Very good, but LTT licensed version is better for most users.
4 Stars
Very good, but LTT licensed version is better for most users.
Ratchet: Smoother, quieter, but more backforce than LTT, clicks much louder in reverse than in forward. Near zero perceptible wobble, very little backlash in locked position, possibly less than LTT but they're very closeSelector ring: Silent (LTT has loud click) but very difficult to rotate unless you grip with both hands. Not a one-handed tool, but probably won't accidentally switch, I strongly prefer feel (and direction inversion)Socket: Magnet very slightly weaker than LTT, but deeper socket for better stability.Shaft: lacks knurling, but accepts a silicone bit holder ring unlike LTT driver which struggles due to narrowing shaft (which really helps with speed screwing).Handle: Round, rolls off the table, TPE Overmolding not as grippy or durable as LTT driver's shape. Size is fine for my larger hands, but LTT driver has a better handle.Storage: Easier than LTT to grip to open, harder to pull open, holds normal size bits.I'm an enthusiast, and pictured are some of my preferred drivers, with my Matco and cheaper store brand drivers absent as I seldom use them. Megapro nailed the smooth feel of a premium mechanics driver, but doesn't match the ease of use of a lighter duty driver like the LTT does. I would swap it in for my less precise Vessel ratcheting driver as my work carry but it'stoo bulky. Megapro makes the cut as one of the good ones, if only just, but spring for the LTT if you can afford to.

Surprised there's no review for this product yet, so I'll jump in. Beware, I type a lot, so hang on if you can.

There are many brands out there for ratcheting screwdrivers, including Snap-On, Matco, Crafstman, Wera, Stanley, Dewalt, Kobalt (by Lowe's), Husky (by Home Depot), Bahco, Megapro, etc:

1) Tool junkies and professional tool wielders swear by Snap-On and Matco, but as a more casual DIY'er, I couldn't justify $80-$100 for a screwdriver.

2) Husky, Stanley and some of the Dewalt models didn't have the quality feel or engineering I was seeking (looser shafts and ratchets, weaker magnets), though they're adequate at their price point.

3) The Kobalt double-drive was intriguing, but ultimately I didn't trust the ability of the driver to handle higher torque.

4) I bought the red-handled Craftsman model for $20, and it was very good except for a few issues. The shaft magnet doesn't pick up screws through the bits, the bit storage in the handle is difficult to rotate and use, and the driver felt too heavy in my hand. The ratchet mechanism and selection knob are solid and tight, and the driver body / handle is made of a VERY sturdy plastic - it's a nice deal for $20, but I wanted a stronger magnet and better bit storage.

There are several brands in the $25 - $45 price range - Bahco, Wera, Megapro, JH Williams, etc. I haven't used the other brands, but they all have good reviews. I decided on the Megapro for several reasons:

1) The magnetic pickup in the driver is marketed as 'strong', and I can confirm that it does pick up screws through the bit. Yes, I could get a magnetizer to temporarily magnetize shafts, or just dip bit tips in some oil or grease to get the screw to stick on, but why do either if I can get the screw pick-up in the driver itself?

2) Manufacturers usually don't list the tooth count for ratcheting drivers (more common for socket ratchets), but Megapro labels this as a 28-tooth ratcheting mechanism. It's one of the higher tooth counts I've experienced for a driver, and the ratchet feels very smooth and fine. A higher tooth count means you don't need to rotate the driver in reverse as much to get the screw to turn. This is more helpful with socket ratchets, as a higher tooth count means you need less swing clearance to tighten bolts. For drivers, you could argue it saves some wear and tear on your hand.

3) The bit storage rack in the handle is one of the best mechanisms I've seen on a driver. It's held in place magnetically, and has slots for 12 bits. The rack slots fits the bits tightly, though they are plastic, so they may end up wearing / snapping in the long run (however the plastic is reasonably strong / thick). For now though, there's no danger of the bits getting loose when they are snapped in the slots. The slots keep the bits organized, instead of a canister that stores bits loose (loose bits means a noisy handle and you have to dump all bits out to find the right one). The use of the magnet to keep the rack closed is clever - it's strong enough to keep the canister locked into the handle, but weak enough to make it easy to open the canister when necessary. There are also two slight finger grooves on opposite sides of the handle end, right above the cap of the rack, to make it easier to pull out the storage cap. Definitely an example of the attention to detail by Megapro. Side note: the cap of the canister rotates freely, letting you apply blister-free force with your palm while rotating the driver.

4) The bit storage can store 12 bits in the handle - this is more than most brands.

5) The shaft is thinner than some of the other brands. Both of the Wera models have thicker bit holders - one is a rapid adapter that can also be used in power drills, and the other has a thicker holder extension at the end of the shaft. The Bahco model also has a thicker holder at the end. I wanted a thinner shaft (that's what she... didn't... say? sorry couldn't resist :P) so I could fit the driver into tighter spaces.

6) There is another similar Megapro model, 211R2C36RD. However, that model uses non-standard bits - longer double-ended bits with a spring-ball retention mechanism. Ball retention means that driver probably doesn't have magnetic pickup either. I wanted a model that uses standard 1-inch insert bits, so I could expand my bit collection in the future.

A minor complaint I have is that the shaft is slightly loose, but that's a tiny nitpick for a product this good. I can't speak for reliability (just got the driver), but from an overall design and presentation perspective, I'm extremely satisfied. The driver handle is sturdy and the ratchet is smooth and fine. The 3-way ratchet selection knob is solid and tight. The whole screwdriver feels lightweight yet solid in my hand, and the ergonomics and grip are excellent too. I feel like I can put torque on this thing and it will hold up. For those of you who wonder about such things, the Megapro drivers are made in the U.S. and Canada, and the bits are made in Taiwan. Megapro offers a limited lifetime warranty (covers manufacturing defects, not normal wear and tear or driver bits).

I recommend using Google and YouTube to search for reviews / descriptions of this product - some of the demo videos online were very helpful. For ~$30 - $35, this is a great value for those who want or need the quality engineering exhibited by this product. Bravo, Megapro, bravo.

This is a fantastic ratcheting screwdriver. I have used it every day for a couple weeks as an electrician and am impressed with the quality. The ratcheting mechanism is smooth and requires very little resistance to ratchet which was the most important factor for me. The bit holder works great and allows me to switch bits quickly because they don't need to be dumped out to find the desired bit. I have not tried to pry on anything since I have a designated "beater" flat-head for that purpose but i suspect it could handle some light duty prying. The shaft to handle joint has some minimal wiggle/deflection but it is not noticeable at all during use and still feels sturdy. The magnet is reasonably strong and useful. The handle itself is pretty comfortable in my hand and though slightly bigger than my other screwdrivers still allows for good maneuverability. The direction selector is a little difficult to use one handed in tight/odd work spaces but still manageable and has not jumped positions unintentionally on me yet.

Overall this is is a superb product and is now my go-to screwdriver. It replaced my Klein 10-in-1 in that regard. If you are going to buy a mega-pro ratcheting screwdriver I highly recommend getting this version because it uses any standard 1" bit and is magnetized.

As a disclaimer I have not done a hands on comparison to other popular ratcheting screwdrivers such as the Wera or snap-on but I did handle, briefly in the store, the Klein and Milwaukee versions and passed on those without a second thought as the ratcheting mechanisms were not very refined. I did buy a kobalt double drive simply because it was $5 and I didn't like it after 5 mins of use (cumby ratchet, tons of deflection, cheap feel, and ect ect). It ended up in the junk drawer and will be given away eventually.

I took a chance on this mega-pro driver and am very glad I did. It is everything I was looking for and more.

I have purchased a couple of cheaper screwdrivers over the years but none of them have been good. They felt cheap, the ergonomics were awkward, and they haven't lasted long. But I'm glad to say that this might be the last ratcheting screwdriver I buy. It exudes quality - the ratcheting mechanism is smooth with lots of points of contact. The rotating switch that changes the direction is easy to access while remaining out of the way when you're turning. And the tool storage opens and closes with a satisfying snap. Overall I'm very happy with this purchase.

Anything from the gage of paws to the ergonomics of the handle. This is the tool to have. I have tried many in the past and finally found the right tool for many jobs. Yes you can goto b&q (similar to home depot) but nothing will compare to this. Try it out and you will see. All of my colleagues laughed when I said I was ordering this from Canada. When it arrived everyone has now ordered one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely the Best Screwdriver I’ve Ever Used
Reviewed in Canada on June 5, 2017
Style: Racheting Automotive Mulit-Bit SetVerified Purchase
After my last ratcheting screwdriver broke and I gave away a pretty good Stanley screwdriver to my brother, I decided to invest in a ratcheting screwdriver that will last me a lifetime.

After doing some researching, I narrowed it down to the Snap-On SSDMR4B, Megapro Automotive 211R1C36RD, and JH Williams WRS-1. The reviews sounded great for all three, but I liked the innovative bit storage and the more competitive price on the Megapro so that's what I ended up going with.

After using it for a couple weeks, I can say that this screwdriver is hands down fantastic! The ratcheting action is very clicky and strong, allowing me to driver screws quickly. It’s got a large gripped handle that I find very comfortable. The shaft is long and has a thin profile so it’s great for getting into deep screw pockets. Fantastic screwdriver for working on vehicles, desktop computers or assembling furniture/cabinets.

The magnetic bit storage is very well designed, and the rotating 6-shooter carousel keeps 12 bits securely organized. I like how this driver fits any standard 1" by 1/4" hex size bits in the storage. The magnetic tip on the driver secures the bits and screws which is perfect for driving in hard to reach screws in electronics or vehicles.

Honestly, this screwdriver is the best I’ve ever used. It makes driver or removing screws incredibly easy and the included bits haven’t slipped once.

With that said I’ll outline the Pros and Cons from my perspective.

::::: Pros :::::
- Excellent ratcheting action
- Magnetic tip for securing screws
- Unique bit storage in hidden carousel
- Durable construction
- Comfortable to grip
- Long, thin shaft
- Lifetime warranty
- Made in Canada!
- Accepts standard 1” long by ¼” hex bits

::::: Cons :::::
- 6 of 12 bits included are Torx, I would’ve preferred more Robertson/square bits or Phillips for my uses
- No knurling on the shaft like the Snap-On model, a minor detail but still would've been nice to have

This screwdriver is just plain amazing. I'm going to get these as gifts for everyone I know. The Automotive model is extremely flexible and fits bits from DeWalt, Bosch, Milwaukee and other manufacturers - but you could get the regular ratcheting model from Megapro that accepts their double ended bits for a bit less money. I personally wanted the 1" by 1/4" standard hex bits so I could swap in some Robertson/square bits for the torx bits.

Screwdrivers are a necessary tool for any home, but it makes tasks easier to complete with a high quality screwdriver. Do yourself a favour and buy one of these. It should last nearly a lifetime and you will not regret it! Makes a great gift for a new home owner, mechanics, or tech enthusiast.

::::: Pros :::::
- Excellent ratcheting action
- Magnetic tip for securing screws
- Unique bit storage in hidden carousel
- Durable construction
- Comfortable to grip
- Long, thin shaft
- Lifetime warranty
- Made in Canada!
- Accepts standard 1” long by ¼” hex bits

::::: Cons :::::

5.0 out of 5 stars It's a Megapro. Enough said.

Megapro (and Picquic) stand head and shoulders above the rest of multi-bit screwdriver manufacturers, and this model is no exception. The stout, solid handle feels reassuring to use. The bit selection system has no wiggle or rattle that causes annoyance during use and is built to withstand many many drops. The ratcheting system has very little backlash and the non-ratcheting setting is very tight with little play.

This is my favorite Megapro (and one of my favorite screwdrivers) as it uses standard 1" insert bits. The tapered handle is also my favorite.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible Screwdriver! (Automotive Ratcheting Model)

This review is for the Automotive-R model.

I had used a Stanley ratcheting screwdriver for years and the bit storage on it annoyed the heck out of me. But it was what I had and didn't think otherwise. Then I misplaced it and looked around for a quality screwdriver. Folks recommended the Linus Tech Tips (LTT) screwdriver, but the price and shipping wasn't what I was looking for. Some quick Googling lead me to the Megapro Automotive-R as an alternative.

This is an incredible screwdriver-- the 28 tooth ratchet is like butter compared to my old Stanley, the bit storage is a feature so convenient that I won't ever do without again. You can swap out for any standard 1/4" bits if the initial load out aren't bits you use and I've found the magnet quite effective. I haven't had any large drops, so I can't speak to durability, but it feels fairly solid.

My only complaint is the screwdriver a little long for tight spaces and there's no shorter handled model from Megapro.

Overall, I HIGHLY recommend the Automotive Ratcheting screwdriver from Megapro. I lost it today, I would buy the same one in a second.
