Editorial Reviews

Review

"The Egg Cookbook is a wonderful guide with dozens of recipes covering topics from quick and easy eggs (scrambled, poached, etc) to sauces (hollandaise) and appetizers and snacks (grilled egg stuffed mushrooms anybody?). Prior to getting my hands on this book, my egg expertise consisted of simple scrambled eggs and poached eggs. This book helped add many new recipes to my kitchen."- The Novel World Blog

What a lot of useful information packed into one book. Just received my free copy today, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that it is much more than a mere cookbook. Yes, there are more than 100 neatly organized egg recipes that include sauces, snacks, desserts, and beverages, but there are also separate chapters for those on vegetarian or paleo diets. Helpful time saving tips are scattered liberally throughout the book too. I wish calorie content had been included, but at least prep and cooking times are noted for each recipe. For me, the best part of this book is Part One. The authors take the time to explain the different labels applied to purchased eggs, dispelling some popularly held myths and even describing the chickens that produce such variety. After 12 chapters of recipes, the book concludes with practical information for those considering raising their own birds. There is a generous list of websites, blogs, and books for further study. This book is a great bargain, especially if in the back of your mind you are thinking about small-scale chicken farming. Really, you're getting two books for one price. Learn how to raise your own birds and then cook up their eggs in delicious new ways. Yes, that's a great deal.

Great book I love how much you can make with eggs this book is amazing. I first got this book I wasn't sure how far it would get with me because I'm not a big egg eater. This book has many recipes that calls for eggs. I never thought I'd eat something that called for egg whites only, but with yummy seasoning and other ingredients it's pretty good. What I like about this book and why I bought it is because I love protein and normally I get that from meat. Eating meat all the time wasn't really good for me so my doctor asked me to sometime substitute meat for something else that has protein. This book saved me, and there is recipes in that call for meat to, just not as much as I normally eat which is good thing. The egg recipes really full me up which is another plus that I love. It normally takes meat, literally to make me full. I love eggs!

Firstly let me say that I absolutely LOVE eggs, simply because you can do any and everything with them and they are so delicious! I am a sucker for recipes, and if you are too then this is your book, definitely more than your simple hard boiled egg or scrambled eggs….the recipe for egg-drop soup is amazing! Eggs are such a simple food…and when we use them to bake, or simply accent a breakfast meal we don’t really worry so much about where our eggs come from. In this book you get a break down of eggs, and their equality which actually made me think and possibly consider reading the labels on the egg carton from now on, because to me…an egg has always just been an egg. The only downside to this book, if I had to choose one….is that there are no pictures to go along with the recipes….I’m more of a visual person…but if you follow the steps you will get the same results.

I have been trying to entice my way from carbs to protein (within reasonable limits) during my pregnancy, and while some foods turned me off right away meat and eggs seem to be by staples for consuming a little more protein and a little less carbs. A girl can only have so many scrambled or hard boiled eggs. This book is really great because it is totally egg focused and comes up with some really creative and amazing recipes. I love that I can jazz up eggs (so easy to use and affordable) and make something new and extra delicious. I've done breakfast for dinner, but a true main dish made with eggs as the primary component, or even desserts based on eggs was beyond what I would normally come up with. If you want to get creative with eggs, this is your book. I still buy the same kind of eggs I usually get in the super market (despite all the explanation about various kinds of eggs), but now I can make easy recipes that result in salads and dressing, quiches, sauces (love this!), snack foods, and more.

This incredible book about the "incredible, edible" egg from renowned Healdsburg Press is for everyone. Not only does it teach you everything there is to know about eggs (and the chickens they come from), the recipes are truly outstanding. Here's my favorite protein in all forms from the basics like hard-boiled or scrambled, to entire chapters for Paleo entrees and Vegetarian entrees. There are recipes for soups, salads, sauces like mayonnaise and aioli's, and every ethnic favorite as well. Key Lime Pie. Spaghetti Carbonara. Egg Foo Yung. Smoothies. Monte Cristo's. No photos but so well written you can "see" how each recipe will turn out. My new favorite cookbook! It's wonderful how versatile and universal is the egg. Whether you are just beginning to cook, or have years of experience, this cookbook is a new classic! And now it's on my Kindle!

I received The Egg Cookbook: The Creative Farm-to-Table Guide to Cooking Fresh Eggs free for review, and was surprised to learn about the endless variety of eggs being sold, as well as the differences in the breeds of chickens. For those interested in raising their own chickens, chapter one contains detailed information about the entire process.

Also, the reader is educated on some interesting facts about how eggs for sale are labeled. Discovering the difference between "cage-free" and "free-range," among other common labels, will open the eyes of many consumers.
The last twelve chapters are where the reader will find an array of recipes--from breakfast eggs to Paleo-inspired egg dishes. However there are no color photos to accompany the entrees.

The Egg Cookbook: The Creative Farm-to-Table Guide to Cooking Fresh Eggs is for anyone who enjoys cooking with, or consuming eggs--a definite must-add to the cookbook collection.

A handy cookbook in which all the recipes contain eggs. A range of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes ranging from hot and sour soup through to Farmhouse Baked Eggs and lemon creme brulee. A good buy if looking for nourishing cheap and cheerful recipes. I am pleased with my purchase and would buy again.
