I use a fairly high end system with 24 channels of conversion in my studio. I needed something to do some remote overdubs on a project. For the $90 I paid, I think this is a great value. It was much heavier and sturdier feeling than I expected. The knobs are a little flimsy feeling, but for the price I am not complaining.

Installation was very easy. I didn't install Cubase LE, since I already have the full version. I found the features on this unit very easy to use and understand. Good job Tascam. (btw, I am running XP SP3 on a 6 year old laptop.)

I still may use an outboard preamp with this since I have the option to do so, but I think the preamps are fine.

I like that it is bus powered... meaning it does not require a power supply.

You get a lot for your money with this unit: Two preamps with phantom power. A direct input for bass or guitar. Two channels of conversion up 96khz. A headphone amp. Cubase LE recording software.

Now I am starting to look at Tascam's units with more inputs. Check out the US-1800. At $199, I don't think anyone else out there is offering this much. Wow!

Received in what I thought was working order. Use with Ableton Live, use 1 line in, MIDI in, and headphones/line out. Randomly in the middle of sessions, the box would start emitting noise that "pulsated" with the beat of the music and continued steadily after turning off playback. This originally occurred anywhere from once every few days to several seconds into plugging it in. Required usb unplug/plug back in, after which it was more prone to faulting again. Problem has gotten worse and I hope to see how good the warranty is shortly.

Like several of the other reviewers I experineced tons of white noise and popping. I had hoped it was only the interface but the noise is embedded on the tracks I recorded. Unless you are a novice experimenting with recording for the first time, this is not the interface for you. There are not enough controls for what you need to do. There are no independent knobs for Main outputs and Headphone outputs. The main outputs are RCA jacks not 1/4". I bought this because it was cheap, but I immediately sent it back for the Akai 4 channel interface. Double the price 0f this heap, but worth every penny.

I was a bit nervous about this item because I had read many negative reviews about the item on various music/recording related websites.

Before purchase, make sure that your computer OS is compatable with the US-122MKii.

I am using it with my Windows 7 mini laptop using the drivers downloaded from Tascam's website.

Interface has worked flawlessly for me. I mainly use it to rough out songs I write with several guitar tracks and vocals and I have not had any issues at all. Latency has not been a problem and with the drivers supplied by Tascam I am able to adjust the latency for sound quality. I keep mine on medium latency and have not noticed any issues.

I use Cool Edit Pro with this unit because that is the program I am most comfortable with and has everything that I need to make decent sounding demos.

I have not used the MIDI or phantom power so I cannot comment on these features.

Things I like about this unit:
-No noticeable latency recording 8 tracks at a time through USB 2.0
-USB powered so I can take this unit with my laptop on the road
-Aluminum case seems rather sturdy and does not rock on a tabletop with various cables running in and out of it
-XLR and 1/4 inputs seem well constructed
-No noticeable noise from the product
-Product seems to have decent preamps

Somethings I don't like about this unit:
-The knobs as others have pointed out are rather flimsy
-No balanced line in with XLR. When I record guitar through an amp I have to use two mics to get both left and right channels. I could use one and use my DAW to splice it into both channels

All in all a great purchase for my applications and 80$ is the best deal going for these. Get yourself a couple decent cables and a couple decent mics and you will be up and running but please check compatibility with your computer before buying.

--UPDATE JULY 20 2013--

After using this product quite a bit after a few months a few issues have come up:
1. In Cooleditpro I would get a terrible cyclic noise coming from the unit which sometimes ended up in the track I was recording and I could hear it through my headphones. I found that simply unplugging the unit and plugging it back in generally fixes this issue.
2. In Cooleditpro after laying down about 6-9 tracks I would get a little bit of latency. I tried ASIO4ALL, moving to a faster computer, lots of things. Eventually I bought Cubase5 from a buddy and I have not had any issues with latency. Cubase and most other higher then programs have better audio device and latency controls than the older multi-track software I usually use.
3. I wish that the input level and the headphone level had separate controls. This unit only has one knob to balance the level between the computer output and the unit output. Workable but not optimal.
4. I have used this with computers with Windows XP and Windows 7 with no issues. Drivers worked fine for me.

All things considered I think I got my money's worth out of this unit however I like to buy something once and something of quality. If you are looking to getting into digital recording on the cheap and can work around a few issue this is not the worst you can do but for more money you can do better.

I can forsee myself purchasing a higher end digital interface in the future.

I got this interface per recommendation of a friend. It worked really well on both my Mac and Windows 7 machine, but after a year of use, I started to get an odd buzzing noise coming from it through the speakers. I isolated the problem to be coming from the interface itself, so it wasn't the speakers or the inputs making that noise. The noise was intermittent, and started to become more and more frequent. Conveniently enough, this problem started to rise after the warranty period ended, so any service repairs on this interface would cost me more money. Tsk tsk...

High quality construction and easy to use. Excellent sound quality.

I was able to go from un-boxing to recording in about an hour. I'm on an Intel powered iMac with Snow Leopard using Garage Band for my audio. I did need to install that drivers which are included, and I'm fairly sure OSX updated them automatically. Either way, the unit was quickly identifiable in garage band. I found online forums for my questions, as the included literature is weak.

By the end of my first session, I was able to run a line in directly from my POD 2.0 and set up a second line in with a condenser mic picking up the live sound from the amp (the phantom power works great) and record two tracks at once and mix them down in garage band. The end result was a very high quality home recording that would be more than adequate for a demo or even a first album for an aspiring band as a sound board out could be run directly into this unit with ease.
