Great value for a wonderful popcorn popper! Definitely worth getting!

I am a fulltime RV'r. I do not have room for a lot of extra gadgets, so I have to really love and find value in any item I decide to purchase & keep. Popping my own popcorn saves me money and it's so much healthier than bagged microwave popcorn at the store! This popper cleans up easily, folds compactly down, is lightweight and works like a charm! Couldn't ask for anything more! You can pop without any added oil, but I just love the added flavor a tsp., or so, of butter adds! The price is incredible too! I've paid 2x this price for microwave popcorn bowls that didn't work half as well.

I highly recommend the Colonel Popper Microwave Popcorn Popper.

For Optimal Results, Adjust Power Level in Mcrowaves of 1000W or More or USE POPCORN BUTTON if avail
by Austen Fan (5 out of 5 stars)

This is a great microwave popper that is dishwasher-safe. We've used it much more than I'd thought we would, because it is so convenient.

Addendum, after reading some negative reviews of this product: Performance will probably vary, depending upon the wattage of your microwave. Ours is 1100 watts, and I've found that 1 minute, 50 seconds is the optimal amount of time needed. Even 10 seconds more results in burned popcorn. Less means more unpopped kernels. To avoid the horribly burned popcorn with the attendant noxious odor, some experimentation, starting at the 90-second mark and increasing in 10-second increments, may be necessary. (Edit- Reducing the effective microwave wattage by cooking at a lower power level, as noted below, is probably the method to use for optimal results.) As with all microwave popcorn cookers, including the plastic-lined bags, whether the microwave has been recently used also matters, because the rotating glass plate may already be quite hot. I would advise placing the popper on a room temperature plate in the microwave prior to popping, in that case.

Addendum P.S.: To ensure that the popcorn doesn't burn and that more kernels are popped, the seller recommends that only 80% of full power be used in microwaves of 1000 watts or more.

Update: I found that even 80% power was too high for my microwave to pop an acceptable percentage of the kernels without burning, so I reduced the power to 70%, starting with a room temperature microwave and with the timer set to 3 minutes. The results were much better. Each reduction in power requires more time, most noticeably prior to the first kernel popping. Because of the pauses in microwave radiation inherent in cooking at less than full power, the general bagged microwave popcorn rule of stopping when you hear popping only every second or so cannot be relied upon. A trial-and-error process to determine the optimal power level and cooking time for your microwave will probably be necessary.

Final Update: We've had a couple of these for a while now, and they are still like new. The only complaint that I have is that when the bowl is washed (upside down) in the dishwasher, its bottom retains a lot of liquid. We are thinking of making some holes in the base, so that the liquid can drain out. Would advise wiping any residual oil out of the bowl and the lid before placing it in the machine, so that it and the other dishes don't come out smelling like oil. One thing that we've (duh) realized is that we can just use the popcorn button on our microwave to get perfect popcorn every time, without any power adjustment, just as we could with the bagged microwave popcorn.

It's Easy And Fast
by Bruce A (5 out of 5 stars)

IT WORKS and it works great. I use regular store brand yellow popcorn. My microwave is rated at 1200 watts with a glass turntable. It's average. I measure 1/4 cup of popcorn, dump it in the popcorn maker then set the top on and let it slide down to the ridge where it stops. Set the popper in the microwave set the timer for three minutes and when the popping sound almost stops I cancel the microwave. At that time I lift the lid and add a couple dollops of butter then leave the lid on to melt the butter. Then I remove the lid and sprinkle the popcorn with garlic salt and powered cheese. I toss the popcorn in the popper to mix the ingredients and use the popcorn maker as a serving bowl. I love this thing. It's very easy to use and cleans up with soapy water.

Don't waste your money.

NOT a great product!! Good quality and design. Good storage/compact feature. Lightweight, easy to clean. However, made my first bowl 1/2 cup of kernels. I followed the directions perfectly. Set the microwave for 4 min and after 2 mins it was smoking, Darkened the clear lid and popped all out of the container. The directions said it would all stay in the bowl. 1/4, 1/3, 1/2 options for directions. It even stated you can add oil, butter or seasoning before popping. Don't waste your money or time. I really wanted this to work. But, I will go back to the original way my grandmother made popcorn.....a pot on the stove....

I went above the upper line which looked like 1/3 cup which is a lot

I only add coconut oil before I microwave it. When I added butter to it before microwaving, the popcorn came out chewy. I suggest either popping them dry or with coconut oil, then adding melted butter when it's done. I have a 1500-watt microwave and it takes 2 to 2-1/2 minutes to pop if you keep the kernels under the top line and it pops about halfway up. I supervise it during the last 30 seconds for decreased popping sounds so the popcorn doesn't get overcooked. If I stay under the top line, it finishes in 2 minutes and pops almost all the kernels except about five or fewer. The first time I used this, I went above the upper line which looked like 1/3 cup which is a lot. It popped past the top of the popper and was stuck in the microwave because the lid was pushed all the way up. The popcorn still came out perfectly. This is a trap for popcorn addicts since it makes the popcorn really well. Not good if you are trying to cut back on popcorn consumption.

Keeps burning corn. Tried all sorts of popcorn amounts and times taking data on what combos produced the best popcorn. Found that half the amount called for less than 2 min total at full power popped half the corn without burning anything. I have a family of 5 and we each want a bowl of popcorn to snack on for movie night. This product would take all night and wast half the bag of corn before we could start the movie. I really wanted it to work but popping on the stove is SO much simpler than using this thing.

Easy, Effective Popper

After I accidentally broke my glass popper, I decided to try this silicon popper instead. Bottom line - it's excellent!

I simply load it up with 1/3 to 1/2 a cup of kernels, add about 2 tablespoons of oil, and set it running in the microwave.

My wife likes hers cooked with extra virgin olive oil whereas I prefer to use oils infused with chilli, garlic, and/or ginger. :-D

Either way, the corn comes out beautifully cooked and delicious. We usually find no more than a dozen "old maids" left in the bottom.

However, I find the cooking time to be considerably longer than what is recommended and what other reviewers have suggested. Admittedly, my Samsung microwave is over 10 years old, and I have no idea what the power rating is. I always set it to 6:30 and listen for the popping duration dropping to 3-4 seconds, which usually occurs somewhere between 5:45 and 6:15. Despite the long cooking time, I have not yet seen any burnt kernels.

I don't know if this long cooking time is a result of the particular brand we are using - "Snack Artist" White Corn Kernels. We tried several different brands, and found these to be the most flavorful.

As others have mentioned, this particular popper gets very hot in the microwave, and you must use oven mitts to retrieve it. Be careful removing it, because it is very flexible and easy to squeeze too hard, causing popcorn to spill all over the floor (personal experience). It's very easy to clean in the sink or the dishwasher.

I highly recommend this particular popper for making popcorn at home that is healthy and convenient.

Oh heavens alive! This is awesome! I love popcorn. I worked at a movie theatre as a teen and loved perfecting the popcorn, oil, salt ratio. (Gotta use Flavocal) But now that I'm grown and I don't have access to a commercial popcorn machine I am always sad I can't have yummy popcorn. My sweet husband bought this for my birthday and I love love love it!!! I will be buying this for all future gifts until all of my family members have one. It's just that awesome. No need for a bulky popcorn maker, and the box will tell you how to make the popcorn. I used a bit of melted butter instead of oil and some Flavocal for the salt. So good! And the box has a link for more recipes for yummy popcorn. This is one happy girl now that my popcorn drought is over. It's just so nice to find a cool product that is actually legit and not some gimmick that doesn't even work. If you're thinking about buying it, do it!

REAL Review: This Thing is Pretty Awesome!
by Caroline Lamb (5 out of 5 stars)
October 19, 2018

I purchased the Colonel Popper Microwave Popcorn Popper Maker Hot Airpop Corn Bowl (Gray) with very little expectation, but I actually love it. Wanted to have some "real" movie theatre popcorn, because, while microwave bags are ok, there's just something a bit fake in the taste.

Never owned a microwave popper like this before and am always wary when I see an over-kill of 5 star reviews (which a saw on the "best seller" popper...After looking more at the critical reviews I ended up looking at this one & trusted them more, but still was expecting that disappointment I get too often on here these days after being faked out by reviews. Unfortunate that is getting worse rather than better lately.

I've made several batches now and found the following instructions & proportions to work the best:
1 TABLEspoon coconut oil (or butter flavored coconut oil, though flavored prob. not necessary if using Flavacol butter-flavored salt that the theatres use)
+ 1/2 teaspoon Flavacol (up to NO MORE than 3/4 teaspoon if you like VERY salty) --PS 1 Flavacol carton will last FOREVER for the average user, it takes very little.

put both in the popper & heat to melted in the microwave (mine is appox 30-40 seconds)

Then add 1/3 cup popcorn kernels for 2 people that want quite a bit (I used "Jolly Time American's Best Select Premium Yellow Pop Corn" and it tastes GREAT). This amt fills it to top

Place cover on (handle up & note it goes down a bit into the bowl before popping) & for my 1100 watt microwave I use the popcorn setting + "add 30 seconds" button --obviously stop it if popping stops before that.

Be careful when taking it out (though I didn't find it to be particularly scalding but it is VERY HOT but I still eat directly from the popper bowl).

I only had leftover kernels the first use because I was scared to let it go the whole time, but with the settings above you should be good...The beauty of this thing is if you DO have kernels left after you've eaten the rest, just pop it back into the microwave & pop them. I haven't had any leftover since I perfected the time/amounts above.

Also, you can run it totally dry (for you health freaks afraid of some movie theatre flavor, lol).

I love how every single kernal pops up from the oil mix already with yellow oil/Flavacol coloring & flavoring it.

Pretty shocked at how well and easy it cleans because I thought FOR SURE the oil would cause pitting and/or stains, but it cleans up like new, with the slight exception of the bottom ring of the lid which holds on to a bit of yellow.

Easy to use

1st batch was disappointing; far too many unpopped kernels. 2nd batch was better and, by the 3rd batch, I had zeroed in on the right combination of kernels to time on MY microwave. I'm now VERY happy and, can HIGHLY recommend the Colonel Popper Microwave Popcorn Maker as long as a new user is willing to experiment with just a few batches to learn what combination will work best for them. I'm using Orville Reddenbacher popcorn I purchased at a warehouse club. The large plastic jug will make a LOT of popped corn for not a lot of money. I also eat it as "naked" popcorn. I do NOT use/add ANY oil, salt, or seasonings. I enjoy naked popcorn but, I do realize that many people will want some seasonings/flavor in addition to the fresh popcorn. Adding flavoring should be VERY easy to do before popping, after popping, or both. The fact that this popper can be collapsed for easier storage is "icing on the cake"; especially when I use it in my RV!
