Kind-of a bummer to be honest

I was very excited to use this paint based on the marketing material provided by the company.

I have painted many items with it in the last few weeks and I can say with confidence that it does not have the affect that the website and marketing material show. It is indeed a very, very flat black paint. However, the proclaimed illusion of "the void of light" and flattening of a 3D object is false (see photos).

It's matte, it's black.... ish, but mostly it's disappointing. The paint when wet is definitely black and easily as dark or darker than the Citadel Abaddon Black I use on my Warhammer miniatures, however when it dries it turns a dark grey that, while fairly matte, is notably lighter in shade than black.

I tried thinning it with a little water as is recommended when painting with Citadel paints, I tried using it without thinning, I tried 2 thin coats, I tried 3 thin coats, I tried 2 uncut coats, and nothing changed the depth of the black or how matte it is.

It's an interesting effect (thus 2 stars not 1) but it is definitely NOT the black that is advertised.

Oh, and it does smell of cherries which is... odd.

The human eye is not so easily fooled though

I bought this when they were still calling it the "blackest black". So 3 star. It's more gray, but it's very flat. So flat that it can fool a camera into thinking it's not seeing color. The human eye is not so easily fooled though. It does look 3D in real life.

Under the right circumstances, this is darker than the darkest black I've used. My first test was on half a scrap of really crummy plywood with a lot of raised grain (see photo). In the light, it just looks like regular black paint. In the not so light, it's definitely darker than ordinary paint. In shadows, and especially if it's right next to something light, it's really dark. But those are the circumstances needed to achieve the "hole in space" effect.

Fortunately for my needs, this totally works. So, I'm pretty happy with it. My needs are not everyone's needs though, so your mileage may vary.

It is darker than everything else I was able to test. Make sure you watch his youtube video where he explains how to use the paint. Maybe the most important advice: use the softest brush ypu can find.

Don't expect this paint to live up to its claims. I painted this directly on a wall that was previously painted with a flat black latex paint that I obtained at my local home center. If anything, this was less dark-in no way was it more dark or more matte. For roughly 10x the price of what I paid for a gallon of latex paint, I would expect this to do great things. It doesn't. Don't waste your money.

Grayest Black ever.

I am a photographer and have a collection of Vintage lenses and lens hoods. Lens hoods have to have a no-reflective surface in order not to create haze in front of a lens. I was looking for an alternative to the usual flocking material and found this paint, I figure I'd give it a try

Black is all the colors and white is the absence of color. If you have ever painted a wall before, you know that your base color pretty much dictates how light or dark the following cost is going to be, a light colored wall to be painted with darker paint will need multiple coats in order the true paint color to show, and vice versa.

Attached are pictures to demonstrate this. the base material is black to begin with, so you figure this would just turn matte black, looking at the lens hood, the best color description for this paint is charcoal grey, its matte in the sense that it is flat, but black, off by a mile....it is still reflective still and reflects the color spectrum that it does not absorb.

Overhyped claim, officially the worst $20 I have ever wasted on Amazon. Go look elsewhere.

This didn't dry black at all for me. It dried gray and didn't even absorb any light even after of multiple coats, and over 24 hours of sitting.

I feel lied to. There is nothing special about this. To call it black is even generous, dark grey at best. I am a professional artist so I know my stuff I use paint all day everyday. Do not waste your money on this product.
