I was very hopeful when I read the reviews of this unit in combination with the features list. I was a bit skeptical since Sony hasn't exactly been stellar these days but I thought maybe they had turned it around.

Unfortunately, I was wrong.

Pros:
- Lots of cool gizmos
- Great bluetooth features
- Party lights

Cons:
- Poor sound quality at any sound level but also not that loud, surprisingly. With it turned all the way up, I was still able to comfortably stand next to it an wince at the horrible dynamic range of the speakers.
- Confusing controls that seem like they allow for customization but are really fixed to a few presets.
- Big paper sticker in the middle of the top of the unit, listing the various DJ inspired gesture controls. The sticker isn't recessed in any way but just stuck on top. This means it's not protected against wear at all and even suffered some initial damage because it seemed like it was meant to be removed. Still not sure if it was or not but it was pretty well glued so I didn't try. Just seemed like an afterthought...
- Roller wheels are useless off of a smooth flat surface. I even had trouble rolling it over a tile floor because if you tilt it just a tiny bit too far up and the rubber feet catch on the floor.
- I couldn't figure out how to make the lighting effects do anything but randomly pulse and jiggle in multi-color.

Overall takeaway:
- It just felt like one of those things that does 100 things poorly and that you will just watch wear out over too short a time span while you more and more deeply regret the purchase.

Same old Sony we have come to wince at over the last 25 years or so.

Love this thing! Definitely recommend it for electronic music lovers. The Bluetooth connection is exceptional with my Iphone 5s and will never cut out unless you are LOS and 30 feet or so from the Speaker. Ground shaking bass that doesn't overpower the mids/highs when used with the right preset or custom EQ. The remote is super convenient and the volume is sufficient.

House parties are better now

I wanted to up grade my ion party system and the Sony MHC-V71 exceded my expectations, this speaker is loud and clear more than enough power for house parties and the light show is awesome. It has so many other applications over all the sound quality the build and the light show are what I wanted and plus. We love it parties are even better now

Let me start by saying this speaker is HUGE! In addition, it is not portable, it always has to be plugged in--you have to have an electrical outlet near for it to go outside.

The build quality seams very durable.

I love the fact that speaker comes with a remote control and has Bluetooth.

I have played all types of different music on the highest volume and it trembles the whole house! Very powerful! - I also do not have a gigantic house so everyone might feel different about the sound quality-It is perfect for me!

We absolutely love the lights; it is like a HUGE party!

You can connect up to (2) microphones- which my kids (and adults) love because they like to Play/Sing karaoke.

A HUGE plus is also that this speaker is splash proof, dustproof-Although I have not personally tried to drop any water on it-It is a great feature to have just in case- as I have had previous speakers ruined at party's due to people dropping drinks on them. FYI- This is only effective when the USB/MIC cover is closed. In addition, this is not guaranteed in ALL situations.

For the life of me-- I cannot figure out how to turn "DEMO" Mode off, I have read the instructions and googled it and I still cannot figure it out.

The instructions say:

Press the power button to turn the unit OFF. Press the DISPLAY button repeatedly until the Demo Mode display disappears. It did not work for me, but it does not bother me. I guess once I play around with it a little more maybe I can figure it out.

The demo mode seems to turn on when we power the speaker off.

ALL in all I love this speaker and it is perfect! I would definitely recommend.

Some said this system doesn't have hdmi output. review on youtube show it has hdmi output. i'm confused.
