About this item
- Constant Quality of Improvement: Recently we applied C.Q.I. to the classic Dragonfly creating a new Dragonfly 2. The Dragonfly was one of Spyderco's original lightweight knives and helped to introduce the use of FRN Handles.
- High Performance: The Dragonfly's success is largely due to its mid-size blade and Ergonomic handle that features a front-finger choil and spine cusp.
- Ergonomic: Designed as a carry: friendly folder, it comes with a left/right-hand tip-up wire clip, patented Bi-Directional Texturing on the handle, spine and choil jimping and screw-together handle construction.
- Superior Quality: The VG-10 blade has a high-performance flat-grind and is available with a PlainEdge configuration.
- Pocket-Friendly: The Dragonfly 2 Lightweight focuses around features which make it Ergonomically comfortable including positioning the Spyderco Round Hole in precise relation to the blade's pivot for the smoothest blade opening.

"...It weighs only 1.2oz, has a small-medium size blade, and good god...the pocket carry is amazing. It's small, lightweight and packs an awesome punch...." Read more
Customers are satisfied with the sharpness of the product. They mention that it is super sharp out of the package, rust-resistant, and easily sharpened. The VG-10 steel makes a great blade, and some say it's better than the ZDP-189. The light weight makes it a very nice EDC knife, especially for office use. It takes a razor edge and holds it reasonably well. The knives are well-made and are a good option for those looking for a small, solid, utilitarian knife.

"...It rides fine, a tad high, but then again I prefer a knife to absolutely disappear. What I'm really talking about here is pocket "real estate"...." Read more
Customers are mixed about the ease of opening the sporting goods. Some mention that the thumbhole opening mechanism is far easier on their fingers than a thumbscrew, and even someone mentions that it's a fast way to open the knife with one hand. The opening and closing mechanisms are ambidextrous, and the pocket clip can be reversed, so it is easy to carry on both sides. However, others say that it takes two hands to open it, and that the handle is too small to open easily with their fat arthritic fingers. The lock takes a fair amount of force to release, and when they lever the blade closed, it doesn't lock properly.
"...mechanism is a little tight out of the box, but it locks the blade open with some authority...." Read more
"...It is easy to open with one hand using the thumb hole. These are all elements that the Dragonfly 2 shares with the Sage 2...." Read more
"...Also, because the handle is so small, it makes unlocking and closing a bit tricky...." Read more
"...The thumb hole works well to flip it open, but because the knife does not have the heft of, say, the paramilitary, you will not be able to easily..." Read more
Customers are satisfied with the appearance of the pocket knife. They mention that it feels good in hand, looks good, and is extremely sharp. The pocket clip is well designed, and the dragonfly pattern is totally nice. The jimping is beautifully cut, and it creates a comfortable grip.

Customers like the clip on the sporting good. They say it's good, excellent, and a nice touch. Customers also appreciate that it can be attached to either side of the knife and that it works well. They also like that the clip can be removed or reversed for left-hand carry, and that the tip can be repositioned.

"...The clip is very clippy, maybe a bit too tight but it'll loosen up as it breaks in.Overall, very nice knife...." Read more

Usage: Have used this regularly for over 4 years (among other knives). Great for daily tasks and being out of the way.
Wear/Durability: It looks surprisingly good despite the fact it has not been babied. The wire clip (a normal wear point on solid clips), frn handle, and vg-10 blade all show virtually no wear. Function and looks are as good as new, maybe just smoother opening action.
Size and weight: So light and small you'll forget you are carrying it clipped or free in your pocket. As opposed to other knives, this is one I feel free to throw in my pocket with keys. Forget it is there until I need it. You have to decide if this is big enough for your personal needs, but for the size I would say it is hard to beat. If you have notions of heroism, you probably want to size up. The size is also non-threatening to others, if that is something you run into.
Blade: The edge has held up well. No difficulty sharpening on the sharpmaker or strop. The profile, like other spydercos slices nicely, which is a lot of the daily use case for most people. Sides show very little wear, some tiny scratches with a flashlight and a hard eye (could polish them out if I cared).
Plastic handle?: Never had any issues or felt like it would flex too much or fail. Nice grip. Doesn't feel cheap to me, some might be bothered. Wasn't sure I liked it at first, but I'm a fan now, in this size knife at least.
Grip: For the size it is suprising how full/secure of a grip you can get thanks to the finger grooves and jimping on the back of the blade. Compared to the delica I only have half a pinky less on the handle (delica fills the hand more though). The finger grooves also protect you from sliding toward the blade. The scales are grippy.
Opening: Some have complaints about one handed opening. Do it all the time, don't get it. Closing one handed is not an issue either (though it is a two step move like any lock back). Maybe it just fits my hand well? Maybe back off on the tension screw?
Looks: Personal preference, but I think it looks great. The best looks of the spyderco frn/polymer handle lineup imo. Some other frn knives look weird to me (even though I own and like them).
Value: I just feel like it is overpriced, there are a lot of good budget knives out there. Yes the steel is nice, yes I have praised it highly, but practically/functionally you can get a knife in this smaller size range for half the price, and this knife is not twice as good. That said, i like this knife more, and I've easily gotten more value and use out of this per dollar than some other knives I own. I guess I'd say this, I wouldn't mind keeping another dragonfly around or a different blade steel, but price is just enough for me to hesitate (but if I did lose this one i would immediately replace it).
Nothing against Kershaw; they're excellent, but I'm happier with this.
First, the weight: at about one and a half ounces, the Dragonfly is about a whole ounce less than the Kershaw. That only matters to me because I don't *need* a big heavy knife, and I spend most of my time in either lightweight shorts or sweat-pants, and even light things drag those down hanging from the pocket.
The two-inch blade and light-duty construction are more than adequate for my uses, and it is SHARP! Easy to touch up when needed, also; the VG-10 steel is a good choice. I say 'light-duty construction' because of the lack of metal in the handle, but it's still made strong enough for its uses; no looseness in the blade pivot or lock, everything tight and crisp.
The ergonomics of the handle are a sheer delight. It doesn't fill your palm, but your fingers wrap around it so naturally that it's very secure and controlled in your hand, without having to squeeze it. All four fingers engage, too; your pinkie isn't left floating.
My only problem was in getting used to opening it; the handle IS great for holding it, but is a little small for gracefully opening it one-handed.
The wire pocket clip may look flimsy, but don't let it fool you; it's strong, and the aggressive texture on the handles works with the clip to keep it secure. Clip this to your pocket, and it's *staying* there, period. The clip can be removed or reversed for left-hand carry.
I'd happily recommend this to anyone who just needs a small, lightweight pocketknife: secure in the pocket, secure in the hand, and it's the *sharpest* pocketknife I've ever bought.

Spyderco Dragonfly 2 Salt Lightweight Rustproof Spyder Edge Knife - Yellow
I bought this second one because I think for me this non-serrated version will work better for most uses.
See that review for the full details, but in short:
- Amazing 34g weight!
- Opens with one hand.
- Can be converted to a UK legal (non-locking, under 3 inches) knife with an excellent finger choil (round cutout under the blade) which is much safer than most other non-locking knives.
- Razor sharp from the factory and the VG-10 steel holds its edge beautifully.
- Comfortable to use.
If you want something "stylish" then this plain edge version is better looking, with a beautiful flat grind (edge shape) and the Spyderco logo instead of the H1 logo. Not very visible in my photo, as it was taken on my phone.
I did switch the handle colours, because the yellow goes well with the less aggressive looking plain edge version, so I'll have that as my non-locking one for use outdoors.
The black handle and serrated edge both look slightly more threatening, even on such a small knife, so I'll keep that combo as a locking knife for indoor use.
You can purchase this VG-10 steel version with an orange handle but I don't like that tone of orange, too bright, almost neon looking. If you want to add some colour, you can get Sugru rubber in many different colours, it will likely fit nicely into the pattern on the handle. For example, black handle with apple-green sugru could look nice and unique.
Mine was about £60 here on Amazon, but check around, prices vary. On Heinnie I saw the serrated VG-10 black one for about £50 and serrated H1 yellow for about £53.
I hope this is helpful.
