Love the concept-but enormous size means bruises OWWW!
by Liz Zélandais (3 out of 5 stars)
October 6, 2018

This thing is huge, and particularly once a dumbbell is in it, it's significantly bigger both in height and width than a regular kettlebell. I've attached pictures comparing it to one of my kettlebells, which is actually larger than the regular cast iron ones. You can see why, with this size, ankles and other body parts end up bruised.

If you love kettlebell workouts and you travel, this would be great despite the size. It's lightweight but sturdy. It holds the dumbbell securely, and easy to unlatch and switch sizes. Since I do kettlebell workouts at home and willing to forego them on the road, I'm not willing to choose between being bruised or compromising form to accommodate the size. Returning. Great Gear Item for the Road Warrior Fitness Guy
by Dennis (5 out of 5 stars)
September 19, 2017

I've been looking for a product like this for a while. My career requires me to be a road warrior travelling every week Monday-Thursday and staying at hotels. Most hotels have at least dumb bells, but very few have kettle bells. This worked like a charm and I was able to bang out kettle bell swings no problem.

I did find a competing product but never bit the bullet and bought it. It is made out of cast iron, weighed nearly 8 lbs., and cost around $150. I found this product on Amazon and not only is it dramatically cheaper, it is plastic and easily fits in my airline roll-a-board carry on.

Product feels solid while in use. The dumb bell does not slip or move at all within the handle. Time will tell if it's durable.

Between this product and the TRX Go, I have a portable gym that fits into my carry on and allows me to have a great workout even if I'm stuck in hotel with a terrible gym.

Great for two-hand swings, but that is about it.
by tadaugherty (4 out of 5 stars)

This is a great idea. I wish I would have thought of it. It's important to manage your expectations though, this is not a substitute for a kettlebell, given a choice between a kettlebell and a handle to convert a dumbbell for swings, I will stick with my kettlebells. This is a great tool for those who travel and still want to get some solid kettlebell swing work in at the hotel gym, everyone typically has dumbbells. But two-hand swings are about all it is good for. I tried to use it for goblet squats, but the dumbbell weights don't give you access to the handle like a kettlebell does. The handle, really the dumbbell, does not allow for cleans because the dumbbell weights are on the outsides instead of centered like with a kettlebell. I could do single arm presses and turkish get-ups, but the locking mechanism for the handle really digs into the back of the forearms. Overall, I would buy it again, it's a great alternative to not being able to do swings while traveling.

Works as Advertised
by Amazon Customer (5 out of 5 stars)

I was looking for a product that would allow me to swing 30-50lbs when a gym didn't have kettlebells or only light bells. This works perfectly for that and doing Turkish Get Ups. I've had this for a week and haven't had any issues with it.

The main things I've noticed: The handle adds about five to six inches to were the weight is compared to a normal bell making it feel heavier. There is a ring of foam inside the gryp where you place the dumbbell, it does give for thicker handles.

For everyone that's left a review saying this is a waist of money cause the dumbbell hit your legs. Use a wider stance or turn the handle 90 degrees and use a "thumbs-up" grip (as seen in the pics).

Pros
- allows for 5lb or 2.5lb increases
- fits all uncoated dumbbell handles I've tried
- dumbbell did not move at all in gryp
- I was afraid the handle seam might cut into my hands but it didn't

Cons
- max weight the gryp can hold is rated at 55lbs
- handle moves the weight a good extra five inches away from you. Makes the weight feel 5lb/2.5kg heavier.
- handle is very smooth and gets slippery
- can bump your legs
- handle length causes weight to rest lower down on arm for TGU

Great concept, doesn't work
by Jennifer (1 out of 5 stars)

I was quite excited to have a way to do kettlebells on the road. Unfortunately, I have yet to find a set of dumbbells that have a small enough hand grip to fit in the kettle gryp. I've tried three different styles, but all hand grips on the dumbbells I encounter in my travels are larger than will fit in the kettle gryp. Great concept, but turns out to be useless. Buyer beware, this is definitely money down the drain. Here's hoping someone else will run with the idea and create a version that works!

Innovative. Easy to use.

Update: I now enjoy this device, after having purchased, here on Amazon, and received a pair of Humanx Arm Guards.

Pro: lightweight, strong and flexible

Con: needs a good set of arm guards for comfort

This is wonderful device to swap out dumbbells of various weights in performing different exercises. What I soon realized, however, is that when I upped to a 20# dumbbell, my forearm was getting impacted with various exercises, as I attempted to maneuver my arm and the weight . I had to stop immediately, until I shop for wrist guards. Since I do not have a gym membership and never have had one, I had no idea that this exercise would affect my forearms. Since I believe that the Kettle Gryp has promise to provide me with a Great workout, I will order wrist guards soon. An update shall be forth coming.

Really clever and well designed workout tool
by TF TAKEFLIGHT (5 out of 5 stars)

I can't believe nobody came up with this earlier, such a great solution to a seemingly simple problem. I workout at a couple gyms that either don't have kettlebells or are missing important sizes. I also travel a lot and hotels never seem to have them, so if my crossfit workout calls for them in the workout, I'm out of luck. This thing is a must-have in my gym bag and my suitcase from now on.

I was worried about the durability of a plastic handle, but I accidentally dropped this one on the concrete outside in the middle of my WOD with a 50# dumbell, and it was completely fine (other than the scuff I put on it). So far I've tried it on quite a few different types and brands of dumbells (Rogue, Ivanko, York, etc.) and it has worked great on all of them. Truly a great design, and I like the fact that it's actually manufactured in the U.S. That's a rare commodity these days, especially at such a reasonable price.

The owners of one of my gyms saw me with this thing and decided to buy a bunch for the gym. If this company makes it on Shark Tank or something, I think you'll start seeing these everywhere, kind of like the TRX explosion, so I recommend getting it now ahead of the wave and you can say you were a trendsetter!

Surprised how well it worked!

I was a bit skeptical of this product, but I was pleasantly surprised!

It worked well with my dumbells. Basically, I wanted to do the kettlebell swing.

Since my dumbells are adjustable, I can adjust weight as well.

Highly recommended

the Kettle gryp is well built for the money and allows you to perform the exercises like Kettlebell
by Joe Stewart (2 out of 5 stars)

Ok, the Kettle gryp is well built for the money and allows you to perform the exercises like Kettlebell swing without any issues, however it creates problem with "clean and clear" and other moves that required kettlebell (in your case - dumbbell) to touch the body. I used it with Bowflex SelectTech 1090 ( Bowflex SelectTech 1090 Adjustable Dumbbell (Single) ) but , as I said , returned and decided to take normal 45 lb kettlebell.

Simple and very useful
by Jono (5 out of 5 stars)

My gym's kettlebells only go up to 50 pounds (the listed maximum for the Kettle Gryp). That is just not a heavy enough weight, so I loaded the Gryp up with a 70 pound dumbbell and dig Turkish Get Ups to test it out. It felt strong and stable and I bet it can hold more weight (maybe next week!) with no problem. I used an 80 pound dumbbell for swings-- both one and two handed, again with no problem. The issue of the width the dumbbell can be mitigated easiest on one hand swings by rotating the wrist so your thumb points behind you when you move into the bottom position of the swing (much like you would do if you are swinging two kettlebells, one in each hand). This is a great little device and easy to pack in a gym bag.
