Bought this after the 500gph made my duckweed fly around my tank. The 200gph is so much better and my fish enjoy it the same. After installing this it created a horrible noise off and on, but it was due to small floater roots sucked in the intake. It creates a strong sucking force behind the motor so beware. I was forced to move areas around to accommodate the fan.

I bought two of these 425 GPH circulation jets for my 40 gallon saltwater cube tank. I found it easy to install the plastic suction cups to the plastic ball on the unit by first placing the suction cup on the tile floor, and then wetting the cup opening and plastic ball with a small amount of saliva (yes gross but it works), and then firmly pushing the ball straight into the plastic suction cup socket. Once in the tank, I placed one unit in the front right side, and the other unit in the back left side to create a clockwise flow. They are placed mid depth, and angled towards the glass. These locations works great for both fish and coral. I also did not press the suction cups on the glass to hold the units in a static location, as the magnets are strong enough to hold the units from the outside of the tank without pushing the suction cup onto the inside of the tank wall. This allows me to move the jets time to time to create varying flows for the fish and corals.

One thing to note is that these units, like any motors inside your tank, will add additional heat load to your water. I have a small fan blowing across the top of my tank set on a temperature switch, which increases the evaporation rate and quickly cools the water when the temperature rises above my limits. The fan was 1/20 the cost of any decent chiller unit, much quieter, uses minimal energy and allowed me to use the saved money to buy an ATO to keep the salinity at a constant level, and keep the tank topped off with the additional evaporation load.

In summary, the engineering is sound on this circulation jet, and the price is fair. Just be careful installing the suction cup to the plastic ball pivot...

I have a 29g Biocube and I think I've finally settled on this pump to accompany the return pump in the tank. The return by itself does not move enough water around, but with this one added into the setup it seems to keep most of my corals happy. I've had this pump installed for about two months and everything has been going good so far.

There are a couple great things about these Hydor Koralia pumps, most notably the price and also the magnets used to attach the pump to your tank wall. It's simple, clean, and easy to move or remove for cleaning. In addition, the pump is very quiet and can barely be heard when running. The only suggestion I would have for this unit is to disperse the water out a bit more as it seems to be pretty directed.

Pros:
+ Lower price than competitors
+ VERY quiet when in operation
+ Magnet attachment system

Cons:
- Concentrated flow where pump is directed, seems like lower GPH as a result

Overall this pump gets the job done and is a good bargain for your money. However, when purchasing a Hydor Koralia pump, be sure to get a larger pump than what you THINK you need, simply because the concentrated flow seems to result in a slightly lower GPH than advertised.

This seems to work great. Compact and gets the water flowing in my 40 gallon tank. The sand in my tank stays much cleaner and the filter is more effective because of the current. Takes a little while to figure out just how to position it to get debris to end up near the filter pickup. My rainbows seem to like playing in the current as well, chasing each other around.

Only complaint is it is difficult to assemble the ball joint that connects the circulator to the magnetic base. It's a tight fit and I nearly broke the plastic, it is definitely fatigued so I need to be careful with it. Some sort of lubricant would have been helpful but I'm not sure what I could have used that would be safe with the fish.. perhaps some gel from my aloe plant.. Oh well, I was impatient and got it to pop in there.

I got this at a discount because there was no box. Shipped in the bubble wrap white Amazon envelope. No instructions, it was simply in a plastic clear bag. The sticker on it is legit from the manufacturer. I followed the instructions on the video from the Amazon sales page. Too easy. I submerged it into the tank and plugged it in hoping I wasn’t about to fry all my fish since the electric cord goes into the water. Everything was fine and I have it towards the “ocean floor” of the tank to not allow old food to settle and instead get washed up and filtered. Great investment after suffering through red sludge cyano (that I cleared with Chemiclean!). I don’t want to have the cyano issue again and the awesome YouTube videos entitled “Five Minute Saltwater Guide” recommended it for this purpose also. I threw in some Microbacter 7 (look at me talk like I know what’s going on) and turned on this puppy on a “dark cycle” overnight for maintenance on the tank. I’ve left it on and it doesn’t make noise or anything. The fish seem to like rising the waves and otherwise don’t mine it. Great buy!

I've had these for a couple months now. I have two of these and the nano 240 gph version. All this for a 20 gallon tank. The nano's are super quite. I have the tank in my bedroom, so noise of the pumps is very important to me. I sleepy easily without hearing them.

Now for performance, you might think having two 425 gpg pumps plus a 240 is too much, but it's the perfect amount of flow for a 20 gallon tank. I've read some reviews where people only have 1 of these and a 240, or just the 1 itself for a 20 gallon tank. Not enough flow, too many dead spots in the tank. With my setup I ensure I have no dead-spots in the tank.

I agree with some of the previous reviews how these pumps aren't "true 425 gph" pumps. I've always personally felt that with nano pumps you give up some performance because of the small size, hence why I have two of these and a 240.

If you're looking for a nice quite pump for a tank below 30 gallons, I would highly recommend these. I gave this a 5 star rating despite it not being a true 425 gph pump because general rule of thumb you give up some power with any nano pumps.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best valued pumps out there! But make sure you understand what you need!!!
Reviewed in Canada on September 5, 2016

To start my review I would like to state that even though a power head says its for a 20G tank and you have a 20G tank, doesn't mean you can only by one power head and be like "Yay, I have flow everywhere!". You need more than one to achieve appropriate flow through your tank, especially if you are hosting corals. If hosting corals you need to have at least 30x the flow vs volume of your tank. So if you have a 20 gallon nano you would need at LEAST 600 gallons per hour of water movement.

I have seen people complain about the tank ratings post by Koralia saying they are inaccurate but I beg to differ. The ratings are there to guide you which power head provides USEFUL FLOW WITHOUT POSSIBLY UPSETTING INHABITANTS. With that said, I have had experience with all three Koralia nano power heads so I will be reviewing all three.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

All three pump generally are designed the same way. I find them very reliable and quiet but they can click when they start up so using them with a wave maker can be annoying. The magnetic mounting is probably the best feature. No more suction cup issues here! You can even slide the magnet on the external side of the glass to move or adjust the location of the pump. These magnets are STRONG so be careful not to let them slam up against your glass! Directing the power head is a little meh. The amount of tilt you get is limited and the power cord works against you and gets in the way. They all come apart the same way and are generally easy to clean. Now for the individual remarks......

First up is the Hydor Koralia Nano 240!!! This pump is pretty timid. It could be used solo in a 5 gallon. For a 10 or 15 you should consider getting 2 unless you are getting some decent water movement from another source such as a Hang-On Back Filter. Another useful feature is to simple remove that one annoying dead spot in larger tanks. They are small and can be nicely hidden from sight.

Second up is the Hydor Koralia Nano 425!! This is a sweet little pump and works great for water movement. I had three ( an example of needing more than one which came out to 1275 gallons per hour ) in a tall 25 gallon marine tank and they did a great job! From personal experience I wouldn't used these in a tank longer than 24" like a 20 gallon long ( 30" long tank ). It can't really reach far enough to the other end.

Lastly is the Hydor Koralia Nano 565!! This a new nano pump from Hydor, The pump basically looks like a 425 but with some mods to push more water. It works fabulous and if you have a 20-40 gallon tank, I would skip over the 425 and go straight to these. The extra flow is worth it, especially if your tank is of the marine type.

Overall these pumps are great. They run quiet and don't need lots of maintenance. There are fancier pumps out there for sure, but spending $50 on these versus $200 on those, these pumps are a win.
