequent weighing attempts. I compared it to other non-smart scales and they would show a consistent weight a few pounds below the QuardioBase. Way too much hassle, terrible accuracy. Total waste of money.

Correct/consistent measurements
by BY (5 out of 5 stars)
September 23, 2017

I was ready to move up from my cheapo WeighWatchers scale and wanted something that was consistent in measurement. No more fluctuations between 1-3 lbs when weighing/re-weighing!

I bought this QardioBase scale and set it up within a few minutes; it synced beautifully via Bluetooth with my Pixel phone.

Because consistency is really important to me I tested it on smooth hardwood floor in my living room and then on the penny tile floor in my bathroom. I recalibrated the scale between weighings and it gave me the correct measurement on both surfaces. Also, I tried holding hand weights to test its accuracy and it was on target.

Overall very pleased and looking forward to trying out the pregnancy mode sometime in the next year or so!

Scale was very inaccurate. I used reference weights and weighed myself with this scale. I used 2 weighted exercise balls to test this scale vs my old scale. This scale was a pound off for the reference weights and when I weighed myself I was over 5lbs off. The Fat% was also way off compared to my other scale. This scale has been returned.

Not accurate
by PinkDynamite22 (1 out of 5 stars)
January 17, 2019

The main thing I expect a scale to do is give me an accurate measure of my weight. Stepping on the Qardio Base 2 scale three times in as many minutes, I got varied weight readings. The numbers varied as much as 1.5 pounds when I stepped on the scale back to back so I can't trust the accuracy. The weight discrepancies happened on a few different occasions so I know it was not a one-time fluke. I also don't believe the hydration readings are accurate either. I generally don't drink much of anything and when I first started using the Qardio Base 2, I knew my fluid intake was low. The hydration reading on my app was 51% on the first day. After hydrating for two weeks, drinking 60 ounces of water per day each day, my hydration readings showed between 49-51%. They stayed the same or got lower with a higher water intake. Other than those major issues, I do like the design of the Qardio Base 2. The happy faces make it fun to step on. I like the Qardio app as well but would have liked to see the history chart for water percentages which is not currently an available function. While I was willing to ignore the questionable water figures to enjoy all the other functions offered by the Qardio Base 2, the varying weight numbers was a deal breaker for a scale. I will be returning the product.

Qardio has made a good product even better
by Paul Cutler (5 out of 5 stars)
October 3, 2017

Qardio has made a good product even better. I had previously purchased the original QardioBase when it first came out and just bought the new QardioBase 2. Qardio has fixed two of the issues I had with this new model. Setup with the Qardio app was easier than the first one and the QardioBase 2 doesn't wobble! It's much sturdier and even better, now includes a rechargeable battery via a USB cable rather than using AAA batteries.

The Qardio app is a breeze to use and I appreciate the weekly reminder to step on the scale. Just step on the QardioBase 2 and it syncs all of the data to your phone. I love the fact that it doesn't just measure weight, it also tracks BMI, fat and muscle making it great to see workout progress. The app is easy to use and shows your latest measurements as well as your current progress for the week with a smiley face to let you know if you've lost a little weight over the week. You can set a goal within the app and easily track all of your progress and look at it as a graph or show all of your history. Highly recommended.

Okay wireless scale, awful tool to measure body fat
by Frank Lopes (3 out of 5 stars)
June 29, 2018

Bottom Line: If you want a scale that connects to your phone and aren't worried about the price go for it. If you want this for it's ability to measure body fat, don't spend the money on this.

It is averaging about 14-17% margin of error in calculating Body Fat (I tested it against a BodPod measurement on the same day). On top of the average margin of error it can swing wildly about 3-6%. For reference sack that means a 100 lbs person would have lost about pounds or about 10,000 calories.

App works okay, the interface is not particularly user friendly. Your most recent weigh in and data aren't always displayed on the front screen but can typically be found on the history screen. Had no problem getting it set up and connected to the network.

The Emoji face is a bit off putting when it winks at you as you stand on it in your birthday suit. . . .but I can see the appeal.
