Product Description

Say goodnight to snoring, traffic and other distractions that prevent you from getting quality sleep. With comfortable eartips and soothing sounds, Bose noise-masking sleepbuds are engineered to drown out noise so you can fall asleep, stay asleep and wake up refreshed and ready to take on the day.
Bose sleepbuds do something earplugs and sound machines don’t: They comfortably seal off noise while delivering sounds that have been optimally tuned to mask those noises that interfere with your sleep.
You might think sleeping with earbuds can’t be comfortable, right? Don’t worry, these super-tiny and truly wireless sleepbuds are built to stay comfortably in place all night long. But finding the right fit is crucial to their performance. That’s why the sleepbuds come with three sizes of StayHear+ Sleep tips (S/M/L). So before you head to bed, try each size to see which one conforms best to the upper ridge of your ear.
The included charging case stores, protects and charges your sleepbuds when they’re not in use. And when unplugged, the case also delivers one additional full charge—perfect for travel.
The Bose Sleep app makes it easy to set up and use your sleepbuds. Just download the app, select a soothing sound from the library, set your desired volume level and choose how long you want to use your sleepbuds for during the night. You can select the same settings every night or experiment with different options to find what works for you. You can even set wake-up alarms that play through the sleepbuds, so you don’t disturb the person sleeping next to you. The sleepbuds are sweat and water resistant.

Features

  • Noise-masking sleep buds, not noise cancelling, are the latest Bose innovation. They use engineered soothing sounds to cover up unwanted noise like snoring partners and noisy neighbors so you can fall asleep and stay asleep
  • They may look like tiny headphones, but they are not. Instead of streaming music, they’re uniquely engineered to drown out disturbing sounds and lull you to sleep
  • Super tiny sleep buds stay comfortably in place all night long, even if you sleep on your side. Choose from three included ear tip sizes for the best fit
  • Although Bose pioneered noise cancelling technology, its research found that noise masking is the better option for sleep
  • Each earbud contains a rechargeable silver zinc micro battery. Charging time: Up to 8 hours for sleep buds
  • The sleepbuds work exclusively with the Bose Sleep app so you can control and customize how you sleep. Select your soothing sound from the library, control the volume, set an alarm and even choose how long you want your sleepbuds to play for
  • Compact and convenient storage case keeps your sleepbuds safe, charged, and ready for next time. Provides one additional charge without having to plug it in
  • Your device (smartphone, tablet, etc.) must support Bluetooth Low Energy (also called Bluetooth Smart) to work correctly with the Bose noise masking sleep buds. Apple devices with iOS 10 or later are compatible, and most devices with Android 5.0 and newer versions support Bluetooth Low Energy
  • WHAT’S IN THE BOX: Bose noise masking sleep buds, Charging/storage case, 3 pairs of StayHear+ Sleep tips (S/M/L), Wall charger, USB cable, Drawstring travel pouch

Not for snoring
by Vodil (2 out of 5 stars)

This product has most everything one expects of Bose: good design, good quality, high price, etc.

I had no problem getting it to fit; it was comfortable for me. All of this got it an extra star.

These work great if you want to hear sleep sounds and not bother anyone else.

The reason for the low score, and the fact that I have return it for refund, is it does not work to mask snoring--which is the prime reason I bought it. I could get it to almost work by using at full volume, but this was hard on my ears. The earbuds themselves do not isolate enough of the external sound to make the masking practical.

Another problematic feature is that you can only turn them on with your smartphone. I have no problem with doing the programming that way. The app works fine. But, I make a conscious effort to leave my smartphone out of the bedroom at night. It would be nice, and I imagine not too hard, to have an "always on" setting so that they were working whenever they were out of their case, connected to a smartphone or not.

That, however, would not make the product good enough for me to buy. Perhaps the technology it not possible, but it would be great if they could add their active noise reduction technology to the masking. I'd pay an extra $100 for that.

Some good some bad

Pros:
-Charge case is simple and I love that you can charge the case and not just the earbuds
-wireless and Bluetooth is a great feature
-comfortable in ears esp after wearing for a few nights, can sleep on my side with no issues
-sounds selection is good, volume capacity is good

Cons:
-don't truly mask sounds, esp snoring, unless volume is very high, not noise cancelling
-tend to fall out of ears throughout the night, changed sizes and have the same problem
-struggles to connect often. Have to reset pretty often to get the buds found by the app
-functionality is entirely dependent on the app (volume, Bluetooth, sound, etc.)

Good purchase as they have helped me sleep more soundly, but my expectations were higher given the Bose brand and the long beta test period. The lack of a true masking/noise cancellation feature is disappointing.

For years, I have slept with wired earbuds to drown the noise from a very loud snoring partner. After fighting with cords and crumby earbuds, this Bose system appeared to be the answer. The sleep buds fit well and I can live with white noise from the app just fine. What I can't stand is the noise level on the app has been throttled so low that I can't drown out/mask the snoring! Just give me the ability to set the volume high enough to not hear the SNORING. For $250, please set the volume parameter at a higher level! Is there any fix upcoming?

Works very well for me to sleep great with a snoring partner.

I've used these now for 3 nights and have gotten excellent sleep, noticeably better than I typically get. It's a very specific product for sleeping only. Getting good sleep makes a world of difference for me, and my partner is a snorer. Previously I was using foam earplugs every night, plus soft fleece "sleep phones" that wrap around your head. The foam earplugs are still pretty uncomfortable and don't work 100%. These sleepbuds blow them out of the water in terms of getting good sleep. I hesitated to buy these at first because they aren't truly "noise cancelling" but it turns out that technology isn't that helpful for blocking sounds like snoring. (I have actually tried using noise cancelling earbuds for sleeping and it's not great). With the sleep buds, it's really unexpected how your ears and brain "tune in" to the noise coming out of the sleepbuds and then completely "tune out" to the noise coming from your environment. It's a little magical. I would imagine this doesn't work for everyone, and having to spend $250 to find that out is a total bummer. Look into the return policy before buying. Even though it's super expensive, the quality of sleep I'm getting now makes it totally worth it!!!

IF your beloved SNORES, BUY THESE!!!
by Kprice (5 out of 5 stars)

I "sleep" next to a snoring mate. It has been a losing battle, one breeding epic insanity and resentment. If this is true for you, there is NO limit to what you would pay for a solid night of sleep in your own bed (we don't have a spare bedroom right now). I already have a gravity blanket and an awesome white noise machine (which is great at covering the pet and adult kid noises in the house, but not the chain saw next to me). So when the ad for these sleep buds showed up in my Prime stream, I thought could this be the solution????

No, they don't stream music from your phone, they are not regular headphones, you can get those for $30 at Target. These are designed for SLEEP. For the first time last night...I had perfect sleep. They WORK. It's basically white noise right in your ear, masking sounds. Can I still hear him? A little, but only if I'm already awake. The difference is he doesn't wake me up AND I CAN GO BACK TO SLEEP.

There is one trick: For the first three nights, I had what I now know as "pillow rubbing" noise (found it over on the Bose forums). The little plastic outer coating on the bud sticks to your pillow and makes a loud rubbing, creaking noise when you breathe, yes when you breathe. I tried 3 kinds of pillow cases and all three of the ear bud tips thinking I just didn't have them seated correctly. The forums revealed a super simple fix: stick a piece of duct or packing tape over the plastic part. Then pick the white noise that works for you (I DO hope they add more soon to the app) and go to sleep. I'm a side sleeper, these puppies do not come out and they are comfortable. You don't even have to set the volume up very high for the masking effect to work.

It is very much a one-trick pony, all they are good for is sleeping in the midst of noise. But it's an awesome trick.

Worth it.

A lot of people are grumpy that the headphones are not more than what they're advertised to be... did you even read about them before buying? Did you even buy them or are you just complaining about what you think they "should" be? I digress. Here is my honest review:

Pros
-comfortable, even for 8-10hours for a side sleeper like myself
-earbuds actually block out sound all on their own pretty well
-has an alarm that's not completely obnoxious, and sounds in the earpiece so it doesn't wake my husband
-case has multiple charges in it
-they actually stay in your ear! And I'm an active sleeper
*Bonus? I recently used them on a flight and it actually blocked out the airplane noise! Ironically, there is an airplane noise option haha, in case that's what you like

Cons
-earbuds have to be placed on the magnets "just so" to charge. Sometimes it takes a few tries.
-earbuds can be dislodged by lid when closing and can easily be dislodged if the case gets bumped
-slow to charge (think several hours)
-app(/my phone?) occasionally has difficulty finding them, so you have to go through this whole thing of putting them back in the case, plugging the case in and then taking the earbuds out again? The bluetooth hasn't ever lost signal in the night though, so that's what matters most to me.

Ultimately, there are some kinks they need to iron out. Are those kinks annoying? Sometimes. Would it be nice to have more sound options? Sure. Are they pricey? Yes. For me though, it's totally worth it. I'm an incredibly light sleeper and white noise helps me fall and stay asleep. I've tried multiple sleeping headphones, but while less expensive, were not as effective, comfortable or durable.

These are life changing!
by Bradley (5 out of 5 stars)
August 10, 2018

Much of my life I've struggled with insomnia. Ambien, Diphenhydramine (Benadryl, Sominex, etc) worked but leave me drugged and cranky the following day. I've tried regular earbuds but they are uncomfortable as a side sleeper so made steady sleep worse. I have several pair of SleepPhones which I like but charging them is a pain and often when I needed them the batteries would be dead, not to mention the band gets hot and uncomfortable over the night, even the Breeze fabric.

I was skeptical because I've had high hopes for so many sleep aides but I've had these for a week, the greatest week of sleep I can remember.

They are tiny and you can sleep in any position without feeling like you have uncomfortable pressure in/on your ears. My wife refers to me as an "active sleeper" because I move around so much but these fit so snug that tossing and turning is not a concern.

Though it is a limited selection of sound options and you can't listen to music, the sound quality and noise masking is great, and the point is to sleep, not to be entertained.

Finally, the alarm feature is so great and while my wife had commented how happy she is to see me sleep so well this last week, hands down her favorite feature is the alarm that wakes me right up but she doesn't have to hear at all when I often have to be up much earlier than her.

I have been searching for years for something like this. I'd been waiting for the Kokoon headphones to come out because I do like SleepPhones and figured they would be an improvement, but they've been preordering and delaying for years to the point I'm concerned they are a scam.

I cannot recommend these enough! These are near perfect and truly are life changing for me and hopefully others as well.

Yes. Yes I would. [UPDATED 9/13/18]
by bobbydon (4 out of 5 stars)

I would spend $250 for a product that may allow me to sleep with my spouse again.

One week in. So far, so good. I am acclimating myself to the sleepbuds in advance of my spouse's return from extended travel. Then we'll put them to the real (snoring) test. I'm guessing that the "cascade" setting (with broad low-to-high frequency spread) will work best. I'll provide an update in the weeks ahead.

THE GOOD
-- very comfortable (more so than my favorite foam earplugs)
-- sleepbuds play continuously all night with no interruption or sound quality issues
-- sleepbud and charging case updates are easy
-- sleepbuds engage charging contacts with positive (magnetic) click, and charge fully during day
-- sleep app runs seamlessly on my 4-year old Android tablet

ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT
-- sleepbuds pair with app on first try about 75% of the time (remedied by returning buds to case and tablet restart)
-- sound choices are just barely adequate

I'm cautiously optimistic. More soon!
>>UPDATE 8/18/18<<

Three nights into the Spousal Snore Challenge and these things work, as hoped!

The "cascade" sound loop works best for me, with enough low-frequency sound to mask snoring, coughing, etc. (I find the rainfall and babbling brook sound loops to be "bright" and "edgy," and too stimulating.)

The pairing with my Android tablet continues to be fussy -- we're now around a 50-50 chance that the buds will pair on first attempt. Bose needs to keep working on this -- hopefully there's a software fix to make this more robust.

All that said, the product is doing what I hoped it would do, and allowing me to sleep with my spouse again. I can sympathize with reviewers who want more functionality for the price (like playing music from their phones), but I speculate they've not arrived at the level of sleep-deprived desperation where cost becomes secondary. Trust me, you'll know it when you get there. :)

Looking forward to providing a long(er)-term review.
>>UPDATE 9/13/18<<

Pairing is slightly improved, and performance/effectiveness continues to amaze. Used the buds on vacation, and they're surprisingly effective in unfamiliar settings. Perhaps I'm developing a reflexive response -- that is, I hear the cascade sound loop and my brain says "time to sleep." Even if I'm on an air mattress on the floor of a friend's construction-zone house.

Great Idea, Poor Quality Control
by GadgetGuy (1 out of 5 stars)
July 27, 2018

When I got my first pair of Sleepbuds, I was disappointed to find that one speaker made a constant crackling/popping noise when active. I returned the pair, thinking it was a fluke.

My second set had no such audio issues and, for a couple nights, they worked great. And then they stopped connecting to anything.

Tried multiple phones, resetting the case...nothing. They'd show as charging/charged based on the lights in the case, but never paired with another device again. And back they went. Again.

After two bad sets of $250 earbuds, I'm not trying for a third. Which is a shame since the few nights they worked were fantastic.

Works as Advertised - but expensive and a little clunky.
by T. D. Eastman (4 out of 5 stars)
June 29, 2018

I suspect that there are many people like me who are blessed to lay one's head next to a companion each night. I also suspect that sometimes that companion makes noises at night. I have struggled for years to find ways to not be woken with compromises between sound machines and white noise makers. I tried, with a mixture of success and failure, to use various headphones to close my eyes and to keep them closed. Thus, when I saw the Bose Wireless Sleepbuds - I thought this is something that might actually be a long term solution.

Please note - I have used them for only three nights upon the writing of this review, and thus may come back at a latter time to revive it. But here are my initial thoughts and feelings.

PROS -
1. The headphones are truly small and soft and fit well in the ear. There are three sizes of rubber shells to choose from, and the downloadable app does a great job to find the proper fit. Point is - they fit, the stay in, you can sleep on your side with the pillow pushing the earbud into your ear - and thus they do what all other ear buds fail to do.
2. Great App to run the head phones. I was please with the downloadable app used to select the tones as well as set alarms for the headphones. It was clear, easy to use, great instruction, simple. Way to go on app design.
3. Spectrum of tones - there are 10 various tones (sounds) of such things as a stream, waterfall, airplane, leaves rustling in the wind - ect. It seems to be that the various sounds have been selected as a way to be as 'natural' sounding / comforting as possible, as well as registering different tonal pitches. For example, the running stream and the camp fire sounds feel a little high pitched for my sleeping comfort, but the waterfall and 'fan' have a lower pitch. The spectrum is good. And, with the exception of one provided sound - my mind did not find the loop in the recorded sound. Point is tones are of high quality and cover a spectrum of pitches that will work for most people-
4. The case - the charging case for the pods is well designed for charging and for using in the darkness of a room.

CONS -
1. Price - What, $250 for headphones that do not play music?!?! Outside of this review, I have not told people I have purchased these because I am embarrassed by how much I paid for them.
2. Volume control - The only way to control the volume of the earbuds is via the app. This means, in the dead and dark of night, I have to reach over, turn my phone on, get scolded by my wife, unlock it, and adjust the volume via the app. The phone's external volume control does not change the volume for the ear buds, nor is there any type of volume control on the changing case. Point is - I do not want to turn my phone on at night time - yuk.
3. The "Wind in the Leaves" sound was of low quality. Meaning, My mind was able to lock onto the playback loop and thus the sound became like the a dripping water facet. Gratefully, only one of the sounds was of such quality - but for $250 - I expect all the sounds to be top notch. Also, I would have liked some sounds at a lower pitch.
4. Lack of independent usability. In order to use these sleep buds - the user MUST have a phone app for them (iPhone or android). WHY? All the sounds are pre-downloaded into the ear buds. Why can there not be a selection button and volume control on the charging case?
5. No automatic shut off. The headphones do not turn off when placed back in their charging cradle. If I do not turn off the sound from the app itself, they will keep playing all day long. I discovered this on the second night. They failed to charge completely in the case because they never stopped playing the sound. Come on, auto shut off when placed in the charging dock should be a given.

Overall experience:

In the past three nights, I have had a better sleep experience. I have slept longer and more soundly. Those times that I have woken up, the sounds helped me go back to sleep quickly. So yes, the Bose Wireless Noise-Masking Sleepbuds do work as advertised. I plan to continue using them. Yet, I am still not sure if it was worth it or not in terms of the price. If I could craft / custimize and add my own sounds - than yes for sure. I am also very annoyed by the inability to control the volume except through the app. Thus, my pause on recommendations to buy or not. If you can afford it and do need a sleeping aid, than yes, purchase it. If the price point stretches you or you really do not need any noise masking device, than I think you should not buy it.
